'The Gables', is a beautiful stone built character property dating back to the mid 1800's. It is located on the rural fringe of Dronfield Woodhouse in a Conservation area on the edge of the town, just three miles from the edge of the Peak District.

The property is set in large well maintained gardens, bordered on three sides by open fields used for grazing of livestock from the nearby farms. The gardens are flanked by hedgerow and traditional stone walling offering total seclusion and privacy.

With views of open countryside, the old village and the Derbyshire moors, the property offers guests a real feeling of life in the country, but with the convenience of still being in close proximity to a full range of services.

The historic local town of Dronfield offers a comprehensive range of shops, restaurants and services, whilst Dronfield Woodhouse and the neighbouring village of Holmesfield offer a selection of more traditional country pubs which are within walking distance or no more than a short drive away.

For those wanting to balance time in the country with city life, the property is perfectly located only seven miles from the cosmopolitan city of Sheffield with its comprehensive range of shopping, restaurants, museums, art galleries, sporting and concert venues, theatres etc. The popular market town of Chesterfield with the world famous 'Crooked Spire' is also within easy reach.

About Iain Bough

We are a professional expat couple both originally born, raised and educated in Dronfield Woodhouse prior to leaving for University and to follow our respective professions. We have two young boys and for the past eight years or so have been living and working in the Middle East.

We purchased The Gables at the end of last year with the intention that it is to be our family 'forever' home as an when we return to the UK and somewhere we can use as our base whenever any of us are back in the country visiting.

Why Iain Bough chose North East Derbyshire

Dronfield Woodhouse is a pleasant, safe town which is so conveniently located for Sheffield and Chesterfield, but sits right on the edge of the Beautiful Peak District, where we love to spend our spare time.

Whilst not really looking, when 'The Gables' came on the market in mid 2013 it was of immediate interest to us. An imposing character property set in beautifully maintained, private gardens. It had everything we wanted in our 'forever home' with a unique location which offered a real rural/countryside feel whilst maintaining the convenience of its proximity to many of the other services we required.

A viewing last July and we were all smitten. We had to have it and by Christmas it was ours!.

We hope you enjoy sharing it until we are ready to make it our permanent home!

What makes this house unique

We love the fact that as you turn into the driveway of the property you instantly get a real rural feel, even though you are so close to everything.

The large gardens on three sides offer complete privacy (apart from the odd nosey Dairy cow from the nearby farm). Almost every window overlooks open fields, usually occupied by grazing farm animals to give you a real away from it all countryside experience, but with the convenience of all the amenities you are likely to need being just minutes away.

The Peak District on the doorstep, as well as many beautiful country walks starting literally at the end of the drive, are the biggest benefits for us. Dronfield in itself holds a number of attractions and the lively City of Sheffield is only 20 minutes or seven miles away by car.

Notes on accommodation: Guests have access to a double garage adjoining the property if requested, which is perfect for securely storing bikes, climbing and walking gear etc. There are also outside facilities for washing down bikes and equipment after a day in the Peaks! Outside: The property is set in beautiful large well maintained gardens bordered by established hedgerow and traditional Derbyshire dry stone walling, which offers complete seclusion and privacy. There are four individual lawned areas facing East, South and West meaning the best of the English weather can always be accessed if the sun shines. Set well back from the road and surrounded on three sides by open farmland, the only neighbours you will be likely to see during your stay will be the sheep and cows in the neighbouring fields! There are several patio and seating areas scattered around the garden. The main patio is accessed directly from the large conservatory and has a range of garden furniture including table and chairs and a barbecue for al fresco dining. There is also a small Summer house. The large driveway on the side of the property has ample space for up to seven cars. Utility Room: Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Iron and ironing board. Drying racks. Sink and storage. Second fridge. Freezer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Rooms are provided with fresh 100% white cotton linen and plentiful supply of white towels, all of hotel standard. The property is cleaned by professional cleaners immediately prior to your stay. Other: Large West facing dining conservatory overlooking and providing access via double doors to main garden and patio. Three piece suite conservatory suite and dining table with seating for eight. Access to the living room and bedroom 4.

