A great place to escape with amazing views, perfect for a real family getaway with a difference
From initial contact through to end of our holiday, the experience was great, with Jennifer contacting us and answering any questions, adding to the great experience we had at Haldon View.
As a family of 4 with 2 teenage boys and a small dog, we wanted something a bit different to the normal holiday park type holidays and luckily we stumbled on Haldon View.
From arriving and having to use the wheelbarrow to carry our bags to the cottage (great fun) we were very happy with the cottage, with the rustic boat decor and the ability to simply spend time just watching the ever changing river and wildlife.
We did not have the best of weather, but we did have amazing sunsets and due to it being a little unsettled for August, we made use of the log burner and spent our evenings watching the river go by, along with night time crabbing.
Several day trips out to local Towns/Villages all within short driving distance, we were able to enjoy the best of Devon, including Dolphin Watching on a boat out of Brixham.
We purchased a couple of wet suits in Torquay which allowed us to spend most evenings in the River. Our boys found the rope swing along the shore which was a lot of fun jumping off the edge and into the River.
When it came to coming home, we simply did not want to, our stay was perfect for our family and gave us the escape that we were looking for to make it a holiday that we will remember for a long time, hopefully until we return :-)
Part of me does not want to leave this review to keep it a little secret :-) but Jennifer deserves the credit and other like minded families need to enjoy Haldon View.
If you are looking for luxury and a busy environment then this is not for you, but if you want to escape from it all and have quality family time in a quirky environment surrounded by wildlife and the sea/river, then this is perfect for you.
Delightfully private & special spot
A haven of quiet entertainment and relaxation for families that like to do their own thing.
We are late 40's with a teen son. We liked the boat-feel of the property, it's cosiness but also openness to the life of the river and nature and fresh air. We lived a blessed, relaxed life, watching water sports and water 'messing about'. We had our own dinghy for a bit of messing about too (and open water swimming at high tide). We watched the bird life and photographed it when the tide took the water away and the birds moved in daily. We cooked, we drank, we enjoyed the whole space, top garden included for sunny lunches under the umbrella and the son was happy to have Wifi good enough to remain connected when we were not doing family things. We enjoyed walks, meals/own and out, day trips, seclusion and an element of exclusivity having the last spot on this part of the estuary with no passers-by other than the odd walker and one day the post-man. We are foodies with special dietary requirements and we managed great with the well equipped kitchen. We will definitely return. There is too much the place offers to say it all. But it is not for those waiting to be entertained or needing to be right near the hub of holiday life.
Lovely location with great views
Clean & tidy with all basic needs met.
This was an excellent escape for me as I have recently lost my Mother. It met all expectations.
This ticked all the boxes for me as it was quiet & remote. The challenge was getting the car emptied & to the cottage without getting wet so I would suggest not taking too much! It was really quiet & therapeutic with even getting sun burn on a couple of days. Went to the local pub on a couple of days by the car park as we were too lazy to walk too far & found the food & service very good but maybe that was after a couple of bottles of wine! Jennifer left me a candle & postcard after losing my Mum which was very kind & thoughtful but made me cry again!
Walked both ways from the cottage along the estuary but there was no short cut to Newton Abbott so would suggest towards Shaldon is better but you have to use the lanes in parts which got a bit hair raising with two sausage dogs.
I love running but found it difficult in the farmers fields as muddy & dangerous on the roads as I kept having to jump into the bushes & got numerous stings. Also difficult running along the estuary as very skippy & wet in parts so gave up by day three & went to the pub for lunch.
I had a great time & would recommend it to anyone if you want to escape & be alone.
The flexibility on times to arrive & go really helped to take the pressure off & enjoy even more.
Thank you Jennifer & I will definitely be back soon.

A charming cottage in a special location
This is indeed a charming cottage in a splendid and rather special location. We loved our stay here. The cottage is comfortable and well kitted out. We really enjoyed our stay. As described in the accommodation details, there is a bit of a walk from the car park to unload baggage and groceries but once in the cottage all that effort is rewarded. Our grandchildren enjoyed visiting us and enjoyed picnicking and playing in the safe back garden. Would definitely recommend.
