Cottage in Wembury, South Devon, England - Stunning Location, With The South West Coast Path At The End Of The Garden Gate

Red Gables is located in the village of Wembury on the south devon coast, which is an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Red gables is a 5 minute walk from the local beach. The local beach is well know for its rock pools. Wembury marine centre educates visitors about the local marine wild life and what they can find in the rock pools and how they can help and protect and preserve them. The centre is manage by the Devon wildlife trust. The South West coastal path is located at the end of the garden from the cottage. The South West coast path has stunning views which over the Great Mewstone and the River Yealm and the two villages either side of the river; Newton ferris and Noss Mayo which can be accessed by the local ferry at the Mouth of the Yealm.The bay of wembury is good for swimming, kayaking, Paddle boarding and surfing.There are many local pubs in the area including the local village pub the odd wheel which is a 20 minute walk from the cottage.

Wembury is a 20 minute drive from Plymouth. Plymouth has lots of navel history including the mayflower steps on the Barbican where the pilgrims set sale for America. You can get the water taxi across from Mount Battern to the Barbican which offers great views of Plymouth sound and Plymouth Hoe.There are plenty of good restaurants and bars in this area.

About Debbie Lang

we have lived at Red Gables for 20 years which was originally a sea side chalet on the cliff. The annex is adjacent to our house which was built originally for my parents. We are very much part of the local village community and appreciate our surroundings, my son is a local surfer, and we all love the sea and the beautiful walks especially our dog.

.We bought the original property for its prime location. Wembury is A lovely Place to bring your children up it has a real village community which is built around, school, church, beach which is part of the Uk Marine Conservation

What makes this bungalow unique

The Benefits of staying at the Annex is that you just walk out the gate on to the south west coast path which has amazing walks and also only 5 mins to Wembury beach which has a national trust café and marine conservation which have rock pool rambling.

Lots of walks to local pubs and water taxi's to take you from Wembury to Noss Mayo and Mountbatten to Plymouth Barbican .

Outside: There is a big garden with a patio area. The patio is west facing so you get the last of the sunlight and can enjoy the sunset. The patio furniture seats 4 people. There is a whirl gig washing line and a barbecue. Cleaning / / Linen /: Duvet, pillows, bedlinen and tea towels are provided.

Great location for coastal path walkers

We were made to feel very welcome by the hosts and the property is in a perfect location for walking on the coastal path.

We would recommend to other walkers as there is a bus from Wembury to Plymouth at 9.30 am making it a great walking day back to the accommodation.

Very clean and comfortable - just what we needed.

Great location and comfortable annex

Awesome location for this holiday home - right on the coastal path - with lots of lovely walking in the area. The Annexe is well furnished, clean and comfortable (especially the bed!) Perfect couples retreat and great base for exploring the local area with your OS map. A car is a must for getting out and about further afield and Plymouth is only a 20 minute drive away.

We stayed here for a long weekend, with our little dog and what a superb, good value, place to stay. Debbie and Steven were very friendly and made us very welcome.....

The accommodation was exactly as described, having everything we needed, tv, books, maps, local info, games, DVDs and a PlayStation and games also a very welcome packet of choccie biscuits!!!!...

The bed was soooo comfie, we slept like babies, and the feather pillows, duvet and crisp bedding, were such a treat.

The location is perfect, 5 mins to a pretty beach ( with toilets and ramps) with great rock pools to explore. The beach is dog free over the summer months, although there are other bays to walk to which aren't..Really stunning scenic walks along the coastal path in both directions. The little coffee shop on the beach did delicious cream teas, coffees and pastries, definitely worth a visit. The area is owned by the national trust and very unspoilt.

There is a great pub up the road called The Odd Wheel, which did very nice meals, also dog friendly if not too busy....

We would definitely recommend staying here, and we are looking forward to a return visit!!!

Coastal Retreat

Great holiday cottage which opens out onto a beautiful coastal path, ideal for walking the dog and enjoying the sea views. Position is close to Plymouth and lovely beach at Bigbury on Sea.

Local pub, The Odd Wheel is within 15 minutes walking distance and serves good food and also dog friendly.

Cottage had everything we required and owners were great, very helpful and friendly.

Couldn't ask for more for our honeymoon.

Wembury beach is a 5 minute walk from the cottage, There are many other beaches within the area which can be accessed by the coastal path. such as Heybrook Bay (30 minute walk), Bovisands (1 hour walk) and cellers beach ( 1 hour 30 mins) which involves getting the water taxi across the yealm.

you are able to do coastal walks right from the house to local pubs for lunch or evening meals.


Plymouth ferry port which crosses to Roscoff/Santander is a 25 minute drive from the cottage, and Exeter airport is an hour drive away.


There are many interesting coastal and inland villages within the area, such as Newton ferris (45minute walk and a short ferry ride), Modbury (20 minute car drive), Heybrook Bay (30 minute walk).

There is a local village shop which is at the top of the village (10 minute walk), The nearest supermarket is a 20 minute drive. There are lots of activities to do in the area such as learning to surf at discovery surf school (located at Bigbury On Sea), Sailing and other waterspouts such a Wind Surfing at Mount Battern activity centre. Dartmoor is a 30-40 minute drive, Dartmoor offers breath taking views and stunning walks.
