About fran button
Mike and Fran Mike is from Chester originally and I am from East Anglia. We lived for 14 years in North Wales before buying our house in Spain and moving here in 2005, when our son was at University. We enjoy the Spanish way of life, the people, the fiestas, the fabulous food, the country walks and our animals on our land. We grow all our vegetables and barter some for firewood or fresh goat's cheese. Mike plays golf in Rio Tinto and I teach English as a second language to children and adults in the village. We love to travel and we both enjoy sports, especially football, golf, tennis and I also like yoga.

Why fran button chose Corteconcepción
Mike and I run our townhouse in Corteconcepcion. We are passionate about the people and the countryside here in the Sierras de Aracena. We love to share that passion with our guests and to ensure you have a true break away from your home. We understand that you work hard for your holiday and rural Spain is the ideal place to relax and chill. We came to live here in 2005 and now live the 'simple' life with sheep, chickens, olives and our huge vegetable garden all of which we are happy to share with guests. The house we rent out is close to our house and we are happy to help our guests when they are here and before they come if we can.
What makes this House unique
Your house is in a great location, well within walking distance to Bar Jesus and the local square. You will have your own sun trap of a terrace you are more than welcome to sit in our garden where you will feel you are in the middle of the countryside. We fell in love with the village and the people on our first visit. The people in this village are just amazing, so warm and friendly, even if you cannot speak a word of Spanish. They will stop and chat anytime of the day and there really are no language barriers here. They welcome you to local fiestas such as San Juan, with the fire jumping, or Fiesta of the Road where you can watch or join in with the Pasa Doble or Flamenco. Great fun with real charm too. If you love to walk or birdwatch the area is ideal and for those gourmets who love great food this is definitely the place to come. With the Jamon from a world winner for Great Taste located in the village you will enjoy the best. You can also take a tour of the family run 200 year old Jamon factory, still using traditional methods. The Sierra air is the key ingredient for the special flavour of the meat.

The property is very well equipped for everybody’s needs.
Fran and Mike are lovely people and very helpful in every way and go out of there way to make sure that one has a lovely holiday and the Spanish lessons were great and very much appreciated, and needed. Thanks Fran and Mike from us both, Rowlee too.
Comfortable, well equipped house, in quiet Andalucian village with private outdoor patio. The house had everything we needed and more. Great hospitality from the owners who went out of their way to make us feel at home from the moment we arrived. A good selection of bars and restaurants providing locally produced food within 5 minutes walk of the property.
Lots of interesting places to visit and villages to explore within the surrounding area. The nearby lake is a nice place for fishing, swimming and generally relaxing.
All in all, a lovely area to visit with fantastic hosts, made it a great Andalucian experience.
Couldn’t recommend it more
The first view of village is from the road above and it looks just perfect from there. As you get into the village it gets better, then you are greeted at Bar Barcina (great food) like a returning friend. It was a nice and easy drive through the typically Andalucían village streets to drop off our bags, then Mike got in the car and found a parking spot for us. The house itself is spotlessly clean and had everything you would need for your stay. It is excellently presented and perfectly appointed. Also provided was a lovely welcome pack, including wine, water, homemade bread, produce from the garden, including eggs from Fran’s hens, and some excellent homemade marmalade. We had a wonderful holiday, made even better by Mike and Fran who are perfect and generous hosts. The local walks are easy to do and there are some friendly local bars and restaurants to try. It’s hard to do the place justice in a short review so I would simply say go and stay there and enjoy.
Thanks guys for your wonderful review. We love it when people appreciate the area and have a relaxing time. We know you are having a busy time packing now but have a few things to send you by email.
Thank you for leaving your little house so clean and tidy...it makes a huge difference.
Enjoy your new home

