The cottages are situated within the grounds of Le Chateau de Monfreville, the ancestral home to Walt Disney's family dating back a 1000 years ago. The cottages are spacious & tastfully decorated. The cottages have their own private gardens & patio area. The chateau overlooks a national park which has superb wild life and walks. Within the grounds of the chateau, there is a natural swimming pond, a hot tub, a ping pong table, table football and an honesty shop with the essentials. In the summer months, The Bread Fairy is out & about delivering pastries & French bread to your door every morning.
Monfreville is a 4km drive to Isigny sur Mer where you will find a delightful port with supermarkets, restaurants, markets & cafes. The Chateau was commissioned almost a thousand years ago by William the Conqueror & was once home to Walt Disney’s family & then later occupied by German soldiers during WW2. The Chateau is steeped with history & central to the D Day Landing Beach of Omaha & The American Cemetery and Utah Beach, close to the villages of Sainte Mere Eglise & Sainte Marie du Mont. The medieval town of Bayeux is home to The British Cemetery & the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Mont St Michel, Monet’s Gardens, Honfleur & Paris are all great for a day’s adventure & for fun times there are miles & miles of golden sandy beaches making this a superb vacation for all ages. Normandy is known as the bread basket of France and you won't be disappointed. Isigny sur Mer is home to world class butter, cream and cheese. There is also a caramel factory producing all things gorgeous! Fish markets are open every morning and there is always a market on each day of the week. Chateau de Monfreville is a special retreat for all those that visit. There are plenty of cider farms in the area where you can go and taste the delights of Cider, Pommeau and Calvados.
.We have lived in the chateau since 2006. We bought the chateau from Zoe's mother who bought the house back in 1989. We have 2 children who have had a lovely childhood and who are now bilingual.
zoe mckinley purchased this cottage in 2006
The Chateau has a unique charm. Its a wonderful property to be around & the grounds are beautiful. It is tranquility at its best. There is buckets of history to be had in the area and the chateau itself, which dates back to William the Conqueror & was home to Walt Disney's family.
.We live here all year round & are here to help in any way we can. Amazing bakery delights are delivered to your door every morning and probably a visit from Hector the labrador too!!

We have stayed at Pond Cottage on 9 separate occasions over the last 6 years and always loved every minute of it. The cottage, location and hospitality of Paul and Zoe is just fantastic. We have stayed in the summer holidays with our children and taken Grandma and Grandad and then had Christmas and New Year and it has been the best.
Pond Cottage has all the comforts you need and it just feels like home from home. Paul and Zoe are there if you need anything (never obtrusive) and give advice and guidance on where to go, if required - they are great hosts.
Chateau Monfreville is perfect for exploring D Day beaches and museums, Bayeux and getting further afield. Isigny, the local town is great with all the amenities and a few bars and restaurants and Bar Central is a favourite with consistently excellent and reasonable food.
We cannot recommend Chateau Monfreville highly enough - it has been a place where we have made many happy memories of family holidays that our children and parents will always remember.
Our family undertook an ambitious European vacation with our teenaged children. We truly enjoyed it, but we were desperate for some down time and needed a vacation from our vacation! We found an absolutely perfect respite at Chateau Monfreville. Zoe and Paul could not have been more hospitable. Rose Cottage was a perfect gem of a cottage with two beautifully appointed bedrooms upstairs and a very cozy living area and kitchen downstairs. The Chateau is stunning with flowers, gardens, acreage, animals, and nice open spaces. The cottage provides a perfect launching pad for touring Normandy: the D-Day beaches, Mont St. Michel, Bayeux, etc. I immediately began considering how I could possibly plan a return trip. Two nights were not nearly enough.
We loved it! It's homely and generously sized with lovely spacious gardens. Great to meet Paul & Zoe, superb local knowledge and recommendations for eating. Remote enough to be peaceful yet very handy for the Normandy Beaches and such. Negatives? Our (double) bed was on the small side. Wouldn't stop us going back though!
15 - 20 minute drive will take you to some of the most beautiful beaches. Miles of white sand & huge tides. You can walk, swim, fish, fly kites, land yacht, surf, sail, boogy board, jet ski, wind surf, beach comb, make sand castles and on and on and on!
