|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
This is our dream holiday home in beautiful Salcombe, an area of outstanding natural beauty. We bought the former police station and have converted it into a lovely home from home. The house is ideally situated away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, at the top of the hill, but close to the local swimming pool, new play park and Spar shop, yet only a 10 minute walk down to the town and a 10 minute walk through a wooded valley to North Sands beach. Salcombe has something for everyone shops, cafes, restaurants and beautiful sandy beaches. Sailing and watersports are available and of course there is the dramatic South Devon coastline with amazing walks and unspoilt countryside. Chageover day is Friday throughout the main season, arrive after 3.00pm and depart the following Friday by 10.00am. Shorter breaks and alternative changeover days can be considered out of season.
Liz and I live in Wendover, Bucks, with our two children and two cocker spaniels.
We have been coming to Salcombe for family holidays since our children were young (they are now 21 and 24!). At last we have been able to buy our dream home, the former Police Station. It even has estuary glimpses from the master bedroom!
We built our own house in Wendover, so once we had planning permission to convert the Police Station to a house, we managed to do most of the work ourselves: including laying floors; tiling; painting and the garden. We would like to say a very special thank you to our daughter Hannah who gave up her weekends to do so much of the work with us.
We hope you enjoy Salcombe as much as we do. It's a beautiful place to spend a week or two, and far removed from day to day
Mark & Liz Ward purchased this house in 2012
We have visited Salcombe since our children were small, and have been every year since. We have stayed in many apartments, hotels and holiday lets and always dreamt of having our own house there!
We never thought it would happen because of the cost of living in such a lovely place. However, through an amazing piece of luck we were in Salcombe on holiday the one week that Salcombe Police Station was on the market!
After falling in love with it on our visit, we decided to put in an offer, in the hope we would get planning permission. After going to 'best offers', we managed, by the skin of our teeth, to be successful!
We started work 1 week after completion, and by doing most of the work ourselves managed to turn the Police Station into Constable View
We really enjoy walking with our two dogs down through the wooded valley to North Sands and sometimes on to South Sands and Hope Cove or back along the coastal road to Salcombe for coffee.
Our other favourite beach is across the estuary by ferry, past Mill Bay and on to Sunny Cove, especially when the tide is out, when you can walk to the sand bar, which is excellent for body boarding and surfing.
It is nice to spend time in such a beautiful place, everything is just a few minutes from the house and not needing to use the car. Even when its cold and raining, Salcombe still looks beautiful.
From the end of May though to September Salcombe Outdoor Swimming Pool is open. The pool is just around the corner from the house. You can swim without getting sand in your toes and it is warm
Beautiful, comfortable home with great attention to detail. Lovely furnishings, well equipped kitchen and super beds. Delightful garden in which to relax after a busy day. Off road parking for several vehicles a real plus.
Close to the town with all Salcombe has to offer including its excellent restaurants, beautiful beaches and stunning walks.
Ideal for our holiday requirements.
The listing was accurate in every detail communication with owners Mark and Elizabeth prior to our stay was good. I would recommend Constable view as a secure environment for families with dogs, ours had a lovely stay and enjoyed their walk to the north sands beach. We eat out every night either in Salcombe or nearby and found all the pubs are dog friendly.
I would defiantly recommend Constable View as a place to stay in Salcombe, the home was well equipped and comfortable.
Lovely well appointed house with attention to the smaller details. You definitely felt that it was a home rather than a souless forgotten holiday house. The beds were amazingly comfortable too and my daughter is now requesting a duvet uparade at home. The kids loved the tv in their bedroom a little too much! Great location for a stroll into Salcombe. We would definitely recommend it!
It was all very nice and welcoming great for 2 of us and my dogs.Slightly confused as to where walk through wooded valley to beach is ,but that's a minor thing and we had great walks in the surrounding countryside and on coastal path.following the O.S map we had taken..Overall excellent place to spend your holiday. .
A lovely warm and welcoming property. The sofas and beds are very comfortable. Nice touches like a bottle of wine on arrival and Easter eggs for our Children make a huge difference as did a box of outdoor play equipment and crabbing equipment. so we didn't have to go and buy anything. A great base for exploring the local area.
We had a fabulous stay in this lovely property. Well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. The weather was mixed so we made full use of indoor and out door space - managing to fit in BBQs and eating out in the lovely garden (it has benefited from the rain!).
Even when the weather is poor there is plenty to do in the area. We particularly enjoyed the trip the Sharpham Vineyard - lunch in the pop up restaurant on site and tasting the wine (recommend the sparkling rose).
We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are returning in October.
