Ideal retreat for 2 people. Woodpeckers has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard with underfloor heating throughout and a secluded patio garden. The covered private entrance is easily accessed from the parking area and leads into spacious but cosy accommodation. Situated in a quiet area only a 5 minute walk to the centre of Town and 15 minutes to the picturesque estuary. Kingsbridge has many interesting independent shops and excellent restaurants and pubs. It is ideally positioned to explore the South Hams, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. There are many lovely sandy beaches nearby and the coastal walks are spectacular. There is a very good bus service from the quayside which is ideal for walkers and those who wish to let the bus “take the strain”. If you are into sports, there are good local golf courses nearby, paddle boarding on the estuary and plenty of places to fish. There is a leisure centre in the town and local tennis courts.

About Elisabeth Gates
We are Liz and Mick and moved from Surrey to Kingsbridge in 2003. The area was always special to us and when we decided to retire, it was the obvious choice. We purchased a lovely Georgian house in the town, and ran a successful B & B business for a number of years. Both our children and families followed us down to the area and we now spend time with them and our 4 grandchildren when we can. When not playing golf at Bigbury Golf Club we enjoy our lovely, peaceful, garden and the spectacular views over Kingsbridge.
Elisabeth Gates purchased this Apartment in 2011
Why Elisabeth Gates chose Kingsbridge
Having spent 8 years running the B&B we thought a move to a modern Eco property would be more appropriate to our advancing years. So in 2010 we purchased 10 Fosse Road, demolished the existing bungalow and embarked on building "Woodpeckers". Were we mad at our age? Yes, is probably the right answer! However, now the building is finished we can appreciate all the benefits of modern technology. We always wanted to stay in Kingsbridge and this property is in a quiet area has wonderful views and is in close proximity to the town, shops and restaurants.
What makes this Apartment unique
Woodpeckers is ideally located, in Kingsbridge, for exploring the whole of the South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a good bus service from the Quayside and The Rivermaid offers boat trips to Salcombe. There are many lovely beaches nearby and the nearest one is only a ten minute drive from Kingsbridge. There are also good golf courses in the area and tennis courts at the Recreation Ground. We have tried to cater for all your needs and provide all that is necessary for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and we offer free WIFI, Digital TV and SKY TV with Sports. . We have ample off road parking space and the accommodation offers external patio areas to enjoy alfresco dining. All the amenities of Kingsbridge are within walking distance.

Lovely,spacious,spotless, modern,quiet,convenient for Kingsbridge,real home from home.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Woodpeckers, delightful apartment with everything you could need. Ideal location for Kingsbridge centre with its many shops and supermarkets, brilliant bus station and the Quay. Liz and Mick were the perfect hosts, always there if we needed them. The weather was very kind to us. We hope to visit again sometime and would definitely recommend to family and friends. Thank you Liz and Mick for letting us share your home.
Excellent apartment for 2 people. Comfortable living in modern surroundings.
The apartment is an annexe to the main property but is self-contained and private. The owners live on site and are very helpful without being intrusive. It is clean and comfortable for two people with decent sized rooms and a very comfortable bed. The shower is just like home! Our only criticism is that the location is very hilly and what goes downhill has to come back up so a car is essential unless you are fit. All in all we had great week and were very happy with the accommodation.
Great place for couples
Modern, spotless, great location and helpful, friendly hosts
Excellent modern accommodation
Lovely APARTMENT for two - VERY HIGH standard with everything thought of. Nice quiet location within short walk to kingsbridge town centre and close enough to visit salcombe, Dartmouth etc.
Would definitely recommend.
Warm & welcoming apartment for two
Liz and Mick are very welcoming hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Woodpecker's had everything we needed for our week-long holiday. The apartment itself is spotlessly clean, warm and cosy - in fact, we felt at home within 30 minutes of arriving. The kitchen has a fantastic induction hob, excellent oven, fridge and a dishwasher. Having such a lovely kitchen saved us from having to eat in Kingsbridge every evening.
Woodpecker's is situated about 10 minutes walk from Kingsbridge town centre, which we loved. It isn't a commercial town and the people are very friendly. We enjoyed the Creek Inn and the Seven Stars. We also caught the bus into Salcombe one day and had lunch in the Crab Shed. We can recommend all of these places.
Being National Trust members, we also visited Overbeck's, Buckland Abbey, Coleton Fishacre and South Milton Sands. Buckland was the furthest at an hour in the car, so as you can see, Woodpecker's is an ideal base for getting out and about.
The only reason we've given this review 5 stars is because we can't give it 10...! We would highly recommend Woodpecker's for a relaxing stay in South Devon and we will definitely return.
Beautiful, very charming apartment! Kitted out with everything you could possibly need! We loved it!
My boyfriend and I stayed at the apartment for 5 days in April and we absolutely loved it! With its charm and its relaxing decor throughout, its gorgeous kitchen kitted out with everything you could possibly need and its lovely shower (ooh I did like the shower!!!), it really is the perfect place to stay. Much love has gone into the place, you can tell when you walk in and note all the lovely little touches. We felt so at home and were sad to leave it behind! Sadly the weather was not very kind to us so we weren't able to sit out and really enjoy the private patio 'nook' with its table and chairs for two which was a shame as it was just beautiful out there with the shrubs and flowers. Liz and Mick were wonderful hosts and it was a pleasure to meet them. What more can I say? To Liz and Mick: thank you for welcoming us in April. We hope to see you again soon! x
Coast/Beach: There are many great beaches within 30mins driving time including Bigbury with Burgh Island just off shore and walkable at low tide. Try a pint at the Pilchard Inn. Blackpool Sands is popular but there is a charge. Some local beaches offer free parking to National Trust members and a favourite is South Milton only a 15 minute drive from Kingsbridge. Salcombe also has lovely beaches. Travel: If you want to see the area a car is not essential but recommended. However, a double decker bus ride to Totnes or Dartmouth from the town offers extensive views not available from a car. Exeter Airport is 1 hour from Kingsbridge and the nearest train station is Totnes (from London Paddington). Distances: A favourite day out is a visit to Salcombe for it's shopping and spectacular scenery. It's about 6 miles and 15 mins in a car and can also be reached by ferry via Kingsbridge Estuary. Other places of interest include the historic town of Dartmouth with it's naval heritage(15miles). Totnes is 12 miles away and has much to offer including Dartington Cider Press. Dartmoor is 15 miles away. Further Details: Kingsbridge has a good selection of local independent shops and all the usual banking facilities. There are two main Supermarkets, Morrisons and Tesco. The Tourist Information Centre is located on the quay and we can supply details of local restaurants and pubs. Whatever the taste, Kingsbridge has it !.
