Overview

About the property

Cottage in Preseli Hills, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Wales - Secluded Private And Quiet With Full Access To The Six-Acre Garden The Perfect Retreat

Set under the Preseli Hills, Y Bwthyn is a beautifully converted old stone and slate-roofed barn situated well off the road in a tranquil countryside setting. Numerous tiny windows frame glimpses of the garden in which it is set – a garden which is so lovely it has been featured in magazines and on television. Inside, there is a wood burning stove and a counter-weighted stair to access the sleeping loft, and the cottage is filled with books and paintings. There isn’t a television so you can enjoy a few days being blissfully disconnected from the stresses and strains of the rest of the world. National Geographic has named Pembrokeshire the second best coastline in the world and it is not hard to see why. All around you wildlife, historic monuments, standing stones and cliff-top walks abound. Quiet and comfortable, this cottage is nothing short of idyllic.

Electricity and unlimited logs for the wood burner are included all year round.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, however there is a charge of £10 per dog per week/short break and a maximum of 2 dogs. Please let us know the number and breed of dogs accompanying you.

Bed linen can be supplied for an extra charge - please see the Linens sections under the Facilities tab above.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Kat & Michael

“A magical place!! We don’t want to leave. Thank you so much for letting us share your beautiful cottage and stunning gardens. We will be back in the Summer to experience it all over again.”

Mathew Owen, London.

“We found Bwthyn to be the perfect place to get away from it all. From the cosy wood burning stove to the amazing garden, the cottage is a wonderful welcoming oasis set against the jaw-dropping Pembrokeshire landscape. For us, it was the little touches that made the difference. The beautiful Welsh tweed blankets, the well equipped kitchen, and the interesting artwork and books gave the cottage a homely feel. We will definitely be returning to Bwthyn in the near future.”

Vaughan & Polly

“A beautiful cottage in beautiful gardens. And it was so nice to see the stars for once! It was exactly what we needed, a perfect break. See you again!”

Coast/Beach:

Pwllgwaloed is 2 miles away, this wonderful sandy beach has a lot to offer with a multitude of rock pools as well as 'The Old Sailors' restaurant/pub which makes the most of the fantastic views across to fishguard bay. The famous Pembrokeshire coast path which follows the second best coastline in the world, can be accessed via both these beaches.

Travel:

There is a regular bus running from just 10mins up the road which takes you to the main towns in the area, providing access to the train service and ferry to Ireland, in Fishguard. There are also bus services which run all the way around the Pembrokeshire coast line providing access for those who want to explore it.

Distances:

Just a 10 minute walk away is Dinas Cross with a couple of small convenience stores. You can catch the bus from here to the nearest towns of Fishguard and Newport which are just a 5 and 10 minute drive away and have all the amenities. For a bigger shop theres Cardigan or Haverfordwest which are 30 mins away.

Further Details:

Y Bwthyn is ideal for those seeking tranquility and closeness to nature. Birdwatchers will be in heaven, ramblers will be spoil for choice with all the coastal walks on offer, and this couldn’t be a better spot for anyone who enjoys exploring the countryside and being by the sea. Fishguard, the nearest town, has its own history. It was once the site of the last invasion of Britain in 1797, and it has also served as a film set for Moby Dick and Under Milk Wood. Music is popular, with the Fishguard Festival in July, St. David's Cathedral Festival in May/June and the Folk Festival over the late May bank holiday. The picturesque surroundings mean that painters, artists and craft workers often settle here and galleries are thick on the ground. You could take a boat trip to the islands and watch dolphins, porpoise, puffins and gannets. Or you can play golf, go coasteering, ride, surf or sail. This is a place that is all about the simple pleasures.

Fantastic views and cosy woodfired stove created the perfect retreat from work.

It is true photographs never lie. The images on the website lived up to what we experienced visually but what was not present in the photographs was the lovely birdsong and scent of an enchanting valley fully of wild gorse mingled with the garden's scented flowers, herbs and grasses especially in the morning dew and evening. Delightful, enchanting and peaceful.

The perfect place for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in the lovely cottage within a beautiful garden. The cottage is very cosy and had everything we needed. Exploring the garden at our leisure was a joy and the peaceful break was just what we we hoping for. The hospitality and facilities were even better than expected. The location is also a great base to explore the fantastic Pembrokeshire coast. We are already planning another visit. Thanks to Christina, David and all the garden helpers for making our stay memorable.
