Quiet, cozy getaway
My boyfriend and I (and our two dogs) loved our stay here. Like many before us have mentioned, it was quiet but easily accessible, and centrally located to a lot of big U.P. attractions (Pictured Rocks shoreline, Seney National Wildlife Refuge, Oswald bear ranch and Tahquamenon Falls to name a few). It was also super clean, and had everything you could need, including a surprising amount of spices and cooking supplies if that's your thing.
A few things to note (not bad things, just things we would've found helpful):
- The driveway is technically off West County Rd 451, but will look like it's off M-77 if you put it in Google maps or whatever. Think of M-77, CO Rd 451 and the driveway as a three-way intersection
- The TV is for DVD playing only. This was only an issue cause my BF wanted to watch the MLB playoffs, but we went to a bar that was playing it and life moved on
- Be prepared to drive 30 minutes or more if you need to do some grocery shopping beyond gas station snacks and the basics
- Minus the pullout couch, all the beds (the queen and two sets of bunks) are in one room, and that room only has a set of saloon doors. Not an issue for us, but something to consider if you have kids/multiple families coming up
With that said, it was so refreshing to not have internet or cell reception, and we would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a up north retreat. Thanks Dave and Heather!
Real nice cabin. It is in the country but on a main road so it is easy to find. The dog told me that he liked it there. It has a very large yard. There is a dirt road right there to walk on too. there are apple trees all over the place. the apples were still a little green but I ate some anyhow. TIM
Cozy, well decorated cabin.
The cabin was beautifully decorated! You have to see it in person. And it was centrally located for all of our activities. It had everything we needed other than food and sheets. I also brought some mattress protectors, which was good because there was only one provided on 2 of the beds.
We rented a pontoon at pictured rocks for a day, spent a day at kitch-iti-kippi and Indian Lake State Park, and went to tahquamenon falls for a day. We also discovered the charming town of Grand Maria’s, and went to Sable falls. There is no cell service for at least a 10 minute drive FYI, but that part was kind of neat! You just have to plan ahead with offline maps and weather forecasts.
We had so much outdoor space!
They do ask for donations for wood, and you need to take care of your own garbage by driving it up to the local bar and paying $3 to use the dumpster.
We really enjoyed our time there overall, and would totally stay again!
Better than anticipated!
This cabin has been lovingly cared for. The location was great, short drive to Grand Marais. 30 minutes from Seney Wildlife Refuge, 45 minutes from Pictured Rocks Cruises.
We are a family of 7 and there was plenty of room for us. The exterior and grounds are meticulously maintained, and a very beautiful setting. The inside is rustic, clean and homey. The kitchen was well equipped(toaster, crockpot, pots and pans).
We enjoyed our stay very much!
Clean property, everything was as advertised.
Quiet, away from it all.
Plenty of room inside and outside.
Close to everything, but not too close.
