Marisol and Robert have had this beautiful cottage since 2002 and have done a wonderful job in restoring the place to an excellent standard. So for a great holiday retreat in the country with fantastic views and sunsets but also very close to the coast and Santander it has been very popular over the years,so why not give it a try

This property is in a unique situation for those who like to have a adventure holiday it is possible to cycle up some of the mountain passes used in the vuelta de Espana cycle race in the morning and in the afternoon go surfing at the local beaches which are close by.Cycle guides and surf monitors are available on request and also if you would like to have Spanish classes at home Marisol is more than willing to set the class so that you will go home with a basic understanding of Spainish

Also if you like mountain ranges with an ideal opportunity for birds of prey watching and prehistoric caves visiting and also close by their is the world famous Carbarceno Wildlife park where you can enjoy seeing wildlife in a fence free enviroment well worth the visit

Fabulous cottage in Cantabria

We were looking for a suitable cottage for a family of eight in Cantabria with access to the mountains and the beaches. Somewhere with access too to facilities (food shopping, restaurants etc.) but away from any big towns. We found all of that and more.

This cottage was perfect. Out of the village and looking over the fields it was close to a supermarket to stock up and lovely for having meals out on the patio. Every room was brilliant and all the facilities just right. Our hosts met us on arrival and kept in touch throughout our stay without ever imposing themselves. They met us again on our departure.

Cantabria itself truly performed. Where else can you go from high mountain peaks to miles of sandy beaches in just a few minutes. The Picos national park is stunning but, as suggested by Robert and our friends, there are quieter and equally beautiful mountains closer to the house. Oh, and caves. Lots of caves, many of them of international importance where (you may need to pre-book) you can stand in front of real cave art (more well-visited caves may show you perfect reconstructions to avoid damage).

If you add the stunning villages like Santillana del Mar and a load of local cider, Cantabria is a great place for a couple of weeks. This cottage is a perfect base and our whole family loved every minute of our stay.

A charming and relaxing retreat

We stayed here for a week as a family of four, together with a University friend and her husband who live in Spain.

The house which has been lovingly restored is very well equipped, and offers comfortable and spacious accommodation for eight people.

The covered terrace provides lovely views of the surrounding countryside and we felt ourselves instantly relaxing while sat out there at all times of day. It's also a great vantage point for the local wildlife; we spotted deer and brown eagles on several occasions.

The house also offers a great base to explore, with lovely beaches and other places of interest within a 30 minute drive. The Picos de Europa are a bit further away, but well worth the 2 hour drive for the spectacular scenery and a trip up the Fuente De cable car.

The only negative point for our two teenagers was the lack of Wifi.

Robert and Marisol are welcoming and accomodationg hosts.

A lovely place to enjoy all that Cantabria has to offer!

Cycling: Many routes can be recommended by the owner from the property.

The property is located very close to national park of Carbaceno and the natural reserve of Ason with its specular waterfalls only to be seen in winter and spring. close by busy town of Solares with its natural hot spring water spa resort and its busy shopping areas. Lierganes is an old medieval town unspoilt as yet by massive tourism with its many busy bars and restaurants and beautiful historical buildings. the unspoilt coastline with its many white sandy beaches are within easy reach. Santander is also near and has all you could wish for on the shopping front. Bilbao is under an hours drive and there you can visit the Guggenheim museum.
