Cottage, Camber Sands, Nr. Rye, East Sussex, England - Peaceful, Location Just Metres From The Beach

No. 5 is a quiet place set in relative wilderness but within easy reach of local amenities and bus routes. Camber Sands is less than a mile away and the beautiful cinque port town of Rye is a 5 mile walk or short drive away. The cottage is ideally suited to family groups with children or a maximum of six adults and is just yards from Broomhill Sands which has a shingle beach at high tide and clean sand and shallow water at low tide. The cottage itself has been recently refurbished and renovated to provide comfortable accomodation, with all the modern facilities you'd expect. It has a raised deck to the back looking over the military ranges to Dungeness where you will be able to see many rabbits, bird and animal life. To the front of the cottage is a large garden, with table and chairs, Chimenea and BBQ facilities. No. 5 also has a garage where you can store all your water sports equipment safely. Inside the property is ample living space with 3-4 bedrooms (4th bedroom/cinema room or den for the kids). The cottage has WiFi, DVDs and many fun board games. Nearby is the Kitesurf Centre where you can learn all kinds of water sports and the off road cycle path which runs from Rye to Lydd. There are of course many coastal and inland walks right from the door. A short drive away are many renowned Golf Courses and The Romney Hythe and Dymchurch miniature railway. Pets accepted upon request, (extra cleaning charge of £30 per week.)

Both my husband and I have been coming to the Camber and Rye area for many years, in my husbands case since he was an art student many years ago. We always took our children down to the beach here when they were very little, so when we had the opportunity of completely renovating a beautiful Victorian coastguard cottage right on the beach we naturally jumped at the chance.

Why nicky gittins chose Kent

We love the vastness of the sky and the wildness of this particular end of the beach. It is generally very quiet, sometimes there are only rabbits and birds about. It really is our bolt hole, somewhere to escape from it all and relax.

What makes this cottage unique

The nature and the peacefulness of the area are obvious benefits of being here, We love the fact that you can do everything straight from the door, swimming, fishing, beach combing, cycling, walking. Our children love being here and have started to learn various water sports too.

Notes on accommodation: The property has a garage which can be used to safely store any water sport equipment or bikes. There are also children's bikes, swing ball, deck chairs and beach windbreaks for your use. The MOD military ranges are used by the army as a firing range and occasionaly you may be able to hear them in the distance as they practice. Outside: Outside the cottage has a garden and large meadow area, there is an outside table and chairs, BBQ and Chimenea, and a wood shed. At the back of the house is a raised decking balcony with bistro table and chairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included at the property. It is cleaned for your arrival and when you leave. Beach towels are not provided. There is an extra cleaning charge of £30 per week for dogs. Other: Dining room has table and chairs for 8 people, wood burner, Freeview TV DVD, radio, ipod/telephone docking station for music. WiFi.

The perfect cottage...

I could easily write about 10 pages of how nice this property is! Full of character, clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated and really retaining a lovely cosy feel. Everything there you could possibly need, including dvd's and games. Just bring your clothes and toothbrush! You get a real sense that the owners love and enjoy their own property and want you to as well. Nicky the owner was easily contactable and sent lots of helpful messages before our stay. We absolutely loved our stay here and I'll definitely be back. Incidentally one of the best showers I've ever used and the comfiest bed! Highly recommend x

What A Treat!

We had a wonderful short break here in early July...the owner Nicky is on hand from the minute you book your trip to answer any questions and provide lots of useful info about the house and surrounding area. The location is stunning, set just off of the coast road with a gorgeous, wide sandy beach less than a minutes walk away. The house itself surpassed our expectations... beautifully, tastefully decorated with bags of room, it was spotlessly clean and came equipped with everything we could have ever needed to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as it could've possibly been (and incidentally, no noise at all from the adjacent MoD range, even on the days the flags were up). So pleased I found this place, loved it and will definitely be back!

Perfect Bank Holiday

This cottage was the perfect retreat. The decoration made it very easy to feel right at home and the owner's were so helpful with places to eat and things to do we could really hit the ground running. We would highly recommend!

Fabulous and Relaxing

We had a lovely few days staying at the cottage which was fabulous, very clean and practical, had everything you would need and in a quiet area. The owner was very helpful, happy to accept our dog and communication was great. The beach was doggy friendly, quiet and only 2 minutes walk away. Camber beach is a short drive down the road. Rye is well worth a visit and the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway from Dungeness is a good day out. We would definitely recommend this property and would love to return.

Simply Wonderful

The cottage is so amazing I would've give a six , it's so accommodating nothing has been left behind, it has every detail required for a beach holiday plus the location is great and the views are breath-taking, would recommend it to anyone.

Last but not least the owners were mazing so helpful and so accommodative, the whole experience was just a pleasure.

The beach, Broomhill Sands, is right on the door step at the bottom of the garden (approximately 70 metres), less than a minutes walk away from the house. Broomhill sands is a beautiful quiet sloping shingle beach at high tide and a sandy shallow one at low tide, perfect for children. Broomhill and Camber Sands just along the coast are certainly two of the most dramatic beaches on the South Coast and the sunsets in Spring and Autumn are really beautiful.


The cottage is approximately 30 minutes drive (21 miles) away from the M20 motorway and Ashford International with rail links to London and Eurostar service into Europe. Dover is 41 miles away (approximately 55 minutes drive) and Folkstone is slightly nearer, 34 miles away.

Gatwick Airport is 68 miles away (approximately 1 hours and 35 minutes drive away) and Manston Airport is 55 miles away (about 1 hour, 20 minutes drive away).


Rye is a 10 minute drive away and Lydd, in the other direction is an 8 minute drive. Hastings is 18 miles away (approx 30 mins in the car) and Tenterden takes about 30 minutes to get to by car.

Booking Notes:
A £300 deposit is required at time of booking, receipt of which will confirm your booking. The deposit will be forefitted if cancellation occurs after deposit paid. Full payment will be required four weeks before arrival day. A £500 security deposit is required which would be returned to you provided there is no damage or loss to the property or its contents. The cottage will available at 4pm on the day of arrival. You will need to leave by 10am on the last day of hire.

Changeover Day:
Weekly changeover day is Friday. The house is cleaned and linen/towels changed for every new group of guests. Beach towels are not provided.
