Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

House in Withernsea, Nr. Hornsea, Yorkshire, England - Quiet location, 30m from the beach and sea

This 3 storey terraced house is situated in a raised, quiet location on the promenade overlooking the sea. Parking is freely available on the promenade but for those occasional busy days, there is parking at the rear of the property for a small or medium car. This is accessible from a back lane. Fully refurbished with plenty of space for 6 people to relax without everyone falling over each other. For the smallest member of the family a cot and high chair are available - just ask. A sheltered patio area and garden to the rear with brick built BBQ, gives you that peace you may need when the children are arguing over the TV or bodyboard. Situated in the small seaside town of Withernsea, with it's very own unique inland lighthouse, caters for all your holiday needs. Within easy driving distance of Hornsea, Bridlington, Flamborough, Hull and Spurn Point Nature Reserve. A little further afield lies Scarborough, Filey and Whitby and for the really adventurous York and Lincoln. Many historic houses can be found nearby including Sewerby Hall and Burton Constable. You can walk the Humber Bridge or visit The Deep in Hull, but most of all you'll have a great holiday and return home relaxed and totally refreshed. Pets are not allowed and smoking is not permitted inside the property.

About Lyndon Smith

Lyndon Smith purchased this house in 2013

Why Lyndon Smith chose East Riding of Yorkshire

We always wanted to buy a house by the sea and when we saw this one the view 'did it'. You can sit and watch the sea go by, whatever the weather, come rain or shine there is always something to see. Withernsea itself, is not a fancy flash sea side town, it's a small town that happens to be beside the sea. It has everything you need for a quiet relaxed holiday including no nightclubs. You can easily get to busier places - Bridlington, Hornsea, Flamborough, Hull, you can travel further afield to Scarborough, Whitby, York, or even Lincoln, but then you can come back to the peace and tranquility that this house in this town offers. We hope that you would enjoy your stay here as much we like it here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our first guests communicated back to us that it was nice and refreshing to find little things were done well and gave examples of cooking utensils, crockery and cuttlery being of a high standard instead of the cheap stuff that is usually found in holiday rentals and that there was a nice balance between having enough furnishings, neutral pictures, decor and the like around the house to add comfort, but that you did not feel you were living in someone elses house.

A seaside home from home

  • 5 of 5

Well.... what a lovely welcome to a lovely home by the sea.

Myself, my husband and our two children ages 12 and 9 were met by the owners Pauline and Lyndon, and a huge bowl of fruit. The house was absolutely spotless and has every mod con you have in your own house. The views from the windows in the front of the house are constantly changing with the tide and weather so there's never a dull moment. We used the house as a base to visit Hull, Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington, Hornsea, and York. There's a great Fish and Chip shop nearby the 'Golden Haddock' lovely hot food and very cheap. The Boat Shed is a micro brewery, an unique place to have a drink well worth a visit and only 2 mins walk from the house.

I would definitely recommend this house as a clean well appointed home from home, in fact we're looking to book for next year... which should tell you a lot.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here twice now and it's really comfy and well equipped. Would highly recommend it. It's right on the seafront so lovely to wake up with a view of the sea. We have young kids who also really like it and there are all mod cons (dishwasher wifi etc) which make it easier.

Lovely home from home

  • 5 of 5

Great house, great views and very helpful and friendly owners. This was ideal for my family of 6 who stayed here all week at half term. Not too far to travel to days out and great to wake up to the view of the sea and the lighthouse every morning. Very peaceful at night too.

Thanks very much Lyndon & Pauline.

Wonderful, again.

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from our second summer break to this lovely property. We enjoyed last years holiday so much that we decided to return. The house is furnished to an excellent standard throughout and is very clean and well kept. The facilities are perfect for our family of five with everything we need for the week. Also the sea view is outstanding and wonderful to wake up to.

The children took advantage of our proximity to the safe and clean beach and enjoyed body boarding every day.

Lyndon and Pauline are great hosts and met us upon arrival. They also left us a huge bowl of fruit which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We enjoyed visiting the beach and swimming pool in Withernsea as well as the Lighthouse café. Everyone we've met is friendly and helpful. We visited Kelsey gardens twice for kayaking and everyone loved learning a new skill whilst watching the resident kingfishers.

We also enjoyed visiting the lovely Old Post Office café in Mappleton.

We love staying here and are already looking forward to our next holiday.

Beautiful Victorian House with stunning sea views

  • 5 of 5

you are met by the lovely owners who explain everything you need to know. The house is stunning with lots of original features. The house is spotlessly clean and there was even a scrummy bowl of fruit. The view is beautiful and if you sleep in the front bedroom you have the views from your bed!!!! My family loved that it had wi-fi and they also had a room to set up as their games room which kept them quiet whilst we read.

Withernsea is only small but they have a few nice shops and Aldi and Tesco are very close. There is also a lovely fish and chip shop not far.

The house is a good base for exploring the area and we visited Hull and had a shopping spree. The weather let us down but at least we had the comforts of the house.

I would not hesitate to recommend this holiday home to anyone and we will definitely be returning.

Thank you Lyndon, Pauline and Ash for the brilliant holiday and we will be seeing you again soon.

The blue flag, sand and pebble beach is across the quiet promenade and is less than 30 mts from the house. The sand slopes very gently into the sea and makes it ideal for young children, in windy conditions the surf is ideal for surfing/bodyboarding.

The small clean town centre has a couple of banks, bakery, fishmonger, hair salon, Aldi supermarket and a selection of local shops. A small Tesco supermarket is a 2 minutes drive away. There are several pubs in the centre and a couple of family pubs which do meals on the outskirts of the town within walking distance, a nice stroll along the promenade will get you there in 15 - 20 minutes, also the golf club is open to the public and does a range of reasonably priced meals and snacks until 9pm. There are a couple of amusement arcades, and play area's. In addition to 5 local golf courses, there are two riding stables within a 30 minute drive, one of which offers riverside and beach riding. The area is very flat and the country lanes are open and carry little traffic, so it makes it fairley safe for cycling.( we have indoor storage for at least 4 bikes if you want to bring your own !)There is a new leisure centre offering a wide range of sports and a swimming pool with a large fun slide. There are a multitude of other places to visit with interest and activities for all ages within a 45 minute drive.

Food wise, there are several cafes, the Shore's diner and Community centre does a mean breakfast, an Indian restaurant (that gets full at the weekend!), several takeaways /fish and chip shops (the Lifeboat and Golden Haddock we recommend, where they cook the fish fresh to order.)
