About Lynsey Hodgkinson

We live in Lichfield in Staffordshire with our two sons aged 23 and 18. We love the Cotswolds as there is so many lovely places to visit and relaxing things to do. We particularly chose to buy a cottage in Bourton-on-the-Water as we love the convenience of being able to walk into one of the prettiest villages in England with it lovely shops, cafes and restaurants.

Lynsey Hodgkinson purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Lynsey Hodgkinson chose Bourton-on-the-Water

We fell in love with Spring Cottage from the moment we walked in. It needed quite a lot of work but we knew it had potential. For a Cotswold cottage, it's a fairly large and it's so light and airy. It is in such a lovely location, being just a short stroll into the village, also it has a lovely south facing garden with direct access onto 'The Naight' which is a large playing field and park where Millie, our 2 year Westie can had a good run around. We especially love being able to walk into the village in the morning to get fresh bread and croissants from the bakery for breakfast. In the evenings we love to walk along the river and have a drink and sit outside one of the bars. The village takes on such a calm and peaceful atmosphere at the end of the day when most of the day visitors have headed home.

Picturesque, warm and cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay at Spring Cottage. It was spotless and beautifully maintained. Lynsey was very helpful and was easy to contact. We will be booking this cottage again next year.

It is opposite The Mouse Trap Inn which is a very friendly pub with the added advantage of good food. There are a host of coffee shops in the village which is an easy 3 minute walk from the cottage. There is space for 2 cars and a car park round the back with and Honesty Box.

A lovely Cotswolds break

  • 5 of 5

Spring Cottage is a really special place to stay for a relaxing break. The cottage is beautifully decorated and fully equipped with everything you could need. We loved wandering into Bourton on the Water at the end of the day when others visitors had left... it made us feel like locals! We had lovely weather during our visit and made the most of the sunny terrace, sitting outside with cups of tea and the felt like a million miles away from our busy London lifestyle. We highly recommend this cottage and would love to visit again.

This was the first time I have ever stayed in a cottage; I needed a dog-friendly cottage that had lots of walks nearby.

I spoke to Lynsey (the owner) who was lovely. Within a few days, I had booked the cottage for myself, my mum and two Westies.

I was so looking forward to this little trip, and it did not disappoint. From arriving at the cottage to a beautiful, clean home, chocolates and a welcome pack. The welcome pack is full of information and places to go which was a great help.

I picked my room (the attic) which has its own en-suite. I let the dogs out in the garden, following them to make sure it was secure and they couldn't get out anywhere. They could not as it is all fenced and safe.

Tilly and Marley loved the garden it is massive, my garden isn't even half the size of this. It was great, being little dogs they had plenty of room to run around and enjoy the size.

The house is beautiful with a cupboard full of DVDs and games to enjoy; even an X-Box is on hand. It is a perfect cottage to stay in.

If you go outside and turn right, 2 minutes down the road, you arrive at the little village of Burton on the water. It is beautiful, stunning. I can just imagine what it is like at Christmas.

Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and will happily talk to you about anything and offer places to go and visit. Lynsey checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok, which I thought was nice.

We went into the village twice a day, it was never boring or dull, and we would find another little street that we hadn't been down.

It was raining every day apart from the Friday, but it never dampened our spirits or the dogs, as we had a beautiful cottage to go home too. Every corner has a footpath, but sadly I didn't get to follow any of them due to rain and the very thick mud.

We went out exploring every day to all the little villages but always came back to Burton. We were regulars in Bakery on the Water. The sourdough bread is out this world. All their food is out this world. I wish we had this in London.

There is no way I could fault this beautiful cottage or Burton on the Water. I will be back again and I would recommend this to anyone with or without dogs looking for a relaxing break in a stunning little village.
