|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Casina Rosita is well equipped with all modern comforts but still retains character with beamed ceilings throughout, and an open fireplace in the kitchen. At the back of the property is a small track leading down to the river where it is possible to fish for trout, or for children to play for hours. Swimming and paddling is fun in the improvised pools the neighbours make along the river. The extensive garden with orchard is fully-fenced and boarders a river ,a covered pergola for dining outside, BBQ, terrace and a gated pool (8M x 4M). This house is a little remote, set in the depths of the countryside, with meadows and barns, and the mountains in the distance. The house is around 4km from the mediaeval walled village of Castiglione, where there are basic shops and a couple of restaurants. Within reach of other Tuscan towns - see below. Entrance hall leading to: newly fitted kitchen with washing machine, oven, hob, microwave, and fridge freezer. Table and chairs for dining. Open fireplace. The hallway also leads to a dining area and a living area with doors leading to garden. There is a TV,CD player and WI-FI. There is also a downstairs WC. Upstairs the house has two double bedrooms and a large landing area with twin beds. There is also a bathroom with tub and shower over. Off the landing area is a small terrace perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine. Just behind the house and down the slope is a wonderful river, which can be heard running from the garden. The house is situated 4km from the mediaeval town of Castiglione which has a couple of restaurants and bars, and is famous for its still intact walls and wonderful views. Castiglione, recently awarded Tuscany's most beautiful village, is around a 15 minute drive from the market town of Castelnuovo with its popular Thursday morning market, bars and restaurants, and around 1 hr 5 mins from the fully walled, mediaeval City of Lucca which is a wonderful day out. Pisa is around 90 minutes, and Florence under 2 hours. The tiny city of Barga with its windy cobbled streets, outdoor music and numerous restaurants is a 30 minute drive. This house is set in the depths of the country and is fairly remote in many respects, set down winding country roads, but if relaxing, picnicking and having a dip become too much then there is still the opportunity for sightseeing.
Rosita and Chiara have restored this family home built by Rosita's grandfather at the turn of the last century keeping all the original features and family heirlooms. We live in nearby Col dei Rossi and are always at hand for solutions, advise on how to get the most out of house and area and personal anecdotes attached to both. We look forward to welcoming you in person to Casina Rosita just give us an estimated time of arrival and we will be there.
Private house in peaceful rural setting with nice community of neighbors to offer advice and the occasional glass of wine!
The property was old, full of character and beautiful in every way. The setting was remarkable, nestled in green mountains with extensive views. The house itself was very, very clean and very well-equipped. Rosita, the owner was extremely kind and made sure we had everything we needed. Do beware of the journey. It is very high up in the mountains and very windy. The first couple of trips were quite daunting but we soon got used to it even thugh we did have a pretty rubbish rental car. Don't let it put you off but be prepared for a windy, steep trip. Castigione, the nearest small town/village is beautiful and 15 minutes drive.There is a decent supermarket and lovely roof-top café as well as a castle and the usual wonderful stone houses and streets. Lucca is only a hour away and Pisa an hour and a half. Arrival date says September but we were actually there for the last week of August 2016.
The place was wonderful… everything was perfect as in description very helpful host. The pool was very clean and well looked after in a discreet manner by owner.
The house is quite secluded and in an area where you can do walks if hammock/pizza oven, lazing by the pool or in the shade is too tiring!
From the start to the end of our 3 week stay the property was delightful.
Set in the Tuscany hills although very remote well worth the effort once you are there.
We found during our stay that everything we needed to enjoy our holiday was provided by the owners. The local supermarkets were adequately provisioned for all our needs.
The owners were very attentive looking after the pool and any other needs we may have had during our stay.
If you enjoy being away from the crowds and like your privacy in a beautiful environment you should give this property a look.
Beautiful location, welcoming and helpful hosts, a charming Italian getaway. If you are looking to relax in a peaceful location then this property is worth a look as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Special interest holidays:
Ideal for hiking / horse-riding / skiing / fishing
There are various seaside destinations, but the most famous are:
Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi; the distance on the map is fairly short, but this is deceiving in view of the winding roads. There is a mountain route to Forte Dei Marmi signposted from Castelnuovo and this road will take you about 1h 10 minutes.
Monterosso, which is part of the famous Cinque Terre, is a very beautiful coastal area, but it's a bit difficult to reach by car, so it's better to go by train.
Casina Rosita is 1 hour and 30 minutes from Pisa Airport. Car hire strongly recommended.
Trains are geared for locals, so tend to be early morning, and early evening for commuters.
Castiglione Garfagnana (about 4 km away);
Orecchiella (about 10 km away);
Sillico (about 16,5 km away);
San Romano and the Fortress at Verrucole (about 18 km);
Vagli (about 30 km);
Grotta del Vento (about 33 km away);
Orrido di Botri (about 51 km away);
Lucca (about 43 km away);
Pisa (about 75 km away);
Siena (about 196 km away);
Florence (about 130 km away).
In Castiglione Garfagnana there is a little market, one restaurant, pizzeria, some bar, one pharmacy, one bank, post office.
Shopping: Castelnuovo has a varied selection of shops for most needs.
Supermarkets: There are supermarkets in Castelnuovo, Pieve Fosciana and Gallicano.
