In The Heart Of Coed Y Brenin Forest A Stunning Location With Panoramic Views

Bedrooms 2
Half Baths1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

A beautiful 2 bedroom cottage in a tranquil, rural location off the beaten track, yet only a short drive to Dolgellau or the coast.

We want everyone who stays with us to have a lovely time and don't want anyone to be disappointed. It is important to us that you have an accurate picture of where you are coming to stay. If you have an aversion to wellies, don't like animals, or are hoping for indoor swimming pools and a jacuzzi, then we are probably not for you. To find us you have to drive up a single track tarmac road through the forest for three quarters of a mile and then up a short track to the farm. You don't need a 4x4 - standard saloon cars are fine - but you might want to leave the Maserati in the garage.

The cottage has everything that you will need for your stay apart from your food of course, but we can help you out with eggs and other produce from the farm if needed.

The ground floor of the cottage has a very welcoming feel, with lots of character. The kitchen/living area is open plan with a separate shower room. There are two cosy bedrooms upstairs, with original oak beams, the master bedroom with a king size bed and the other with two single beds which can be fitted side by side to create another double.

The farm is a working small holding with 30 acres of flower rich meadows and oak woodland. We don't have any close neighbours and looking out from the elevated position of the farm you can't see any other signs of habitation. Look north west to the ridge of the northern Rhinog or south to the most uninterrupted view of the Cader Idris range that you are likely to see.

The farm is surrounded by Forestry Commission land, so you can roam freely beyond our boundary, wherever and whenever you want. Despite our remote feel, we are only five minutes drive from Ganllwyd village and fifteen minutes from the historical market town of Dolgellau, giving you the best of both worlds.

If you appreciate nature and wild places, love walking or riding and want to escape for a while to somewhere peaceful and tranquil, then we think you will enjoy your stay here.

We are 'dog friendly' for 'friendly dogs' ! There are various critters wandering around the farm, so all we ask is that you keep your dog on its lead when you are in the 'livestock zone'. It's a short step from our fields into the forest where you've got miles of trails to explore - and no traffic to worry about.

About John & Tyr Pinder

What brought us to Cefndeuddwr was a desire to escape to somewhere quiet and secluded where we could live in a low impact way by growing a few vegetables and keeping a few animals. We both appreciate wild places and nature, and enjoy the ever changing landscape that surrounds us.

The farm is also home to the pottery workshop where Tyr makes a variety of functional ware and creative pieces.

Why John & Tyr Pinder chose Ganllwyd

Cefndeuddwr is quite an extraordinary place and moving here over twenty years ago saw the start of a 'life project' . The farm sits on the top of a ridge between two river valleys so benefits from wonderful panoramic views. The traditional stone and slate buildings are of historical importance and were all built between the 1500's and 1700's. The farm had been neglected for many years so its taken a lot of time and effort to get to this point - and there's still more to do !

Despite the scale of the project there has always been something uplifting about being here. The place has a remote, wild feel to it and the views are stunning. The area is rich in wildlife and living in the heart of the forest provides us with acres of space beyond our boundary to explore.

What makes this cottage unique

Most visitors comment on the peace and tranquility here and the freedom of the open space. Many hardly ever use their cars once they've arrived, preferring to explore the area on foot or by bike. Others are content simply to unwind at the cottage, enjoy a good book or have a camp fire in the evening. It's a great place for children to visit with places to explore and adventures to be made.

Coed y Brenin forest has something for everyone. It boasts some of the best mountain biking trails in the UK; numerous walking and running trails; spectacular waterfalls and river valleys; fascinating history; and a fifteen minute walk down the hill gets you to the forest visitors centre.

On the doorstep we have great mountain walking, beautiful estuaries, beaches and historical towns.

We have had an amazing week here,John & Tyr are so helpful and friendly and Rosco's welcome was so lovely. The cottage is beautiful, the views are stunning. We didn't want to leave. The visitors centre is fantastic, walks and bike tracks for all abilities. We hired bikes from there and they were great, we had a lot of fun. So many walks straight from the front door. The waterfalls walk is superb. Beach near by Barmouth had a dog friendly section and was lovely. Thank you for a great holiday and look forward to coming back.PS thank you for the eggs they made a lovely breakfast.

Absolutely stunning!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautifully restored and it has all the creature comforts that you might need. Not that you will use them much because you’ll want to be outside enjoying the views and fresh air because this is an absolutely stunning location and none of the pictures can truly do it justice.

It provided the perfect base for our mountain biking and walking and the Coed y Brenin mountain bike trails (as well as many gorgeous walks) can be accessed via the farm (on foot or bike) so there’s not even a need to load up the car again if you don’t want to.

The owners John, Tyr (and Rosco) are lovely people and they were always happy to help if we needed anything, including advice about the local area.

As exhausted as she was, even our dog didn’t want to leave! She’d just sit there staring down the valley at the mountains and probably wishing, like us, that we lived there.

If you want to enjoy the countryside and the peace, quiet and stunning views then this is the place for you.

Absolutely Perfect

What a fantastic place. Perfect location and facilities. Our little boy, Daniel asked if he thought they'd sell it as he didn't want to leave! Lovely owners, eggs left for us on arrival and a lovely dog to welcome us when we came back which was a big hit with Daniel. We are going back soon for another weekend of heaven 😊 Spot on for everything we wanted 😊

Lovely, peaceful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We did enjoy every moment staying there. From very beginning until our leave. We arrived quite late approx. 10pm. The owner welcomed us and showed around the facilities. Since we were coming do to some mountain biking we asked would it be possible to leave late afternoon on Sunday after coming back from the cycling. The owner kindly confirmed and said this is not the problem at all on this occasion because there was no one arriving after us. The owners were very friendly and helpful. In the morning they gave us some fresh eggs. It was very kind of them. They were always there if we needed something.

The property is very cosy. It is a small fairy tail house in the middle of the forest.

Definitely would love to come back.

This is the second time we've stayed here and once again a fantastic place to stay, very friendly owners, nice and secluded surrounded by woodland for fantastic walks with our dog. There is an eco woodland centre near by,but not too close, where you can have a snack and some refreshing tea after a long walk.Dolgellau is a short drive away where you'll find plenty of fine places to eat and you'll find everyone very friendly, you've got to try this place if you want to get away from it all

A half hour drive will get you to the unspoilt and quiet beaches of the coast of west Wales. There are extensive sandy beaches at Fairbourne, Barmouth and north towards Harlech.

The nearest airports are Liverpool and Manchester, both about two hours drive away. There are railway stations at Fairbourne and Barmouth, so if you don't drive or simply wanted a holiday break without the car, we can pick you up from either railway station by prior arrangement.

The village of Ganllwyd is 1 mile away and the historic town of Dolgellau a further 3 miles. Barmouth is a pretty seaside town 12 miles away at the point where the Mawddach estuary meets the sea. The town of Harlech 6 miles north of Barmouth is dominated by the impressive castle ,set on a bluff overlooking Cardigan bay.

Further Details:

Dolgellau is a small, stone built market town with a variety of shops in the town square. There are two supermarkets, high street banks with cash points, several restaurants and pubs and a post office. The town has a long history of attracting tourists many of whom come to walk up Cader Idris, the impressive mountain overlooking the town.
