Cottage in Louth, Lincolnshire, England - Peaceful Location within 5 Minutes Walk of Town Centre. Numerous country walks from Cottage.

Spireview Cottage (sleeping up to 4 people in two bedrooms) has been recently renovated. Featuring a spiral staircase and stunning views of St. James' Church. It has a living room with a log-burning stove; newly fitted bespoke kitchen; utility room; downstairs toilet; main double bedroom; smaller second bedroom; a beautiful bathroom with corner bath and shower unit; a private garden; off street parking for two cars. The cottage is only three minutes walk to Spout Yard Park, four minutes walk to Louth Museum, and five minutes walk to the centre of the charming market town of Louth with its three screen cinema, many restaurants, pubs, independent shops, and thrice weekly markets. Riverhead Theatre is a little further (perhaps 20 mins walk); as is Hubbards Hills (one of the treasures of Louth). The Meridian Centre (with superb facilities including a large swimming pool; children's fun pool; gym; badminton; table tennis etc) is only 1.5 miles away. The cottage also provides an excellent base to explore the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds and sandy beaches on the coast. We always provide fresh flowers for our guests, as well as fresh milk, tea amd coffee, and a tasty home-made treat.

About Rosalyn Spencer-Johnson and Ian Johnson

Ian and Rosalyn met in 2001 and eventually got married ten years later. They live in the house next door to Spireview Cottage.

Ian is Lincolnshire born and bred, and has worked in the nearby market town of Alford for over twenty-five years as the IT Manager of a Graphics Company. Ian spends his spare time working on his model rail layout, painting miniature Napoleonic figures (sometimes 'gaming' with them) and has recently started playing golf again. On his 60th birthday he managed to achieve one of his life-time ambitions of driving a steam train on the Bodmin Railway in Cornwall.

Rosalyn is from Leeds in Yorkshire but moved to Lincolnshire in 2002 when she was appointed to a teaching post at Mablethorpe Primary School. In 2003 Rosalyn bought Spireview Cottage and moved into it with her teenage daughter. Three years later, after being appointed to a position based in Lincoln with the Youth Offending Service, she put Spireview Cottage up for sale. The house was sold in just six days! Rosalyn bought a house in Lincoln and lived there for three years before returning to Louth to be with Ian living in the house next door to Spireview Cottage. She now works as a part-time freelance education consultant. Her passions and hobbies include writing, swimming, going to the cinema and theatre, reading, playing classical guitar, and making sure that Spireview Cottage is absolutely perfect for every new set of guests who arrive at the cottage.

Why Rosalyn Spencer-Johnson and Ian Johnson chose Louth

This lovely little cottage holds many fond memories, especially for Rosalyn, who bought this house (first time around) in 2003 while teaching at a local primary school. While living in Spireview Cottage with her teenage daughter, Rosalyn started working on her first book. She loved writing with the magnificent view of St.James Church Spire either from the enclosed garden, or working at a table by her bedroom window (especially enjoying seeing St James church lit-up while writing late into the night).

In 2005 Ian bought the house next door and moved in with his two teenagers. A year later Rosalyn sold Spireview Cottage and moved to Lincoln to be closer to her new job but returned regularly to Louth to visit Ian. Three years later she moved back to Louth and in 2011 Rosalyn and Ian were married.

Meanwhile the new owner of Spireview Cottage had moved away leaving the house standing empty and becoming very neglected, Rosalyn and Ian decided to buy back Spireview Cottage with a view to renovating it and letting it out as a holiday cottage especially as Rosalyn had loved living there so much.

A year or so after renovating the cottage internally major improvements were completed to the outside to create improved parking, an attractive shared terrace between both houses and an al fresco dining area. And finally, Rosalyn and Ian set about much needed improvements to their own home but were delighted to be able to stay in Spireview Cottage themselves while some of the major works were going on.

What makes this cottage unique

Rosalyn and Ian started letting Spireview Cottage out as a holiday home in August 2014. They have been amazed and delighted by the feedback they have received since then and are absolutely thrilled at having received so many been 5 star reviews. The most used comment received has been 'It's absolutely perfect!' Other comments have included 'It's like home from home'; 'It has everything we could ever need for our holiday'; 'It's really warm and cosy here'; 'Everything is spotlessly clean': and at least three couples have said 'This is the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in!'.

Holiday makers love the view of St James' Church from the private enclosed garden, also a real sun-trap from mid-morning onwards. The shared terrace garden with its two strategically placed patio tables enjoys early morning sunshine - perfect for al fresco breakfasts and lunch. Everybody comments on how quiet it is at the cottage in spite of it being so close to town.

In additon to all the positive comments we've received about the cottage, we have received numerous remarks about lovely Louth - a vibrant town with a thrice weekly markets, and many independent shops. There are numerous pubs and restaurants all within a 5 - 10 minute walk of Spireview Cottage, and there are also many different walks from the cottage itself. The cottage is just 3 mins walk from the local supermarket, park, museum and cinema, and the town centre is just a 5 minute walk away. Being so close to the town makes it hard to believe there are two parks each 3 minutes walk from the cottage, and the spectacular Hubbards Hill about 20 mins walk away. Louth also has a thriving theatre run by volunteers and a superb leisure centre with a larger than average swimming pool. And there is so much more ...

The owners, who live in the adjoining house, have lovingly restored this property. They pride themselves in the efforts they make to ensure that each and every guest has a holiday as near to 'perfect' as possible. The cottage is accessed from an off street block-paved parking area. It has its own private garden consisting of a small lawn and a patio area with garden furniture for 4 guests. The garden, which leads from a door in the living room, is a little sun trap with a superb view of St. James' Church. There is also a larger paved area at the other side of the house which adjoins the owners' property making this a communal area. This is fully enclosed area comprising a main terrace and a separate raised al-fresco area. The terrace is beautifully lit at night time. Every guest is greeted on arrival with fresh flowers, fresh milk, tea and coffee and a tasty home-made offering. The owners are always available to answer any questions or queries about the cottage or the surrounding area.

An amazing little cottage with lots of character and everything you need.

The cottage is really lovely, relaxing and comfortable. The kitchen is new with all equipment you can possibly need, the bathroom is perfect and has a separate bath and shower. The kids loved the ducks in the bath! Rosalyn and Ian made us feel so welcome, and the homemade scones on arrival were really appreciated. It is a five minute walk to the town where there are plenty of wonderful restaurants, cafes and shops.

Excellent cottage in a great location

An excellent cottage which is extremely well equipped. Within walking distance to shops, pubs and restaurants but very peaceful and quiet. Walks from the door and the walking guides in the cottage were a great bonus.

cosy,comfortable and welcoming

A lovely little cottage close to the centre of Louth..The owners have thought of everything. We stayed on a snowy week so we're unable to explore the wider area,but found Louth a lovely friendly town to explore and were cosy and well supported during our stay. Happily recommend and hope to return in better weather.

lovely well maintained cottage, very pleasant owners who greated us with homemade scones!

Lots of character, well maintained and well equipped with everything you might need including books, board games and DVDs. The log burner was very cosy, beds comfortable, great shower. Good restaurants all in walking distance, book and enjoy.
