We purchased Nepenthe Villa on a prime lot on Ridgewood lakes golf course in January 2014. South facing 40 foot extended length private pool - pool bathroom comes complete with 5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, large family room, upgraded kitchen, full utility room. New Flat Screen TV In All Bedrooms. Ridgewood Lakes is a fully gated sub division, where the majority of homes are residential year round with no short term vacation rents, this means the area is kept to a very high standard, with exceptional landscaping and upkeep.

We are a professional couple based in Yorkshire UK. I have been visiting the Central Florida area since the mid 1980's initially as a teenager with my family and subsequently with my now wife. We love to travel especially in the US and when we found this property finally decided to buy in the area rather than rent others.

We have visited the Disney Area for almost 30 years, staying in both hotels and over 10 different private rental villas. All had different advantages and disadvantages and are a balance between location, size, cost and value.

We believe Nepenthe Villa offers the perfect combination with a relaxed atmosphere of a Fully Gated Golf Country Club but with the theme parks only 15minutes away.

Direct access to the I4 Interstate is within a couple of miles, without the need to travel on the very congested US192.

Clean, tidy, spacious, modern villa.

Excellent accommodation, clean, tidy and spacious, a lovely home. Great long swimming pool to keep you fit, if you're not too tied from the shops and parks. I would thoroughly recommend this villa to anybody.

We are submitting this in response to the previous negative review. We have stayed at this villa for 3 consecutive years and thoroughly enjoyed each one. It is a lovely villa with picturesque views of the lake and golf course. Our last stay was the first 2 weeks in December 2016.Apparently this was immediately prior to the party who wrote the negative review.

For each of our stays the villa had been thoroughly cleaned prior to our arrival and as we were vacating last year, the cleaners arrived at the villa.

Because we were surprised to read such a negative review, we felt we should give our views.

The only problem we had with cockroaches in all our stays was when we had 3 or 4 in the kitchen area only. We rang the Property Management Team to report it and told them that we planned to be out all that day. They said this was no problem as we did not need to be present. When we returned that evening there was a card saying the area had been treated and we had no other problem for the rest of our holiday.

The counter tops in the kitchen had no holes whatsoever in them.

As for the master bedroom, we believe that the bed and furniture were brand new when we first rented in 2014.The bed is large and very comfortable and all the bedding clean and in good condition.

We have never noticed any fans wobbling dangerously and the sweets shown in the video look to have just been placed on the carpet.

Regarding the videos, there seems to be lots of close ups of minor things, for example a couple of snags in the patio furniture. There were no missing or loose pool tiles so not sure why they had been placed there.

Finally the gardeners referred to in the video are actually green keepers for the golf course. I was only aware of them once when I got up to use the bathroom and saw lights on the golf course. I couldn't hear any noise from inside the house and it was approximately 7.00 am. In the video whoever was filming seems to have gone outside and got as near to the green as possible.

We do not know the owners and the only contact we have had is when booking their villa when we have found them helpful and friendly.

They are not aware that we have written this review and the only reason we have taken the time and trouble to do this is because the negative review was so unfair and obviously done for the wrong reason.

Don't Be Fooled - It's Nothing Like Its Pictures

Contrary to the other published reviews, our experience of Nepenthe was disappointing and very uncomfortable.

Firstly, the villa was filthy and has a serious cockroach problem. We would find many of the insects in the kitchen, the cupboards, bedrooms and bathrooms. We complained to the property management team about the cockroaches and they, very unhelpfully, suggested that we purchase our own bug spray and tackle the problem ourselves.

We were led to believe that a new kitchen had been fitted (as per the advertisement which has conveniently, since our complaints, been removed) in October 2015. Upon arrival however we found holes in the countertop, food stains in the sink, rust and grime in, on and around the fridge, dirt in the microwave and cockroaches scurrying into the dishwasher.

We then opened the cupboards to find crockery, cups and glasses, all of which were chipped and/or scratched. The frying pans and trays were smelly and greasy and to expect anyone to prepare food there is unhygienic at best. To call it luxury is laughable.

The sofa in the living room was stained, odorous, extremely uncomfortable and incapable of seating more than five people. As previously mentioned, the rug and carpets in the living room were stained and had what looked to be old sweets embedded into the fibres. Some of the lights did not work and when these were reported to the property management team (as directed in the property manual) it went - along with other faults reported at the time - unattended to for the duration of our stay.

