The Cottage (sleeping 6+) is a charming detached traditional Cornish cottage in Tredrizzick Green, with its own private, secluded south facing lawned garden. It is ideally situated for exploring all the attractions of the North Cornish coast, being just over a mile from the hustle and bustle of ROCK (famous for sailing and water sports) and the ferry to PADSTOW. POLZEATH (surfing) and DAYMER BAY (child-friendly beach with rock pools, safe swimming and windsurfing) are a couple of miles away.

About Fiona Beckett

We acquired The Cottage 20 years ago, having spent many happy summer holidays in the area. We decided to let our property out in order to make improvements to it (including installing central heating and double glazing), whilst trying to maintain the homely, family feel of the cottage. We absolutely love the cottage (complete with “retro” bathroom) and hope guests will appreciate its charm and not expect an impersonal, immaculate modern rental property.

Why Fiona Beckett chose North Cornwall

Our parents first brought us to this area of Cornwall in the 1960's. We have always loved the rugged coastline, the cliff top walk and the lazy days building sandcastles, picnicking on the rocks and surfing.

We used to surf, using wooden boards, in our swimwear with a t-shirt to prevent chaffing. Today our children prefer the less stoic option of a wetsuit and "8ft foamie"!

Perfect holiday cottage!

This is a wonderful, homely cottage, which is perfectly located for the golf course at St Enodoc, days on the beach, Rock’s excellent butcher, baker and fishmonger or as a base from which to explore Cornwall’s coastal walks. We’ve stayed here twice now and it’s worked out really well both times.

The quiet garden is a lovely, tranquil place to enjoy a glass or two after a hectic day and the cottage itself has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The spacious master bedroom, with its modern en-suite bathroom, is certainly very comfortable.

All in all, a great cottage to rent for a holiday to remember.

Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

Tredrizzick is just over a mile from Rock (famous for sailing, watersports and its sandy beaches) and the ferry to Padstow. Daymer Bay (under 2 miles) is a large beach, ideal for families with young children as it has lots of rock pools, golden sand for buckets & spades and it is safe for paddling and swimming. Through the sand dunes you can find the picturesque St Enodoc church. Polzeath (2 miles) is famous for its surfing (you can hire wetsuits/boards and book surf lessons).

Travel:

The nearest railway station is BODMIN PARKWAY (just over 15 miles) and the nearest airport is NEWQUAY (20 miles). A car is required to fully explore the area and there is parking beside the property. The Cottage is situated in Tredrizzick Green, which is off the main Tredrizzick road behind a car parking area, almost opposite Old School Close.

Distances:

Rock has a small but very well stocked supermarket as well as a garage (which sells logs). There is a huge Tesco on the outskirts of the market town of Wadebridge (7 miles) as well as the usual banks, chemists etc.

Further Details:

The Camel Trail is loved by cyclists of all ages and abilities and runs along the old railway line from Padstow to Wadebridge and on to Bodmin. Bicycles can be hired including pull-along trailers for little ones. There are numerous National Trust properties to visit; the nearest being Lanhydrock House and Pencarrow. The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan at St Austell are just over 20 miles away. Further afield The Minack open air Theatre at Porthcurno (near Land’s End) is worth a visit. There are many restaurants in the area, most notably Rick Stein’s in Padstow (you need to book a table well in advance) and Nathan Outlaw at the St Enodoc Hotel. For those with simpler tastes there are excellent pubs, which serve food. We particularly like The Maltsters Arms at Chapel Amble and The St Kew Inn. The pretty coastal town of Port Isaac, where the TV series Doc Martin was filmed, is approximately 8 miles. You can also go mackerel fishing from Padstow or Rock and take pleasure trips in either the Jubilee Queen or in a powerboat. For those in need of pampering there is The Cowshed spa at the St Moritz in Trebetherick (a couple of miles away). The St Moritz also has an indoor and outdoor pool.

Please send 25% deposit to secure booking. Balance payable a month before your visit. Regrettably, due to excessive guest use of electricity we now charge for usage at the EDF rate of 17p per unit. We ask you to please read the meter (situated in the garden room/annex) at the beginning and end of your stay and send a cheque for the amount used.


Changeover Day:
Changeover day is FRIDAY. The Cottage is available from 4pm on the day of arrival. Please check out by 11.00am on the day you leave.

Notes on prices:
During the season (Easter to October half-term) The Cottage is available to rent only on a weekly basis. Off-season we are happy to let it for weekends or part weeks with a minimum payment of £300. Special rates apply over the Christmas/New Year period – please contact the owner for information.

Notes on accommodation: Well-behaved dogs are permitted (an extra charge applies to cover the additional cleaning) but pets must sleep in the kitchen and not go upstairs or on the sofas and chairs. We request smokers not to smoke in the house and to dispose of their cigarettes safely. There are an additional two beds in the garden room/annex (best suited to teenagers!). Outside: South facing secluded garden, mainly laid to lawn, with a terrace and wooden picnic table for al fresco dining. There is also a collection of garden furniture for the use of guests. There is an outside tap for washing sandy feet and wet suits. The garden is safe for children but not entirely dog proof. Utility Room: In the utility area there is a washing machine and old dryer (for emergencies), iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Please note that, although duvets are provided, bed linen and towels are NOT so you must bring your own. Please leave The Cottage as you found it.
