|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
¨Imagine sitting by the pool at night, the pool itself and the nearby flower borders beautifully lit! And enjoying the comfortable summer temperature of southern France, listening to the sounds of nature´.
This vacation rental has everything your family need for an enjoyable vacation. Salt water pool, BBQ, modern kitchens and bathrooms, garden furniture and WiFi. Dogs are admitted.
The property has an spectacular setting, two country houses at the end of a ridge, surrounded by grand old trees, and with stunning views.
Around the houses and the swimming pool is a spacious garden, approximately one acre. It is all for your exclusive use with a large lawn, bushes and flowerbeds, and in the surroundings farming fields and woods.
The two houses, the Old House and the New House, built in the Perigordine golden limestone, are partly more than 200 years old. They are tastefully restored for your comfort, but with traditional features retained. Together they sleep 11 persons.
The property is excellent for large families or other groups wanting privacy. The children can play in the spacious garden and in the surrounding forest.
Nearby is the Dordogne river and the beautiful towns of Sarlat, Domme, Beynac, La Roque Gageac, Castelnaud and Les Eyzies. There are a lot of beautiful castles and age old caves, all with their age-old history.
THE NEW HOUSE
The New House is a fantastic combination of old French country life and modern comfort. It was once upon a time the cowshed and barn of the former farm. In the 90s it was rebuilt, but its old character was retained with impressive beams and a large fireplace.
But unlike old French country houses it has large French windows opening up to give light and an excellent view of the swimming pool and the garden. The French doors leads to a conservatory, also fully furnished.
The terrace by the entrance has a dining table for eight people.
THE OLD HOUSE
The Old House fits the romantic image of the old French country house. It is decorated with centuries-old stones, an old bread oven and exterior romantic stone stairs leading to the first floor.
POOL AND GARDEN
The salt water pool is 10 by 5 meters, equipped with comfortable sun beds for everyone. The tiling as well as the lining is new.
Close to the pool you will find the barbecue. One cannot imagine a better place to prepare today´s dinner, while sharing a drink with your fellow vacationeers. If you wish, help yourself to some of the herbs in the garden, parsley, thyme, chives, mint, rosemary or sage.
In addition to the wooden dinner table on the New House terrace there is also one in the garden, which can be moved according to the preference of the guests.
The area has a great variety of castles, caves, museums, churches, gardens and dry stone huts. All can not be mentioned, but here are a few:
* The castle of Beynac is an impressive fortress, and the idyllic village is enjoyable.
* The castle of Castelnaud has an extensive collection of weapons and armour.
* The castle of Montfort, beautiful as a fairy tale.
* The caves of Lasceaux exhibits the finest display of the prehistoric paintings of our far ancestors of up to 20 000 years ago. Must be seen!
*Other caves are Font-de-Gaume, les Combarelles and the Grand Roc.
* The Roque de St Christopher is a very interesting prehistoric as well as historic settlement. It is situated in a vast natural terrace in the rock face. We learn about the different aspects of life, hunting, slaugtering, the making of food, the store rooms, their ancient technology and ways of self defense.
LEISURE AND RELAXATION
From Vitrac, Cenac, Grolejac and La Roque Gageac. Balloon trips can be hired from La Roque Gageac.
For those who love walking, there are a lot of marked tracks in the area. In the tourist offices you can find maps suggesting interesting routes, or you can plan your own tours using the local maps (those with blue covers).
Bikes can be hired in Sarlat, and they deliver the bike at a place convenient to you.
....AND LOTS OF OTHER THINGS
We are a Norwegian couple in the sixties. Thirteen years ago we decided to make a change in our lives, and settled in the heart of Dordogne. Here we have spent our days taking care of the houses and the garden at Pech Long. And we have enjoyed every minute of it.
Randi Holen Rom purchased this house in 2002
After having visited most parts of southern France in the search for the place of our dreams, we found Dordogne! And could never forget it. The beautiful scenery, the marvelous architecture, the castles and caves, the food, the wine... When we found le Pech Long, we had no doubt. The romantic houses, the fabulous view, the neighborhood, everything pleased us.
´We love your home. And my husband is crazy about Domme... We hope to stay for two weeks next year! We consider your home our ´home away from home´´. (Guest 2014)
´The garden is to die for, and the pool and the views perfect. What more could we ask for?´ (Guest 2014)
´Oui, nous avons été enchantes de notre séjour, nous garderons votre adresse pour louer une autre année certainement´ Guest 2014)
What a fabulous holiday we have just had at Pech Long. We couldn't have wished for a more perfect location with such beautiful views. We all agreed that this was one of the best holidays that we have ever had.
We spent 2 weeks in these wonderful houses and were very lucky to have had the weather on our side. We loved the seclusion of these properties, helping us to completely relax and 'get away from it all'.
Pech Long is ideally located in the Dordogne, close to the main attractions in this area, including Domme and Sarlat.
Both houses were very well equipped and met all of our needs. It was lovely to use the BBQ in the evenings and enjoy our meals overlooking the stunning views of the Dordogne.
