Dirty unkempt dont stay
On arrival after a 24hr journey we were greeted by a dirty smelly property I had to spend the first hour cleaning the kitchen so I could make a drink and something to eat and not even a pint of milk left to start us off . I them had to air the rooms we were going to use as these were damp and musty which within hours resulted in me having an asthma attack and subsequently wheezing all week . The place was so rotted in the bathroom and kitchen that you almost fell through the floor and without the use of a conveniently placed duck board in the bathroom I believe that is exactly what would happen. Our dogs had to be tied up o a short leash when outside after meals as the garden was so overgrown we would never have found their poop to clean it up but regardless of this and the fact that we cleaned up thoroughly after our pets the owner still kept our damages deposit claiming we had done no such thing and that his gardeners refused to clean it up if that place has seen gardeners in the last year I will be amazed. On a completely separate note to the cottage he also basically called us bad dog owners as one dog slipped his lead and went into an adjacent field for about 10 minutes which we profusely apologised for to the man who complained very aggressively regardless that the sheep in said field were not even his
Very clean and comfortable with plenty of space. Well equipped, but some user guides to facilities (eg microwave, washing machine etc would be useful - but perhaps I didn’t find them). Personally I would have liked to see a few books and couple games (scrabble always good) available as well. Quietly situated the property is about 4 1/2 miles from the main road with easy access to all the wonderful sights the island has to offer. Bus to Stornaway can be caught at end of the drive.
Great area in back of beyond. Friendly housekeeper.
Lovely spacious cottage. All mod cons - tho no diswasher. Extremely comfortable beds. Everything very clean. We sat in the sun on garden chairs and heard a cuckoo blacbirds and finches . Sheep came to see us and a neghbours cat.
It was idyllic.
Cozy cottage in unique setting
For our first trip to Lewis and Harris we chose this well organized cottage 20 minutes south of Stornoway. The house is comfortable with plenty of space and everything you need in a self-catering vacation home. We especially enjoyed the location and surrounding topography. The house is located in a small, rural community in the transition zone from the rolling landscape of Lewis to the rocky, mountainous landscape of Harris. Single track roads around the house either go uphill or down, with appealing large outcrops of the gneiss rock common to that area. The house faces a long distance view over the landscape, and sheep on nearby rocky pastures. The back of the house is nestled into a large hill covered with bracken fern. A walk on either of the roads meeting near the house takes you to a bit of ocean, with nice views of the ocean from the top of one and a small beach from the other. An unexpected benefit of the location is the ease of traveling to featured island locations. Port of Ness on the northern tip is a one hour drive. The Callanish standing stones and Black House on the west coast of Lewis are about 30 minutes away. And the beautiful beaches of Harris are about one hour by car.
Gorgeous property in superb rural location
Writing this review while still staying at the property as I am so impressed with it.
The property and its location are superb and the photos really do not do justice to the property which is kitted out with the best of quality mod cons.
I cannot recommend it highly enough !!.
The owner and his family are super helpful and ensure you will have no issues during your stay.
Only one problem now though, We don't want to leave!!!
