Fell View enjoys a beautiful location in the quiet hamlet of Cotterdale, which nestles between rolling fells and lies at the end of a single track lane 10 minutes from the market town of Hawes. Over the lane, the cottage is fronted by a trickling stream, and has mature private gardens. Fell View is great for nature lovers, including many bird types and rare red squirrels; great for cyclists and walkers, being about two miles from the Buttertubs Pass on the route of the Tour de France, and the Pennine Way. Inside Fell View we have kept many of its its original features, including beamed ceilings in most rooms. It has been beautifully furnished recently with period furnishings and modern appliances. Fell View is great for families and offers a separate 'snug' with a TV/XBox where the kids (or even the adults!) can escape. We offer a warm welcome, with a hamper of Yorkshire goodies on arrival, china tea service, luxury toiletries, and a fluffy toy lamb for the younger ones. There are many local attractions close by including the Wensleydale Creamery, famous for its cheeses, the Dales Countryside Museum, and Hardraw Force, England's highest single drop waterfall. Fell View is also conveniently located for the southern Lake District, being about one hour's drive away.
Debbie and Andrew Walker and their two daughters have owned Fell View since 2010. They live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. They purchased Fell View as a weekend retreat, and now they would like to share it with guests.
Debbie is a voluntary part-time teaching assistant at the local church primary school and Andrew is a partner in a global firm of chartered accountants.
Debra Walker purchased this cottage in 2010
Fell View lies in a quiet hamlet surrounded by rolling fells and is a peaceful retreat away from busy day to day life.
Rest relaxation, great base for walking, cycling nature spotting and touring the Yorkshire Dales and the southern Lake District.
Fell View is new to holiday rentals in July 2014 so we hope to have guest comments soon!
Cotterdale is a tranquil spot at the end of the road and the house was blissfully quiet with just the sound of the stream running outside and an owl across the field. It's a hamlet rather than a village and close to Hawes, Hadraw Falls and many fine walks, we even made it to the Lakes one day which is only an hour and a quarter away. The house is tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard with a wood burning stove in the living room, a well equipped kitchen, and a smart bathroom upstairs with a shower room off the laundry/utility area. An upstairs sitting room gave the children some space and the house was technologically up to date with freesat TVs and a games console upstairs. Overall, we couldn't fault it and found it very comfortable and relaxing - nice enough so that spending a rainy day indoors was no hardship. The hamper of local delicacies was a very thoughtful touch as was the good supply of maps and walking guides.
A place in the middle of nowhere. A supurb nature. All the different kinds of birds, mammals and on top the brilliant surroudings! Last but not least an excellent place to stay: for those who want to cook: a Aga at your disposal, gas on top, electricity for the ovens. Quite rooms, only about 12 to 15 houses in the neighbourhood. A small "river" curling down the valley indeed completes the picture. Debbie, thanks for the opportunity to stay with you. Family Alliet, Flanders, Belgium.
A beautiful cottage in wonderful peaceful surroundings. Great base for many walks, friendly pubs and tea shops. Wildlife amazing with red squirrels in the garden. Trips to Malham Cove, Aysgarth falls and Grassington a must. Also only an hour away is Lake Windermere. Thank you Debbie for the amazing welcome hamper and the lamb for my grandson. Highly recommend this cottage and we shall return.
Fell View and Cotterdale are a small slice of heaven on earth. What could be better than exploring during the day and coming back each evening to a beautiful house in a beautiful hamlet. Surrounded by stunning scenery and wildlife (including baby bunnies eating the garden plants) we really didn't want to leave and could happily have stayed an extra week. Thank you Debbie for the warm welcome and the goodies in the welcome hamper!
A beautiful, comfortable and well appointed cottage in a superb location, an ideal spot to explore everything the area has to offer, from great walks, friendly pubs, Bolton Castle, the Wensleydale Creamery and an abundance of wildlife. Thank you Debbie for the excellent welcome pack and for a memorable holiday. We can't wait for our next visit!
I can reiterate all that's been said before, this place is Special!
Inside, all the fittings, fixtures decorations, furnishings are quality. The whole house is impeccably clean, is spacious and instantly provides a homely feel!
Outside, replicates the inside with a beautifully manicured garden just large enough to kick a football in (bonus)! We didn't use the wood burner inside but we did use the BBQ and outdoor furniture. This cottage catered for everything we needed.
There's so much to see around this area (waterfalls, caves, castles, cheese, more waterfalls) and the scenery is stunning but to walk out the front door, past the sheep, around the cows, under the red squirrels, over the stream and straight on to the dales and up the hills was a pleasure, even my 12yr and 4yr old boys loved that and walked so much more than i could have imagined!!
