Farmhouse in Petrignano Del Lago, Perugia, Umbria, Italy - Il Granaio Is In A Rural Location But Only A 10 Minute Walk From The Small Village Of Petrignano

The 3-bedroom Il Granaio has been converted from an original grain store and this double story building retains the beautiful brickwork windows of the old building. Originally these vast windows would have been left unglazed to allow air to circulate freely and dry the wheat. Now they allow light to flood into the living spaces below with an impressive mezzanine level with floorboards made from old wine barrels from where you can admire the views towards the nearby hill town of Cortona. Enjoy dining and barbecue's outside in the shaded al fresco dining area with seating for 8. The well maintained grounds are gently terraced with the pool and large lawned area around the pool on the terrace above the house. Swim in the large (14 x 5 m) and beautifully stone lined pool with surrounding loungers and shaded areas. The property is entirely fenced with security gates, but being situated on a wine and olive farm there are lovely walks and a picnic can be enjoyed in the nearby woodland which forms part of the farm. Il Graniao is part of the boutique winery Cantina Goccia. Goccia simply means drop in Italian and the emblem of the drop can clearly be seen on the gates to the property. Being close to the Tuscan Umbrian border this property is ideally positioned to explore nearby Lake Trasimeno, Cortona, Montepulciano, Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Florence, Arezzo and Siena. The closest golf course Valdichiana is only a 15 minute drive. The property has both heating and air conditioning in all rooms and all windows have built in mosquito nets. Il Graniao and pool are in the grounds of a manor house which forms the principle home on the Cantina Goccia wine farm. This larger house will remain closed when visitors are renting Il Graniao and visitors will have sole use of the gardens and pool. Florence is 1 hour away and Perugia airport only 40 minutes drive. Private pool, extensive grounds and dedicated woodland.

My husband and I bought our wine farm in Umbria more than 10 years ago and since then have embarked on a program of rebuilding the original buildings and re-planting and extending the vineyards. We love the area and the fact that it is truly a rural area with farmers who have been farming their patch for generations. Its rustic without being too isolated and is wonderfully positioned to explore other areas in the Tuscan/Umbrian region.

Notes on accommodation: Accommodation and furnishing is to a very high standard. A number of pieces of furniture are bespoke. For example all the headboards in the bedrooms have been made from old wine barrels. This architect converted home has retained a number of features from its previous life as a rural building and blended its history with a contemporary finish inside which befits a building like this located in the middle of a vineyard. Outside: Alfresco dining and BBQ area. Pool and shaded area around pool. Vineyard and woodland walks. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are provided, including swimming towels and are changed weekly. Additional housekeeping can be provided on request including cooked meals. Other: Mezzanine level with chaise lounge on the upper floor forms an ideal area to escape and enjoy the views.

Both Pisa and Rome airport are 90 minutes by car. Florence is an hour by car and Perugia airport only 30 minutes.

Distances:

The tiny village of Petrignano is a 10 minute walk and quick drive. It is quite convenient for basic groceries and a coffee, however the larger town of Castiglione del Lago is a 10 minute drive and has a large selection of shops and restaurants.

A £300 deposit is payable on confirmation of booking with 50% of total rental due 60 days before the rental and the balance payable in full 14 days before holiday begins. The returnable deposit is refunded at the end of the holiday once the property has been checked and there is no damage.
