We had a lovely stay in this cottage which is a little gem in the Cambridgeshire countryside It had everything thing the two of us wanted to make our stay enjoyable. Convenient for Cambridge and visiting our daughter and for exploring the area. We will definitely come back and stay again. Warm, well equipped and ideal for two.

Compact but comfortable with everything you need and high quality finishing throughout. Great loc'n

Everything about this property is top quality. We loved it. One slightly unusual element is a "european" bathroom in which the shower is not entirely walled in and is part of the same floor as the rest of the bathroom so after a shower the floor is damp. Fabulous shower though. We would happily return and recommend the property. It is very convenient to Cambridge and to a couple of interesting National Trust sites and Ely cathedral. Nice village shop and Waitrose nearby.

IDeal for two

  • 5 of 5

We chose this cottage to stay in as we had booked to go to a concert in Cambridge deciding then to have a weeks break. The cottage is so central to many interesting places to visit which we were able to do plus the weather was in our favour. The cottage has everything to hand like from a home to home.

Thankyou Mike & Ann for a lovely holiday.

Attractive property, with on site parking, in the grounds of a thatched house

  • 4 of 5

The property met the description given. It was clean and well maintained. The owners were on site and available whenever we had a query. It would have been helpful to have a mirror near a socket for drying hair, also tin foil, paper towel, tissues, small dishes for fruit, and soup spoons. We recommend the property.

Haslingfield has many thatched cottages and a lovely village green, with an interesting body shadow sun dial. There is a booklet in the property describing walks around the village.

We enjoyed using the 2 village shops, they catered for what we needed, and the staff, and other customers, were friendly and helpful.

Park and ride in Trumpington was the best way to go into Cambridge. You park for £1, and can use concessionary bus passes, if you have them, for the ride. The downside was that the last bus back from Cambridge was about 8pm.

We thoroughly recommend the "Kings and Backs" walking tour. Our guide, Tony, was informative, fun, and had lots of anecdotes to share. Choral evensong in Kings (5.30pm, queue at 5pm), was a bit disappointing as the acoustics are poor, not surprising with such a high ceiling.

A walk along footpaths, starting at nearby Canteloupe Road to The Orchard in Grantchester (about 5 miles return), would have been a good option. There are Ordnance Survey maps in the property to help.

One evening, we ate at The Royal Oak, Barrington (the next village), both of us had marinated lamb, which was delicious, and reasonably priced. We felt that one portion of potatoes and veg was ample for two.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments. I understand the problem you had with the position of a socket and mirror so have attached another mirror to the inside door of the wardrobe which should overcome the problem. The Cottage is equipped with enough cutlery and crockery for four people and there are plenty of small bowls, serving dishes and a wooden fruit bowl. We do, as a courtesy to guests supply some consumables in the cottage - bathroom requisites tea and coffee and other cooking basics such as salt oil and pepper. I suppose there will always be some debate about where to draw the line but essentially Garden Cottage is self catering. If an urgent need arises we are always ready to help out.
