Helpful, friendly but not intrusive. Just ask.
Jac purchased this Cottage in 1998
Why Jac chose Hastings District
The Retreat has been very successfully let out since April 1999 with many people returning many times. One couple have come back every year since 2001!
What makes this Cottage unique
You should feel relaxed and miles away from the 'hulaballoo' as The Retreat is set back over 35 yards from the village road. Having said that it is only a short walk to the local inn/restaurant, hairdresser's/café, post office and butcher's. Our guests are very happy with the location, accommodation, and what is provided at the property. They 'want for nothing'. We lived at The Retreat for a year whilst building our house - maybe that is something to do with it as no white goods/hardware etc were removed when we moved into the house.

My husband and I and 2 friends booked the retreat for 3 nights over Easter and boy are we glad we did. Phil met us on arrival and showed us into the property. It was so nice and clean and had everything you could possible need. Lovely comfy beds too. We were greeted by an Easter Egg, a bottle of wine, cakes and tea/coffee etc. which was a lovely surprise. The views are amazing and the Geese and gosling are entertaining to watch. We went over for a sandwich and pint at the Two Sawyers (dead opposite) when we arrived and enjoyed it so much we booked to go back for dinner on the Friday night. We had a lovely meal and the place and staff are so welcoming. There are many leaflets in the Retreat with ideas of what to do in the area, we visited Rye which is so pretty (and the sun shone). We had a lovely cream tea in the Cobbles Tea Room (highly recommend) then went onto Battle which again is well worth a visit. On the Sunday we visited The Caves in Hastings then visited The Old Pump House for a pint in a pub which has so much character (you feel like you are in a smugglers pub) and we even went back and ate Sunday Roast, good value at £7.95 and very tasty.
The Wifi at The Retreat does keep going in and out but my husband found if you rebooted it, it was fine and there were 4 of us using it.
Phil was most helpful with any information you required, unfortunately we did not get to meet Jac but maybe next time.
We had an amazing stay and will definitely return if we are visiting the area again and we will highly recommend The Retreat to anyone else.

What a lovely review Julie, thank you very much.
I am sorry that we did not get to meet, maybe another time.
A Truly Peaceful Retreat
A very comfortable holiday home which had everything we could possibly need.
Great location with a decent pub within walking distance and another good pub further away in the same village (can highly recommend the Sunday Roast in the second pub) .
We visited several National Trust properties in the local area and discovered a few hidden gems.
Over all , a great place to stay.
Thank you for your very positive review of The Retreat. You were excellent guests and are most welcome to return at any time.
A Serene Stay
We stayed in this cottage for 7 days. The hosts were very cordial and welcoming. The home was cozy, well-equipped, with very good kitchen appliances and a comfortable bed and nice linens—also plenty of storage space for clothing. The home is located in a peaceful setting and has convenient parking.
There were many interesting historical and scenic attractions around the area.
The only shortcomings were that the internet was intermittently very weak and could only support one device for emails. Also, the air fresheners/potpourri throughout the house were a little too strong. The problem was easily solved by removing them.
We would definitely recommend this cottage and would stay here again.
Thank you very much for your positive and constructive review. You would be most welcome at The Retreat anytime.
The Retreat Pett
Just back from a very enjoyable week at the Retreat. ThE accomodation is excellent and well positioned for visiting the area. There is also good walking on the doorstep. The Two Sawyers pub opposite provides excellent food and is very friendly. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your very kind review, which will be useful to potential future guests, and also for leaving The Retreat so clean and tidy.
You are most welcome to return anytime.
Lovely place to stay with very friendly and help full owners.
Peaceful location and handy for visiting Hastings
Lovely quiet and deceptively spacious 'retreat' with everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed having breakfast and bbqs on the large decking, watching the antics of the geese and catching the setting sun in the private garden. Pett level beach is only minutes away and well worth a visit to explore at low tide. Very handy having the Two Sawyers for excellent roast just past the owners house. A great opportunity to holiday with 2 grown up daughters.
Thank you for your very positive and constructive review. It was a pleasure to meet you all and you would be very welcome back at The Retreat anytime.