Furthermore, the fan in the living room wobbled dangerously as if it may fall down at any moment. Because of this, we would not use it. The corners of the living room seemed to have gone undisturbed for some time and as a result had become home to insects and an unsettling amount of dirt.

The screening was in an appalling state. This is particularly unnerving considering the outbreak of the Zika virus.

The master bedroom left much to be desired. The bedding was odorous and stained. To say the bed was uncomfortable is a gross understatement. Suffice it to say, a bed should never leave bruises.

What we found particularly annoying were the incessant gardeners working noisily at 5.30am EVERY MORNING.

Owner's Response: We are very disappointed by this review in both its tone and most importantly the reviewers themselves. As they state they stayed in our home before Christmas but have only just posted their review having several times threatened us with posting negative comments unless we refunded their rental money. We also note they have taken the opportunity to remain anonymous..... We certainly refute their claims regarding the cockroach issue, which we immediately checked with the management company, when we heard about the accusations a month after the guests returned to UK. The home has a contracted pest control policy and had its monthly inspection done on 4th December, the guests checked in approximately 1 week later. Our understanding is that the guests were immediately offered an inspection visit from the contracted company but declined since they already had plans for that day and the next. It was at that time it was suggested that the only other option would be self control with bug spray. The guests were also informed that should that not be suitable to call the management company again once a time for inspection was available. Since that date there have been 3 subsequent routine scheduled visits (Jan, Feb & March) and several guest bookings where no reported problems have occurred. The other highlighted issues are also either significantly over emphasised or blatantly incorrect.... We have never claimed a new kitchen fitted, we did put new appliances in 2014 when we bought the house. As for being woken at 0530, by gardeners, this is simply untrue. Our gardeners would never work that early, the greens keepers for the golf course do start early, but in winter we checked and the earliest they started was 0730. As we said originally we are sorry the home didn't please the guest, but we knew nothing about any of these claims/complaints until over a month after they returned, when we got an almost exact report as above and a request for full refund under the threat of this poor review. We welcome any potential guest calling us for even more background to this response.

Lovely Villa - great facilities and location

We stayed here for two weeks as a family of 7 and had an amazing holiday. The villa is lovely, spacious, clean and well furnished. It is ideally located for all Disney Parks and has all amenities close by. We stayed here as the previous reviews were good and we were not disappointed - we would definitely stay again and would highly recommend it, whether you want the fun of Disney or to chill by the pool in the relaxing golf surroundings - fantastic!

Pool with a view

We are a family of 4 who have been visiting Florida for over 20 years, over this time we have stayed in several villas, both in the Kissimmee area and also on the coast, until this villa we had never considered staying on a golf course, but this turned out to be an excellent choice, the lake is a haven for various birds, fish and alligators. We also had a woodpecker and a squirrel or tow that were frequent visitors along with a family of cranes.

Ridgewood Lakes is a lovely area, very secure with a 24 hour manned security gate which gives you extra peace of mind, the estate also has very well maintained grounds from first turning into the driveway, lots of trees, flowers and lawned areas, along with lakes, tennis courts, community pool and of course golf.

The villa is really large both inside and out, we had more than enough space and would imagine even if we had been a larger party room would not have been a problem. The flat screen TV's with so many channels to choose from were a huge hit with our grandson (20) and my husband.

Our stay was from mid April to early May, we decided against pool heating, this was a good choice as the weather was really good during our stay and the pool got warmer day by day.

The villa is close to a Publix supermarket, and a little further down the road you can choose from Winn Dixie or Wal Mart. There is not a huge choice of restaurants close by but there is a Bob Evans, Perkins, Chillis and Denny's close by with a few others we didn't try, but getting to the 192 with its abundance of eateries is easy to do, due to the close proximity to the I4.

Getting to any of the parks from the villa is also easy again due to being so close to the junction with the I4, much quicker than other villas we have rented.

Dealing with Darren was a pleasure, he was happy to talk on the phone or send information by email when requested. The information given to reach the villa was accurate and sent well in advance of travel.

I have already recommended the villa to friends and we are hoping to make a return visit ourselves next year.