The pool was fantastic to have on the really warm days, with the kids spending most of their time in here.
The skies both in the morning and the evening were breathtaking.
We have such fond memories of this holiday and would love to return again.
Thank you so much Randi and Arne
There are things in life you just can't help becoming addicted to. Pech Long is one of those things for our family and 2015 has seen our fifth visit. It just works for us......why??? It feels like our second home and from the minute we turn into the drive and make our way along the ridge to the gates we breathe a sigh of relief, open the wine and admire the stunning view. It is a secluded haven of tranquility, that is silent yet speaks through nature from the cicadas in the trees, rustling in the bushes, lizards on the walls and eagles circling above us. We listen to the Owls at night as we watch the shooting stars and marvel at the Milky Way. Some would think we are mad to call this entertainment, but you truly can't help but unwind and leave the stress and life challenges behind. Over the years we have enjoyed the tourist trail of the Dordogne, now we've "seen it, done it". So when we can pull ourselves away from the pool, garden and amazing view towards Gordon, we enjoy simple things and have found ways to avoid the overcrowded Dordogne. Try a picnic and swim/float down the river Dordogne where you can find many stretches of unspoiled, uncrowded riverbank to enjoy - our dogs love this outing. If you want a peaceful canoe trip ask to be taken up river from Grolejac where you will find you have the river to yourselves....we have seen king fishers and otters. Visit Sarlat on market day but arrive at 8.30am to park and get breakfast. Visit the stalls early, miss the crowds and then escape smiling smugly as you pass the long queue of cars crawling towards the town in search of the last available space. Use the supermarkets in Gordon, a lovely market town 15 mins South they are just as good as Sarlat and you'll avoid the queues - enjoy a little aperitif in the old town and visit the view point on your way home Go to Domme lots - visit the caves late afternoon when the crowds have gone ( they are spectacular) and eat a large ice cream when you come out whilst enjoying the famous view. Finally, enjoy these two wonderful houses and the relaxed and homely ambience they offer. They are unfussy, clean and well equipped. Robert and Dave who look after the property and garden for the owners were charming and very helpful when we lost electricity during a storm. They also cooked an amazing meal for us - booked in advance. So, I am sure we will be back again .... this addiction is hard to overcome and frankly, we're not trying hard to beat it!
We can't speak highly enough of how welcome the owners Randi and Arne made us feel. They had bread, cheese and wine waiting for us upon our arrival. As our flights were delayed and we hadn't had a chance to buy food yet, it was a wonderful surprise for four hungry, tired Aussies.
The house is in a beautiful part of France. We had plenty to do and see each day. It was also great to spend the afternoons lazing by the pool eating and having the odd drink or two.
The house has so much charm and was very well appointed. The only negative is that the wifi connection in the old house is a little patchy, and as the owners point out, the connection to the internet in this part of rural France is not the best. However, that made it all the easier to unwind.
Overall it was a fantastic week.
Apart from the photographs of the house, the gardens, the pool and views, the exact number of bedrooms for us it was also the reviews of previous holidaymakers that drew us to Le Pech Long. Everything was as stated but even more beautiful in reality. A wonderful place to completely relax and enjoy the surroundings. As the weather this year in France hasn't been as hot as usual it was good to have plenty of places nearby to visit. Downside of area is the number of tourists, upside of house and garden is the peace and tranquility to return to.
When we arrived, we thought we had the wrong route - there can't be anything beyond this point - and then paradise!
Such an astounding place to situate two houses - the perfect hideaway!
We had the most wonderful holiday. And although by times there were 6 kids running around the garden and jumping into the pool for endless hours, it was relaxing for us adults. So much to investigate, roaming around the garden, plunging in the pool - the kids had the time of their life for gorgeous 4 weeks.
Are you looking for a quiet place to relax, to revive, to read - perfect! Nobody will disturb you, you can just be.
Are you looking for a place, where you can relax and the kids can just be kids - perfect! Nobody will be annoyed, you can just be.
We missed nothing - everything needed was on hand. Always important - the beds' mattresses were superb, the kitchens' equipments very elaborate and the bathrooms clean, the water pressure absolutely "showerable".
The owners so lovely, helpful and attentive, always happy to be of help.
The Dordogne itself a magnificent place - so much to see - chateaus, castles, beautiful villages.
Thank for sharing your wonderful home with us!
Wow, what an amazing find! This is the perfect destination for a relaxing break for an extended family, or a group of close friends. Both houses are beautiful and very tastefully decorated. The quality of of the furniture and appliances is superb, I've never settled into a holiday so quickly before.
The swimming pool is superb. The water is salty, but only slightly. We found that it doesn't sting, it's great for the skin and the pool is really big: we spent many hours in it. The view is amazing across acres of forest, and you would struggle to find anywhere as peaceful.
The owners are attentive and charming, the beds are comfortable, and the location is ideal for activities such as caving, canoeing, horse-riding or walking. Le Pech Long is a slice of heaven on earth.
