Stone Green Oast is a traditional square kiln oast converted to comfortable holiday accommodation. This is an "upside-down" house. Steps lead up to the main entrance upstairs where there is an open-plan sitting and dining room and a separate well equipped kitchen. An open engineered spiral staircase leads downstairs to the bathroom and bedrooms (1 double and one twin). The master bedroom has french doors which lead up a short flight of steps to the pretty enclosed garden. Outside there is good quality garden furniture, a barbeque and secure storage for bikes. 2 adult bikes are available for use by guests. The property is situated on the Saxon Shoreway, in a quiet hamlet, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 3/4 mile from the nearest public house. The nearest shop is 2 miles away in Appledore and the Cinque Port market town of Tenterden is 7 miles. The ancient town of Rye, which has an open-air market on Thursdays, is 5 miles away. The property is ideally situated to explore the wide variety of activities that Kent and Sussex coast offer. The owners will be here to greet you upon arrival, and a generous welcome pack of local produce is provided.
We moved to Stone in Oxney a few years ago with our five children and four dogs. All our children have grown up and moved away now, so we decided to make the oast available as a holiday cottage. We enjoy staying in holiday cottages ourselves, and know how difficult it can be to find the right one, especially if you have dogs. We aim to offer you a hospitable welcome and comfortable stay, with everything you need to make it your own.
We love it here, and hope that you will too.
Amanda Button purchased this cottage in 2009
We moved here because of its proximity to the beautiful countryside in Kent and East Sussex, and its closeness to the sea. There are lots of enjoyable walks for the dogs, as well as good cycle routes, usually with a decent pub nearby! There is always something going on, but plenty of peace and quiet as well. Camber Sands is only a few miles away, as are the loveliest small towns in Kent and East Sussex, such as Rye and Tenterden.
This a traditional Kent oast, with a square kiln and a moving cowl pointing out the wind direction. We hope that you will enjoy the high standard of furnishings at Stone Green Oast, the spacious enclosed garden and, above all, the unique character of the property. With just two bedrooms, it is cosy and comfortable. The upstairs reception rooms are beautifully converted with oak flooring and balustrading, and a fantastic spiral staircase which is not out of place with the traditional oak beams that can be found throughout. Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement, and two adult cycles are available for exploring the surrounding countryside.
'Perfect! Wonderful, peaceful stay. Thank you for thinking of everything - the goodies were great from the farm shop and can't believe that it was like home from home. Garden was great for the dogs. We loved Rye and Camber Sands. Ferry Inn was lovely too. Hope to come back again! Best self catering accommodation we have stayed in in UK.'
'The cottage is in a wonderful place to wake up in and return to after a day out. It feels very warm and homely. It has just about everything you could need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We have really appreciated all the thought and effort that has gone into the creation of this wonderful holiday home! We were also pleasantly surprised by the lovely gift of local produce, we really enjoyed the cake and freshly baked bread after our journey! Thank you so much for your kindness and for our lovely stay at your beautiful cottage!'
'We've had a lovely stay in this delightful cottage. Thank you for the warm welcome, we would certainly stay again.'
We have been to many cottages in the UK and this is, by far the most well equipped we have come across. Amanda gave us a wonderful welcome on our arrival and had provided an amazing welcome pack including freshly baked bread and a delicious home made cake. Unfortunately we couldn't take advantage of the walks around the village as our golden retriever had hurt her leg but the footpaths were very close and must have had amazing views. We were only at the Oast for 3 nights but we came away feeling much more relaxed than when we arrived. Thank you Amanda.
We stayed for 3 nights at the Oast house a part of a larger UK vacation. We found the home beautiful, super clean, large, and very comfortable. Our hostess (Amanda) greeted us as we arrived, and was most helpful and cheerful. She left us a wonderful welcome basket, complete with her own baked breads, butter, jam, eggs, cheese, cider, beer, and juice. The location is remote, but beyond peaceful and quiet. The living and dining rooms are large and bright. The kitchen was more than adequate for our needs. The bedrooms were spacious, the beds reasonably comfortable, and the shower devine! Although the home is pet friendly, I found no sign of previous occupants, which was good, as I can be allergic to pet dander and hair. As Americans not quite comfortable with driving, we were looking forward to the pub which was within walking distance. Sadly, that pub has closed, but there is a nearby pub about .4 miles away which served excellent food and drink. The Oast house is an excellent value and we would highly recommend it.
My husband and I wanted a short break with our two German Shepherds to get away from the hustle and bustle of work and what a perfect place to do it. Loads of places to walk - peace and quiet lovely and safe garden for the dogs and wow what a hostess and accommodation. There was everything you needed and Amanda left us a absolutely scrumptious Lemon Drizzle Cake - every detail for you to enjoy your stay was made for you - if you had forgotten to bring anything I can guarantee you will find it in a cupboard or draw. Thoroughly relaxing just a shame we had to leave on the Monday to go back to work - will definitely be back - THANK YOU AMANDA
Staying early October, the oast was warm and very comfortable. Humans and dogs felt very welcome, and exceptionally well provided for. This is a top of the range selfcatering cottage, in an area with castles, gardens, small towns and countryside all well worth visiting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
This is a lovely property with a lovely garden which my dog enjoyed. It is well equipped and we loved the welcome pack of bread and cake etc. The owners are lovely and friendly. It is well placed to tour around and we loved the trip to dungeness on the miniature steam railway. Would really recommend the Oast house.
The Oast is beautifully converted and comfortable. Kitchen one of the best equipped we've stayed in - even the knives were sharp! Owners are next door - very friendly and helpful but not in any way obtrusive. Generous welcome pack and basic provisions, cleaning materials all provided. Stone is small and quiet, good local walks from the property. Nearby Appledore has well-stocked small shop and post office. Tenterden and Rye have supermarkets and are well worth a visit anyway. 15 minutes to Camber Sands. It is also a good centre for wider forays such as Bodiam, Battle (950th anniversary of Battle of Hastings so lots on) and Canterbury. Would thoroughly recommend.
The beautiful beach at Camber Sands is 9 miles away. Hastings is 17 miles.
We are approximately 1 hours drive from Dover and 45 minutes from the Channel Tunnel. Gatwick Airport is approximately 60 miles.
Use of a car is essential.
The nearest shop is 2 miles away in Appledore and the delightful Cinque Port market town of Tenterden is 7 miles. The ancient town of Rye is 5 miles away. Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells and Hastings are all within 1 hours drive.
The nearest shop is 2 miles away. The nearest supermarkets, banks etc are in Tenterden and Rye. There are also many good restaurants in Tenterden and Rye, and we have lots of welcoming, dog-friendly pubs in the area. The award winning Chapeldown Vineyard, with its excellent restaurant The Swan, is only 15 minutes drive from us. We are well situated for gardens such as Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and Batemans.
