Recently built in a traditional style with coloured rendered walls, a slate roof and oak floors and doors, 'Puffins' also has all the comfortable mod-cons that you would expect from an up-market holiday house. The house is decorated in a smart, contemporary fashion and features include underfloor-heating, a wood burning stove and a wet-room. It is located in the centre of town within easy walking distance of the town’s shops, cafes and restaurants. It also has the benefit of a safe, enclosed garden and off-street parking - quite a rarity in Newport!

The house has three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large open-plan living/dining/kitchen. Outside the pebbly, beach-style garden has garden tables and chairs, a summerhouse and a gas BBQ.

My name is Rebecca and I live in Pembrokeshire with my partner Peter and dogs Quail and Puffin.

Why Rebecca Hunter chose Fishguard, Newport, The Preseli Hills & Bluestone

I started building the house in January 2013 and it was finished in June 2014. It took a while but finally it's finished and I am very pleased with the result!

Since it is in the centre of Newport the house has all the convenience of being able to walk pretty much anywhere; along to the shops, down to the river, over to the Parrog, and it is just a stone's throw from several fantastic restaurants!

What makes this house unique

The house is traditionally built but has a very contemporary, modern interior. It is light, airy and spacious for summer living but with underfloor heating and a wood burner would be very cosy for a winter stay.

My partner and I have stayed in a lot of holiday houses over the years, both here in the UK and abroad. We like to think that we have learned what people need and want from a their holiday accommodation and how this can really make or break their holiday.

Since we have actually built this house ourselves we have really been able to design/decorate/equip from scratch and feel it really works!

Short break for mature ladies

Just returned from a 3 night stay at puffins with 4 other ladies.Could n't have wished for better.All our needs were catered for.The cottage is very comfortable decorated to a high standard,well equipped throughout.Perfect location,right next door to pub which we enjoyed several drinks and a superb meal.We are a group of nurses in need of rest and reenergising and this beautiful cottage is just what the doctor ordered.Many thanks to Rebecca .Highly recommend.

Second visit, and there will be a third.

Great to be back at Puffins, and to experience it in the "unpredictable" February weather. If anything, the house is more welcoming and friendly than it was the first time we stayed there. Still equipped to a high standard, still really comfortable, still a place to feel at home in.

Can't speak highly enough of Rebecca - everything is taken care of and nothing is too much trouble.

The house is clean, comfortable and warm - I'd recommend it at any time of year.

We'll be back!

Great holiday house

We had a wonderful week at Puffins as a family of five (kids 5, 3 and 4 months). The house is really spacious and the open plan kitchen, living and dining area that opens to the large garden works so well for a holiday house. The decor is cheerful and fun which is just what you want on holiday! Newport is a brilliant little place with a really well stocked health food shop, a fantastic butcher come greengrocer and a bakery which makes you feel you have stepped back in time. There are also some great cafes. The kids loved crabbing at the Parrog and running in and out of the waves at Newport Sands (although with young children neither is really walkable. The owner is a pleasure to deal with. We usually like to go to different places each holiday but are seriously considering a return to Puffins. Highly recommended.

Great cottage

What a great place to arrive in after a long and tiring journey! This cottage has everything: very spacious, nice kitchen, a lovely garden and of course stunning landscapes only a short drive away. And well maintained, clean and a very kind owner. What more could we wish for?

The cottage is very suitable for little children and also for rainy days: big enough even with small children.

We had a great time!

perfect cottage

This is the best holiday cottage we have stayed in. The cottage is very clean and decorated to a high standard. The kitchen is very well appointed has everything you will need The beds are comfy, bathrooms are clean and spacious, garden is a sun trap perfect for the bbq.

Located in the village with plenty of places to eat and drink all very very good.

Local shop a bit dear but is the only one, the butchers is fantastic, also a small market one day a week. Just a short walk your at the coastal path with fantastic views.The beech is a 2min drive or a 20min walk.

In all this is a fantastic place can not recommend enough, we have already booked for next year.

Highly Recommended

Can't recommend Puffins highly enough. It has everything you need for a relaxing, comfortable, stress-free stay. Everything in the house and the garden is of a very high standard.

The house is in a great location for a very short walk into the town (excellent butchers, nice pubs, bank, well-stocked shops) and to the coast, and is close to lots of really good places to visit (Narberth especially is well worth the 40 minute drive through fantastic scenery).

Rebecca's welcome and attention to detail was faultless and much appreciated.

We hope to come back one day...

Coast/Beach:

The house is situated next to a lane that goes down to the estuary and the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. A ten minute walk along this path will take you to The Parrog, Newport's old harbour. The beautiful Newport Sands are a 10 minute car journey away.

Further Details:

For a small town, Newport has a wealth of shops, restaurants and facilities. These include: Bank, Post Office, Chemist, Supermarket, Art galleries, craft shops, lovely cafes and a Monday morning street market.

Excellent restaurants include; The Golden Lion, Llys Meddyg, and Cnapan. These restaurants are very popular and booking is recommended especially at weekends during the summer.

Whatever rate may be quoted it should be noted that the total cost will work out at a minimum of £50 per adult.

30% deposit is required on booking with the balance to be paid 6 weeks prior to arrival.

6-12 weeks - 70% of rate refunded
4-6 weeks - 50 % refund

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday. In low season, 3 or 4 day breaks can be arranged with flexible arrival days.
The property is available after 3.00pm of the arrival day and must be vacated by 10.00am on the departure day.

Notes on prices:
In low season the house is available for short breaks of a minimum of 3-4 nights. And at other times at short notice the house may also be available for 3-4 night stays. (The cost is the same if you stay 3 or 4 nights)
