The fabulous, remote Glenuaig Lodge is on the Glencarron Estate about 50 miles due West of Inverness. The unassuming stone exterior blends in with the surrounding Munros but hides a stunning interior, beautifully designed to be in sympathy with its origins and location and fully equipped for total comfort. Whilst Glenuaig Lodge looks like a wee cottage, it is a large four/five bedroom house with three reception rooms, a large kitchen and 2 bath/shower rooms. It was originally designed for Victorian gentlemen and their servants to lodge whilst stalking on the remote hills of the Estate, long before the advent of 4x4s. In few places will you feel so at peace with the natural world. A 4x4 is essential to go into Glenuaig. Local hire available. The Glencarron Estate is in Wester Ross, a very beautiful area in the Scottish Highlands. The Estate is in the west of the central Highlands having easy access to the beaches on the west coast and the sights and activities (including golf and distilleries) in both the west and east. The estate is ideal for Munro baggers, with 4 Munros (mountains or hills over 3,000 ft.) on the estate and 8 others within 10 miles. There is salmon, brown trout and sea trout fishing on 3km of the River Carron and a large accessible Loch and also trout and char fishing on two hill lochs on the Estate. A boat is available by arrangement. Plentiful stag and hind stalking with the estate stalker is available in season. Clay pigeon shooting may also be arranged. Under one hour's drive from Inverness, 3 hours from Aberdeen and 5 hours from Edinburgh, with many value flights from LHR, GTW, Luton, Bristol etc. to these cities); local shops are in the villages of Achnasheen and Lochcarron.
Toad Hall is privately owned.
The Area has outstanding natural beauty
Remote piece in the wilderness with stunning views and wildlife all around.
Some visitors to Glenuaig wrote: “What can I say ? It was a fantastic weekend in a truly stunning location. Walking, eating and watching DVDs (good selection by the way) in front of the fire was the perfect break and enjoyed by young and not so young! The Lodge has tremendous character and we all felt at home very quickly. The drive up to Glenuaig is an adventure in itself and the deer turned out in force to welcome us. As you would expect from Scotland in January the weather threw everything at us ...snow, sleet, rain, wind ....but that really added to the experience. Watching the weather change, from inside the very cosy kitchen, was fascinating. And on Sunday a climb to one of the snow covered summits was rewarded with blue sky and brilliant sunshine. Breathtaking. ... The Lodge is extremely well equipped and has been really nicely refurbished without losing its original charm. And appearances are deceptive. It looks small and compact from the outside but inside it opens up ...
