Apartment Cairoli has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a sitting room and a large kitchen. There is also a spacious balcony accessed via the kitchen with panoramic views over the picturesque Pisan hills. The apartment is located on the second floor (36 steps) of a typical Tuscan palazzo in the centre of the historic village of Calci midway between Pisa and Lucca. It overlooks the charming main square (called Piazza Cairoli). It was totally renovated in 2013 and has a brand new bathroom and kitchen. From the rear terrace there are panoramic views of the stunning Pisan hills. Calci is just 15 minutes from Pisa Airport, 20 minutes from Lucca and within easy driving reach of the famous Tuscan cities of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra.
The Certosa di Calci (Pisa Charter house) is situated in the village (10 minutes walk from the apartment) and, in addition to a natural history museum and many other exhibitions, houses the largest freshwater acquarium in Italy.
The vineyards of Chianti are easily accessible as is the unique Unesco listed Heritage site of the Cinque Terre. The seaside and the beaches of Livorno, Viareggio and Marina di Pisa are about 30 minutes drive. The nearby natural park of San Rossore and the delightful spa town of San Giuliano Terme are also well worth a visit. Calci, while small and compact, has all the conveniences you need to make your holiday comfortable, enjoyable and stress free. The apartment is in the absolute centre of this charming village, so everything is just a few minutes stroll from the front door. There is a large supermarket, butcher, baker, chemist, post office and three banks. There are a number of cafes, bars and restaurants as well as a hairdresser, garage, tennis courts and a public swimming pool. A lively and colourful street market takes place every Wednesday. Calci is famous for its Certosa, the former Cistercian Monastery, which is now a wonderful Natural History Museum in the care of the University of Pisa. Because of its position in the lovely Val Graziosa, Calci is an ideal location for walkers, hikers and cyclists. There is a local bus service to Pisa which then has public transport connections to all of Tuscany (train and bus) but a car is recommended for convenience when staying in Apartment Cairoli. A welcome hamper is provided to all guests on arrival and there is free parking across the street approximately 30m from the apartment. Bikes are available on request as is a travel cot and/or high chair.
