About Mary Brown
Hello! We are Mary and Henry Brown, the owners. We live in London and have a wonderful team of people in St Ives who help us to take care of Barnoon and Seabirds House. Henry looks after any issues with the building, and I manage the bookings. I really enjoy the contact with our guests - many regulars feel like friends even when all the contact has been by email. Apart from St Ives and family, our main interest is sailing - in a dinghy on the Thames and a bigger boat on the sea.
Mary Brown purchased this Apartment in 2000
Why Mary Brown chose Saint Ives
In 1998 we bought a little flat in Barnoon Terrace, having fallen in love with St Ives, and the view. We let it as well as using it ourselves from the start. Then we saw another property just up the hill which was in a very sorry state indeed. We bought it and had the inside completely rebuilt, turning the original 7 flatlets into the 5 lovely flats of Seabirds House, taking full advantage of the position. The position is great - less than 5 minutes down to Porthmeor beach or the harbour, or the shops of the pretty little town.

Great little flat
Great little flat very close to the restaurants and shops. Highly recommended.
We had a great holiday, the accommodation was excellent, clean and tidy, and just right for 2 of us.
We had a great time, the accommodation was excellent, clean and tidy well situated for the all the amenities etc. In St Ives and Car Park.
I had a good hoilday
I loved St Ives the weather was good, lots to see and do. The accommodation had every thing you needed and was in a good spot. But it was damp and needed some TLC
This review relates to Flat 5. I am really sorry that this guest did not contact us about this, but waited for 3 weeks before making a negative comment on line.
In the past we had problems with damp in Flat 5. Solid granite walls and damp seaside air leads to condensation problems. The solution was an Envirovent system, which brings air in from the outside and ensures it is circulated. Unfortunately the Envirovent unit has failed and we have an engineer booked in to diagnose the fault and if necessary renew the unit in September. Meanwhile, with the hot summer weather we had hoped and believed that it was OK.
I have now offered one visitor the option to cancel and moved someone else to another flat.
Flat 5 is well appointed, very comfortable, with everything that you need. I would certainly recommend it.
Clean comfortable owner really helpful
Perfect for two people
Very comfortable, clean and cosy with all amenities.
A 4 minute walk takes you down to the beautiful sandy expanse of Porthmeor surf beach. There's a surf school, surf board and wetsuit hire and a good cafe. The St Ives Tate Gallery overlooks the beach. From there you can walk across or around the headland known as "the Island" to Porthgwidden beach. Less than 5 minutes in the other direction and you are at the picturesque harbour, with its lovely clean sandy beach at low tide. It's a steep climb back up, so that may take you longer!
St Ives can be reached easily by train. Many mainline trains from London stop at St Erth from where there is a charming little branch line along the coast to St Ives with a frequent service. It's a spectacular way to approach the town! Seabirds is a 15 minute walk from the station or there are plenty of local taxis.
There is a small airport at Newquay, 30 miles away.
From west of London, including Heathrow, it is a 5-6 hour drive.
Lands End 16 miles
Penzance 8 miles
Marazion and St Michael's Mount 9 miles
Eden Project 38 miles
We have 3 other flats in St Ives so if the dates you want are booked, search Owners Direct for properties E15505 - our Barnoon Flat, and 8145290 - for the two 2 bedroomed flats in Seabirds House.
Restaurants: St Ives has many good restaurants, we send some recommendations with your booking information.
All the small shops and banks you might need are in the town -5 minutes away. There are 2 small Co-op supermarkets in town, and a larger Tescos in Carbis Bay.
