Beautifully renovated 1850s detached stone cottage, one minute walk to the local pub, countryside views from the garden, easily accessible to footpaths and cycle routes. Sleeps 4/5. We love staying in our cottage in Winster as it is such a relaxing place to be. We have furnished it to be comfortable and inviting. In 2018 we have undergone a further refurbishment including a new lounge and stair carpet. We also welcome well behaved pets - no extra charge. There is so much to do in this area - Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock - Heights of Abraham etc, before you even start exploring the exciting countryside around - the White Peak (where Winster is) and the easily accessible Dark Peak. We have enjoyed numerous country walks and cycles - particularly along the fabulous off-road cycle trails that Derbyshire has to offer - the Peak Trail and Tissington Trail are very near to Winster. It is also only 45 minutes drive to Alton Towers so easily accessible for a day out!

About Linda Moon
We are Linda and David and have two children and a mad English Springer spaniel called Sally. We have owned East Bank Cottage since 2010 and have had many enjoyable stays here.
Linda Moon purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Linda Moon chose Winster
Beautiful area, good central location. The village of Winster sold itself to us when we visited! It has a lovely feeling about it and is very friendly with great amenities such as the village shop and pubs. Great location for enjoying outdoor pursuits - walking, cycling, rock climbing etc but also plenty of interesting places to visit: Heights of Abraham, Chatsworth, Crich tramway museum, Blue John Caves. We have also enjoyed joining in the village activities: pancake race day, Winster wakes (annual carnival), secret gardens.
What makes this Cottage unique
We find the village of Winster very welcoming and enjoy our stays here, whether it is a relaxing short stroll from the house, a more challenging hill walk, cycling the numerous off-road cycle tracks which are great for the children or enjoying the good fare in the Old Bowling Green. There are plenty of activities/places to visit which we have enjoyed such as Crich tramway museum where we love riding the old trams, Chatsworth, cable cars upto the Heights of Abraham or a day out for the kids at Gullivers Land.

Gorgeous Cottage Central to a Peak District Holiday
Charming cottage in the beautiful village of Winster, central to exploring the Peak District (and Alton Towers for the kids). Great restaurant just down the hill from the cottage open Thursday - Sunday.
Thank you for your lovely review and so glad you had a good stay and enjoyed the Peak District and surrounding areas. Hope to welcome you again. Linda
Nice property in great location
Cosy cottage, well equipped and stones through from nearest pub !
Thank you for your review, glad you enjoyed your stay!
Really let down by inside decor and cleanliness
Whole cottage decor is tired and in need of refreshing. Several damp patches upstairs which produced a musty smell. Stair carpet very worn on risers giving a scruffy look. Some basic kitchen implements missing - food tongs for use with grill, sharp knives (small and large for chopping and carving). Some crockery with chips in it. Found old food in one cupboard - stale mince pie, wizened apple and open pack of soggy snacks. Some parts of cottage were clean others not so. Good heating system with lots of hot water and cottage looks nice from outside.
Thank you for your review. I'm glad you found the heating system good with lots of hot water.
I was very shocked about the comments on the old food and cleaning plus missing items and am very sorry about that. As a result of this we have now changed to a new cleaning company.
We have also undergone a refurbishment since your stay with new kitchen items and decor.
beds so comfy
Great little cottage
Very well laid out little cottage. Nice bathroom. Good sized kitchen. Efficient heating system. My only complaint was that the duvets were thin and small and there seemed to be no blankets (apart from some throws downstairs) to compensate. A small investment in some better quality duvets and maybe some bedspreads or blankets too would help. I am quite tall and my feet stuck of the end. The kids said they were a bit cold too. Otherwise a great place to stay in a very nice village.
Charming but basic
Charming cottage in a lovely village. Smaller than expected though and quite basic.
Travel: The nearest airports are Manchester (70 minutes) and East Midlands (60 minutes). There are nearby train stations in Matlock and Cromford - it is a short taxi ride to the cottage. Distances: Matlock - 6 miles Bakewell - 6 miles Cromford - 6 miles Alton Towers - 26 miles Further Details: The village shop is well stocked and open daily. There is a Sainsbury's supermarket in Matlock. The village has two pubs which both serve food and there are many pubs in surrounding villages plus restaurants in Matlock and Bakewell. There are also several takeaways that will deliver to the village.
