Stockwell Hall Cottage is a self catering holiday cottage located on the edge of the Caldbeck fells on the northern boundary of the Lake District, an ideal situation to suit many different types of break at any time of year, including winter break.

The cottage has been converted from an 18th century Grade II listed barn in a sympathetic way to combine its original character and charm with relaxing comfort. We have converted it to the highest standards with special care and attention to detail. It is spacious and well equipped with many of the furnishings from Laura Ashley.

Set in the pleasant surroundings of a smallholding you have the opportunity to see the animals and wildlife close up and gives you space to relax, unwind and enjoy the beautiful Cumbrian countryside.

The cottage has been awarded the highest rating of 5 star Gold Award by Visit Britain. There is a patio which over-looks a large lawned garden, ideal for watching the children enjoying fun and games in a safe environment or just put the hustle and bustle of a busy life behind you and take a few moments to appreciate the peace and tranquillity that nature has to offer.

The local pub is within easy walking distance, less than half a mile away for anyone who would like a meal washed down with a pint of ale in a country pub in the evening. We are on the edge of the Cumbrian Way and only a short drive from Northern Lake District. The Solway coast is not far away as is the border city of Carlisle and Hadrians wall. The Scottish border is only 35 minutes away where you will find Gretna Green and the world famous Old Blacksmiths Shop.

A warm welcome awaits you and enjoy our welcome pack after your journey in the lovely surroundings of Stockwell Hall Cottage.

The cottage sleeps six people plus a cot if required, there is an out-house where bikes can be securely stored. We have installed a biomass boiler which keeps the house warm all year round and also plenty of hot water. This has replaced our oil heating and uses renewable heat sources. We have also made a shed into a drying room which is ideal for drying coats, boots, etc. after a hard days walking.

A truly fandabidozy cottage run by an extremely smashing family! We could not fault anything, will be recommending to any friends and will be back for sure! Thank you.



Wish we could stay a few more days! we've had a really relaxing time. The barn is so comfortable, you have really gone the extra mile to think of all the little extra touches to make a special week. The cake was delicious and snowdrops a reminder spring is not far away. We are so pleased we found this lovely place and hope we can return again sometime. Thank you.



Our second visit to "Stockwell" and it was another lovely holiday! We really enjoyed ourselves and will be back soon.

Notes on accommodation: The cottage is immaculately presented with co-ordinated fabric and linen throughout and maintained ourselves the owners to our own high standards, we live next door and are always pleased to help and answer any questions. The cottage is always warm, heated throughout by central heating running off a biomass boiler (renewable heat source) with all fuel and electricity included. Outside: Doors from the kitchen open onto a private patio with table, chairs and a barbecue is provided. A large lawned garden with fruit trees a seat and loungers joins the patio and is ideal for recreation or relaxing. There is private parking for three cars on graveled park outside the front door. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen and towels are provided and are changed weekly. Other: There is a drying room available in an out house ideal for drying coats, boots and laundry.

All you could want and more!

I have stayed in many different holiday cottages & this one was by far and away the very best! Beautifully decorated with Laura Ashley furnishings, extremely well equipped & little extras provided such as homemade cake & wine! Fantastic surroundings where the children loved running around in the huge garden & seeing all the farm animals. We were made to feel extremely welcome as soon as we arrived. The best holiday cottage we've ever stayed in & will definitely be back!

Stockwell Hall Cottage is ideally located close to Caldbeck in the northern Lake District on the edge of the Cumbrian fells and near the quaint villages of Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket. The Cumbrian Way and river Caldew are close by and not too far away are the mountain peaks of Blencathra and Skiddaw from which the views are outstandingly magnificent. Bassenthwaite, Ullswater and Derwentwater are only a short drive away. Also within easy reach of Keswick and the border city of Carlisle.

Further Details:

Local shops can be found at Hesket Newmarket (3 miles), Caldbeck (4 miles) and Dalston (5 miles) having a small supermarket, butcher and bakery. There is a good selection of local pubs serving food, nearest 1/2 a mile away. Larger shops, banks, restaurants etc. can be found in Carlisle and Penrith.