Great Location, Great House & Fantastic Hosts
The house is located in a very quiet street; there is no passing traffic due to the narrowness of the street. All the amenities are within walking distance of the house. The nearest bar/restaurant is the La Barcina and I would whole heartedly recommend it; Anna, the owner, was genuinely welcoming.
The house is very comfortable and extremely well equipped; we particularly liked the wood burning stove although it was not cold during our stay. The cupboards were well stocked with basics and Fran & Mike had provided us with bread, milk, eggs, orange juice and beer and wine. The homemade marmalade was also excellent. There is a plethora of information about the area; maps, guide books etc. and plenty of books to read if so desired.
Fran & Mike were excellent; Fran met us on our arrival and showed us to the house. She had already arranged a jamon Iberico tour at Eirez in Corteconcepcion and contacted a vet in Aracena to administer the legally required tapeworm tablets for our dog's re-entry back into the UK. We drove to Seville but was a bit worried because driving there is a nightmare on the busy roads that filter from four lanes in to two. Mike gave me easy to follow parking instructions that made it relatively easy; he was also quick to resolve a hot water problem we encountered. We had a lovely meal with them both and Cervantes, their dog, on our last night and may have slightly over indulged with the alcohol. We had intended departing for Calais at about 6 or 7am but it after 10:00 when we hit the road.
All in all we had a very enjoyable stay in Corteconcepcion; the weather was fairly kind to us and we got out on a few walks. We completed a circular walk to Aracena on the senderos and a shorter walk from Los Marines to Fuenteheridos. We also had a drive down to lake Aracena which was also pleasant.
I would recommend the Jamon Iberico tour at Eirez in Corteconcepcion. Our English speaking guide, Jesus, was extremely knowledgeable. The jamon and wine tasting was really good.
We ate at Javiers bar/restaurant where the Solomillo was excellent.
Thanks to you both.
Ray, Margaret & Beau
Just great. A gem.
Super place to stay. Fran and Mike are most welcoming and totally helpful. Fran’s ‘take aways’, or rather ‘bought to you’ are just excellent. No problems at all and the log fire is wonderfully warming when it’s cold outside. Smashing walks. The welcome beers, wine and homemade bread were the icing on a very special cake. In short highly recommended.
Special interest holidays:
There are many stunning senderos or old mule trails across the Sierras which offer easy, medium and difficult tracks. You are welcome to use our guides and maps and we are happy to also provide walking guided tours. Along the tracks there is a multitude of bird-life to enjoy including the colourful European bee-eaters, kingfishers, eagles and kites and woodpeckers. You will also see how the black pigs live in the countryside seeking out their favourite food, the acorns. The local Iberico Jamon plant is famous for its products which are exported world wide. It offers tours in many languages where you will see the black pigs in their natural environment, how the Jamon is prepared and you will have a tasting with different types of Jamon, cheeses and wines that complement the food. We have organised a discount for our guests.
For those who enjoy Spanish food we offer cooking classes as well as dinners and breakfasts. But if you want to learn a little Spanish on your trip we are happy to give you some conversation classes. Fees for these are payable locally and are tailor made to your needs.
There are stunning beaches on the Costa de la Luz about an hour away but for those who like to swim, the local Lake is just 10 minutes away by car and is warm and safe. No motor sports are allowed and during the week it is peaceful and relaxing. At the weekend it is a busy location and the bar and restaurant at a promontory serves Spanish tapas and meals. It is possible to do some fishing here too, for carp and barbel.
The nearest airport is Seville and direct flights are from Dublin, Gatwick or Stansted and the easy drive to us takes just less than an hour on good roads with little traffic. If you are not hiring a car, there is a bus service from Seville and we are happy to pick you up from Aracena. Flights from other regional airports go to Malaga and Faro and there are enjoyable and easy drives from both. We provide detailed directions for you from airports as well as car hire companies used by our guests.
There are many places to go and enjoy in the Sierras and there are always fiestas and romerias. A cultural calendar of local events is in the house along with maps and directions. Aracena is 7k away and for those interested in Roman history, Merida is an hour's drive north and a great place to see Roman remains, especially the stunning amphitheatre. More locally there are public swimming pools, Moorish villages, terrific walks for all levels, the lake and superb freshly cooked food.
What makes this holiday so enjoyable is the location, the local people and the opportunity to experience and participate in the real Spain. The reviews on Trip Advisor will give you a better flavour of what to expect than all the narrative we can write here.