Lovely property. Excellent location.

Ideally placed to explore the dales and visit Chatsworth, whilst not far from main access routes making travelling to this lovely property very easy. My family who live in various parts of the UK found it an excellent place to meet up for the weekend. Iain the owner was very helpful throughout the booking process and his mum Liz was there to greet us when we arrived. Many thanks to them both for making us feel so welcome. The property is spacious with plenty of character and a lovely garden to enjoy in good weather. Nice soft white towels and bed linen provided. We would certainly not hesitate to stay there again.

For anyone like us who is gluten free there is a tremendous pub just a few minutes drive from the property called The Angel. The food is excellent and they specialise is catering for gluten free diets. All in all a fabulous weekend huge thanks to the Bough family.

The house was very comfortable with plenty of room for 7 and there was everything we needed in the kitchen We were very fortunate with the weather and enjoyed the big conservatory and the garden furniture.

Great building and lovely grounds

Stayed at the property for a long weekend with family to celebrate our mum's 60th birthday. Wanted a property suitable for 7 adults, baby and dog and The Gables catered for all. Rooms and living space excellent for all and we enjoyed eating in both the dining room and conservatory. The local area is lovely, and enjoyed a walk around Dronfield and Bakewell, which is only a short drive away. Iain communicated well with us prior to the visit and ensured everything was to our needs. We had a great stay and the whole family enjoyed it. Would recommend to others.

Home from home holiday base!

A thoroughly enjoyable family holiday, with four generations being represented & an ideal location in the centre of the country. A lovely clean, well maintained house & garden with Iain & Karen being very accommodating owners. The property is well equipped for self catering, but there are also many options for eating out locally. Our Chatsworth visit appealed across the generations, & lovely walks in the beautiful Peak District were amongst our highlights. Have booked again for a third visit, the next one being for a university reunion weekend in the autumn.

The property is perfectly located on the edge of the stunning Peak District National Park, which can be accessed in less than three miles, by simply taking a right turn out of the driveway and following your nose. Nearer still a range of beautiful walks in miles of open countryside start literally at the end of the driveway, making this a perfect destination for walkers, cyclists, climbers etc.

Whilst having the advantage of being on the edge of some of the most beautiful countryside in the country, the property is only 7 miles from both the thriving city of Sheffield; famous for its Steel Industry, Cutlery, Snooker etc and the historic market town of Chesterfield, home of the world famous 'Crooked Spire'.

Both offer a wide choice of shopping, restaurants, theatres, museums and galleries. Further afield the historic town of York is only around 75 minutes drive away, whilst the ever popular Alton Towers theme park is little more than an hour away.

The property sits on the rural fringe of the old village of Dronfield Woodhouse within a Conservation Area. In recent years the town has grown into a commuter town for the neighbouring cities of Sheffield and Chesterfield, but still retains many features of interest, as well as providing a good range of facilities such as shops, pubs etc.

The neighbouring town of Dronfield, less than 2 miles away, offers a greater range of facilities including a Sainsbury's, sports centre, numerous restaurants and pubs.

This historic town is mentioned in the 1086 Doomesday Book and boasts a beautiful 12th Century parish church of gothic architecture. It has an historic high street with numerous buildings dating back to the 1600's and also is home of Sheffield FC, the oldest football club in the world.

There are a number of traditional pubs all within walking distance or a short drive (taxis are easy to book). The neighbouring village of Holmesfield offers a further range of pubs and an award winning Thai restaurant.

Notes on prices:
Prices include provision of all bedding, linen and towels, utilities and cleaning before and after your stay. In Winter we also provide an initial stock of logs for the wood burners.

Note all major supermarket chains will deliver to the property.

We allow up to two well behaved dogs per stay and charge a small extra charge of £20 per dog per stay (up to a maximum of two) to cover any additional cleaning required.

A deposit of 25% is required to confirm bookings made more than six weeks in advance. Payment must be received in full for bookings made six weeks or less prior to arrival. Deposits will only be refunded if property can be successfully re-let.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 7 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
