We are a family of 5 with 3 daughters. We have always holidayed in the Lakes and Cornwall introducing our girls to the sea, surfing, lakes and Beatrix Potter!
Judy Staples purchased this house in 2014
We have recently been lucky enough to buy Ford House after it came back unexpectedly on the market. It was already perfectly set up as a luxury holiday home catering for large groups with unique charm and features.
As a family we often visit the Lake District and both my husband and I were brought up holidaying here as children.I particularly spent a lot of time in Grange over Sands with a day trip to Cartmel as an annual treat. The Lakes have a magical quality for me and I always feel I've escaped when there.
Cartmel has so much more to offer these days and is a stepping stone to the many lakes and fells.
Ford House is right in the heart of the village, in The Square. We have immediate access to many eateries or a variety of artisan shops for a meal at home. To be so close to the racecourse is exciting on those meet days and you can take picturesque walks without getting in the car. All the bedrooms are attractive and spacious and no one feels they have second best. The garden is a lovely sun trap and the sitting room a cosy haven.
A group of 8 of us came to stay for my husbands 40th weekend as we were off to L'enclume... we couldn't have asked for a better house. Right in the middle of beautiful Cartmel (like a village out of a Richard Curtis film) stands the house - situated between 2 old country pubs (both with log fires) and almost opposite the Cartmel Village Shop (home to the sticky toffee pudding no less).
Organising the rental with Judy was super easy and she sent us everything we needed to know well in advance.
Directions to the cottage were great - parking a slight issue right in the center but again (as Judy's notes say) we found spots just outside - plus a lovely walk to and from.
The house had everything we could need - it was super cosy, especially when we had the log fire on in the evening sat round with a glass of wine & eating cheese (excellent cheese shop just round the corner).
All bedrooms as advertised - VERY comfy beds and good quality white linen. The whole house was very clean.
Kitchen was fantastic with very nice appliances.
Would very much recommend L'enclume (just round the corner) for a real TREAT of a meal / experience - but also Rogan & Co - was fantastic too!
Buy your provisions from the spar shop on the outskirts of the village (inc stocking up on plenty of fire wood) - then for more yummy bits - the Cartmel Village Shop in the square (I bought 5 different puddings as presents too).
All in all - perfect weekend. Really hope we manage to get up to Cartmel again.
I will never tire of telling people what an amazing time we had in this house, everything was fantastic, the owner replied to emails straight away, the house is so comfortable with everything you need, superb property in a lovely village.
We were very lucky to be invited to celebrate the in-laws Ruby wedding with rest of our family including two grandchildren and two dogs . The location was superb and the house delightful catering for 10 adults with ample space for us all . We loved to be able to walk around the village so easily having babies and yet the surrounding area meant we could explore further too.
Having decided to have a girls weekend away to celebrate my 50th birthday the search was on for the perfect venue and we found it. Although I know the Lakes quite well I didn't know Cartmel and what a fab place it is. Lovely shops to wander in, particularly the wine shop where we spent some time tasting and buying having been offered great advice on all manner of beverages. There are lots of places to eat in the village but we had decided to eat in at Ford House. The house is very welcoming with a lovely open fire and is very well equipped, all the ladies were very impressed to find Emma Bridgewater mugs in the kitchen. There is nothing else to say other than the house had everything and exceeded expectations. I imagine that we will be back at some stage and I hope I don't have to wait until my 60th!!
We had a fabulous stay at Ford House, its is beautiful and had everything you could possible need, great open fire, beautiful lounge and dining room. The bedrooms were lovely and the bed very comfy. What a great little village, would highly recommend this house, we will definitely be returning.
What a fabulous, comfortable and well equipped house. We love Cartmel and so the perfect place to spend my 50th birthday was in the village. Ford House was everything and more than we could have wished for.
