About Mrs Vivienne Mills

Having run my holiday cottage successfully now for almost 30 years, I have gained many new friends through returning visitors to the cottage.

I am now semi-retired and enjoy living in Stainforth.

Mrs Vivienne Mills purchased this cottage in 1986

Why Mrs Vivienne Mills chose Yorkshire Dales

I moved to Stainforth in the Yorkshire Dales 30 years ago and loved the area so much I decided to buy a cottage in the village and offer it as a holiday cottage to holidaymakers so they could appreciate the wonderful scenery and numerous walks in the surrounding countryside.

Stainforth is easily accessible and far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a busy town. It also provides a perfect base for touring the Yorkshire Dales and visiting the Lake District.

What makes this cottage unique

2 Hollies Cottages is completely pet friendly to enable visitors to take advantage of all the lovely local walks with their pets.

It has all amenities within 3 miles.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A wonderful week's holiday exploring the area from this comfy and warm cottage. Everything we could ask for at No.2 The Hollies - a refreshing change in a holiday rental not to have a long list of do's and don't's. Great village pub, very good food and excellent beer!

Very well equipped and comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely cottage in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. There were plenty of crockery, dishes and pans and utensils. It is tastefully furnished with plenty of blankets on the sofas for chilly evenings - we went in the summer and did not use them - although there is a log burner for cold evenings which I can imagine would be so cosy. Lovely courtyard garden with patio table and chairs which we were able to sit and eat at several evenings.

Locally - The Craven Heifer pub is a must - varied menu, great beer and very comfortable. Children will love jumping across the stepping stones through the river in the village. Local walks - there are so many from the doorstep - from walking into Settle either along the river Ribble or across the fields, the 2 waterfalls - Catrigg Force and Stainforth Force are a must, the walk over to Elaine's tea rooms for a fabulous lunch, caves close by and, of course, the 3 peaks. Would definitely recommend this cottage.

Fabulous place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here with our small dog for a week in August. It was perfectly located, to allow us to do local walks, as well as travel further a field to the Lake District. Although there was only the two of us and our dog, the cottage was an ideal size and would have been just as comfortable if our two grown up children had come too. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare and cook meals and the washing machine was a bonus as on some of the wetter days we ended up quite muddy! The bathroom was a great size with a lovely view of the church. The only negative I had was the hot water pressure. After a long walk all day, it took a while to fill the bath for a nice soak! (There was a power shower that was fine). This however would not stop us coming back here again. The garden was enclosed and on the odd day the sun shine, we were able to eat outside comfortably. There is a pub within a few minutes walk that welcomed dogs, and although the landlord always seemed to be grumpy, the rest of the staff were really nice, as was the food. (big portions too). I would have given 5 stars had it not been for the water pressure.

Lovely cosy cottage and very well equipped.

  • 4 of 5

Had a lovely week and walked miles. We were lucky with the weather so didn't need to use the wood burner I'm the lounge. As you can leave dogs in the cottage while you go for a meal for example, we mightl bring ours with us next time.

A fantastic 3wks just outside Settle. Very dog friendly and lots of walks from the perfectly cosy house, esp up to Catrigg Force and over to Feizor. Already planning a return trip!

Hopelessly happy at Hollies Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in what can only be described as dismal weather conditions on 30 January 2016. On opening the door in to Hollies Cottage we felt immediately at home, warm and welcomed.

The stunning little lounge with its log burner was a fantastic sight and a much welcomed treat for the weekend. Finally a patch of dry weather appeared and we hot footed the dogs out along the river to Settle. 7 miles and nearly 4 hours later, tired and hungry we returned; lit the fire, at hot lasagna and snuggled under the lovely woollen blankets. The dogs snored happily and we merrily drank wine with a warm glow.

The rooms are ample for four people and our two mongrels. The kitchen provided a good space to get together and eat. The enclosed garden was just what was needed for the dogs to nip out, sniff and investigate.

The only one negative, if it can be called that, was a squeeky bed (no not because of that!, naught minds!) when hubby turned over the bed squeaked and we all woke up, so a little disturbed sleep on the first night. However, we simply added more miles and more wine on the following day and at night we didn't notice it.

This an amazing property, superbly looked after, with a wonderful access in to open countryside. Perfect location, perfect lodgings and perfect time spent there.

We'd absolutely return as we felt so at home. Viv was fantastic and very prompt in her responses. She even knocked on the door when we arrived to see if we were ok which was lovely. Truely fabulous weekend had by all.
