we had a good stay the weather was very bad, and had to cut the stay short due to work
nice place to stay, its a bit out of the way down a small lane, but all you need for a good holiday.
On first entering the property the wife's first comment was the damp smell, although the cottage itself was lovely and in a nice position in the garden. Although there were people in the main house we didn't have anyone welcome us, in fact on the two occasions I did see someone was when I knocked on the door to ask them to move a builders van that was blocking us in not allowing us to leave, and the noise of a mechanical digger and stone saws during the day was off putting. The owner told us of their dog which we normally don't mind, but we didn't expect to see it wander around the garden and pee up against our garden furniture....a small gate would suffice. The cottage is remote and any pubs and restaurants are found by car and not the one track lanes.
I thought it was fantastic. Great location - near to Saunton Sands, Croyde, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe etc.
I would stay again, was working from home and the wifi is very good. Thanks very much, loved it!
Lovely little garden cottage.
We loved staying at the garden cottage it was tastefully present inside and out. It was private, quiet and peaceful, good place to chill out. Devon was lovely too with great walks.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again in Devon.
A peaceful stay
Hi Ginny, Our stay was comfortable and nice and peaceful. One or two things in the bathroom (the heater, extract and shaving light) didn't work but it didn't detract from our stay. The weather was another matter (nothing could be done about that). We got out and about and enjoyed our stay. Our plan was to carry on down to our holiday home in Cornwall after our stay. We did however depart on Saturday as the forecast was pretty bleak (no reflecion on you). We did inform your daughter before we left and she was OK with that. I think we inadvertently left some clothing behind (2 pairs of shorts, and some other items). If we did I will be happy to reimburse you for any expenses incurred (and a little more for the inconvenience)
Best regards, John & Doreen Harris. Our address - 45 Witan Way, Wantage, Oxford OX12 9HB. Phone 01235 764288
Sorry about the heater in the bathroom. The extractor fan was just turned off at the main switch in the kitchen. No clothes were left behind though, we've had a thorough look.
Cracking cottage but overpriced and missed even the most basic essentials like soap, tea bags, S&P
Setting was lovely. Internet connection worked very well. If it was cheaper and come with normal basics, it would been a better buy.
Thank you Thomas, we will certainly consider your comments.
The fabulous sandy surfing beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton and Croyde are a 30-40 minute drive away. Nearer to home are the beaches around Combe Martin, just 10 minutes by car. The South West Coast Path passes nearby, a 5 minutes drive away with walks along the dramatic cliffs on the North Devon coast. Lynton and Lynmouth with the cliff railway are 20 minutes drive and the pretty seaside villages of Appledore and Clovelly are within easy reach.
The use of a car is essential as the area is rural and public transport is negligible. Exeter airport is 50 miles and Bristol about 100 miles from here. The property is about 30 miles from the M5 motorway and takes approximately 50 minutes.
The nearest shop is within walking distance but Combe Martin the nearest village is a 5 minute drive. Barnstaple, a historic market town with a pannier market and thriving high street is 10 miles away. Ilfracombe, with it's attractive harbour and spectacular 'Verity' a Damien Hirst sculpture, is also 10 miles away.
The property is set just within Exmoor National Park.
Several National Trust properties are nearby. Arlington Court has beautiful gardens, parkland, lakes and wooded hills for wandering through or striding across.
