Follies Barn is a renovated, self-contained, detached house with accommodation for up to 10 on 2 floors. The house is light and characterful with exposed stone walls and oak beams. Downstairs there is a modern well equipped kitchen, a spacious dining room, a double height hall and a characterful sitting room with oak beams and wood burner with an oak framed double futon which can sleep 2. There is also a downstairs cloakroom. Upstairs there are four bedrooms sleeping eight. Bedroom 1 has a king-size bed and an en suite shower room. Bedroom 2 has a double bed, exposed stone walls and oak beams (please note there is a sloping ceiling and restricted head height in parts). Bedroom 3 is a twin bedroom with two single beds (please note one is 190cm long). Bedroom 4 has bunk beds. There is a family bathroom with bath and shower over. Outside there is a patio area and small garden, as well as off-street parking for 4 cars. The property has a dedicated broadband service.There are lovely walks to be taken directly from the property, including along the West Oxfordshire Way.

Stonesfield is a picturesque conservation village on the edge of the Cotswolds known for historic mining of characteristic roofing slates used in the Cotswolds and on many Oxford colleges.

Stonesfield has a shop, post office and pub. Woodstock is 4 miles away and has banks, restaurants, pubs, take-aways and many interesting shops and is also home to Blenheim Palace and the lovely Blenheim Estate which frequently hosts a variety of shows and events. Other places to visit locally include Oxford, Burford and the nearby Cotswold Wildlife Park, Daylesford Organic Farm and Chipping Norton. Easily accessible for day visits are Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, Cirencester and Cheltenham and many lovely historic houses and gardens such as Chastleton House, Upton House, Waddesdon Manor, Hidcote, Kiftsgate and Rousham,. The train stations at Combe, Charlbury and Long Hanborough (2.4, 4 & 4 miles) give access to trains direct to London taking around 70 minutes.

A wonderful base for a netball reunion!

This was a perfect place for 10 friends to meet up and spend a weekend catching up, relaxing in the cosy cottage and walking in the beautiful countryside.

The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard. Everything we needed and more was provided. The extra touches were really appreciated: the flowers in many of the rooms, the walk books and map, the welcome gift of a food parcel - including scrumptious homemade shortbread and the frozen pastries for us to bake for breakfast. This is a very comfortable cottage that we would happily return to.

Perfect!

The barn was a wonderful place to stay for a family Christmas - it comfortably slept 9 of us and it was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The kitchen and oven handled cooking Christmas lunch for 11 and we could all be seated around the dining table. We enjoyed lovely walks across fields on the local footpaths and in Blenheim Park, and also visiting Woodstock and Oxford. Perfect in every way!

Lovely cottage

I stayed in the cottage over a weekend with a group of friends. There are two good doubles (one en suite), a room with bunk beds (which will still sleep an adult) and a twin room - add in the futon in the lounge and it's up to 5 bedrooms. The barn is really well converted - good insulation, nice furniture, not too "chocolate box" but not too modern. There is a really good village shop one minutes walk down the road. The only slight drawback is a lack of good walks directly from the cottage - you have to drive a little bit first.

Regarding walks, five minutes on foot from the house there is access to a network of footpaths on the edge of the village including the West Oxfordshire Way. Maps, including a wall-mounted ordnance survey map centred on Stonesfield, and further details are available in the house and we are always happy to offer advice.

Ideal Family Holiday

We had a superb family holiday, 5 children and 4 adults. Every consideration had been given to making the barn comfortable and was of a very high standard.

The owners,Jane and Jeffrey, were very welcoming without being intrusive and made our stay both enjoyable and satisfying.

Local facilities were as stated, and the opportunity to explore the locality was excellent.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the barn, everything about it was of the highest standard.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity for such a delightful holiday.

lovely weekend

We had a lovely weekend stay at Follies Barn with six friends. The barn has been beautifully furnished and maintained with lots of detailed little touches that make all the difference. I don't think the pictures on the website do it justice, so it was one of those rare occasions when the reality exceeded expectations. Even the bunk beds were fine! The owner was on site and very welcoming and helpful - even stocked the kitchen with milk, tea, coffee, croissants etc and greeted us with delicious freshly baked shortbread. The property is set in a charming village with plenty of walks you can do from the door so all in all we had a weekend to remember.

Review of Follies Barn

We arrived to be greeted by the owner who was lovely and very friendly. She showed us inside and gave us a thorough tour round the house and answered any queries that we had. The house was very clean and tidy. Everything was neatly arranged and well-maintained and in good condition. The owner very kindly left us a shortbread that she had baked which was very yummy. Overall the house had six beds, 2 doubles, a bunk bed and a twin bed room. Also had two bathrooms which nice. There was plenty of room for my family of six including two young children. The house was situated by a road but this was not a problem as you could not hear it. It was a quiet road with very little traffic. The beds very very comfortable and clean and overall the house was well equipped over all areas. The house was also spacious with plenty of room. It was also in easy access of lots of areas to spend the day out at including Blenheim Palace which I would reccommend as a fun family day out, suitable for all ages.We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to any familys wanting a quiet holiday.

You can walk from the doorstep in Stonesfield in any direction on footpaths and bridleways: north past the farm shop, south to the Evenlode River, Stonesfield Common and beyond, eastwards on the West Oxfordshire Way into Blenheim, westwards on the West Oxfordshire Way; and much more besides.
