About Carolyn Walford
I have inherited my lovely house in Lewes and very much enjoyed turning it into a welcoming family home. I am delighted to share it with considerate people who will appreciate being in an old house in the centre of beautiful Lewes and the South Downs National Park.
Carolyn Walford purchased this House in 2014
Why Carolyn Walford chose Lewes
Lewes is a fascinating town with a wealth of interesting shops, beautiful buildings and a variety of delightful places to eat and drink. The house is easy walking distance from everywhere; just below the Castle, and 7 minute's walk from the mainline station with a journey time of only an hour into London and 15 minutes to Brighton. By contrast, the Pells open air swimming pool and a country walk along the river are at the bottom of the road. It's close to good food shops and supermarkets with a lovely cafe just round the corner.
What makes this House unique
The house is quiet and comfortable with a charming south-east facing back garden. It is also a very unusual house as it has a 'flying freehold'. This means that, while from the front it looks like a classic 'two up and two down' artisan's terraced cottage, in fact the back part of the house next door is incorporated into the house making its appearance very deceptive. Upstairs there is a good-sized third bedroom with en suite shower and lavatory, which is in fact at the back of the next-door property, and downstairs, the large walk-in larder and the downstairs loo are also technically part of next door too - in fact the inside loo is actually in the garden next door! The ground floor is open plan with a large kitchen-breakfast room and a folding glass wall onto the sunny garden.

Restful Easter Break.
Our family really enjoyed staying so close to the town, the castle, a park and the river. The house was larger than we had expected (the photos didn’t do it justice). It was beautifully clean, lovely and quiet, plus the kitchen was really well equipped - a lovely place to stay for a restful week!
Thank you very much for your excellent review. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in my house and lovely Lewes.
Well equipped, clean and good location
My husband and I stayed from a Friday afternoon until the following Monday morning. We found the house to be very well equipped and Siobhan (the house-keeper) even made sure there was some milk in the fridge for us. The house was also very clean and the beds were comfortable. The location was also good, a short walk to the Castle, (well worth a visit) and the High Street. Parking may be a little problematic but as I have a blue badge we didn't have a problem and were able to park in the disabled space outside the terrace of houses.
I’m so pleased you enjoyed the house and found it clean and comfortable. It is intended to be a ‘home from home’ while you visit lovely Lewes and I’m glad you had a good stay.
We had a great stay in Lewes. The house is perfectly located for the town and train station, very comfortable and clean, check-in and out was smooth and friendly, and we would love to stay again.

Very welcoming home in the heart of Lewes
We had a lovely stay in this house which is really a home, with a warm and cosy vibe to it. The pictures make it look a little sombre, this is not the case at all. Bedrooms are very comfortable, and bathrooms are new. It has a lovely well-tended little garden at the back. Like everyone we met in Lewes, the housekeeper and gardener are a delight. The house is right in Lewes, but in a quiet part. Everything is a short walk away. You can park in the nearby car park for £2 a day, which is amazing compared to parking on a meter. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much for this very generous review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the house and garden and found my helpers 'a delight'. I will make sure they know.
The property suited our needs very well.
The house is very comfortable, well equipped and ideally located for the amenities of this historic town. The owner was very helpful too. We will definitely think of using it again and have recommended it to our friends.
