Why Steven BENN chose Lakes Peninsula

The cottage boasts an excellent location in the picturesque, medieval village of Cartmel. There are beautiful views from the front overlooking parkland, woods and the race course. It is 2 minutes walk from the village square and all the amenities. The acclaimed 2 Michelin starred restaurant, l'enclume, can be accessed through a narrow passage way, with the Cavendish arms on the way. Cartmel has many watering holes for a small village, no need to use the car to find variety. If needing exercise as part of you holiday, there are many walks right from the doorstep. The appeal of Cartmel is wide, the beauty, the history, the tranquility, the food, did I mention Sticky Toffee Pudding? I was born and grew up in the village and after many years away, was drawn back to the unique charm of the place. Before moving back permanently, I stayed in a few holiday cottages in the area and began to get ideas about how I would present my own holiday cottage.I was lucky to find Racecourse cottage for sale and although it was in need of complete renovation, there was a nice feel to it. A beautiful cottage in a beautiful village. In the words of Chris Evans, Cartmel is a "thimbleful of diamonds".

What makes this cottage unique

We have only been running for just over a year and have already had several repeat bookings, this speaks for itself.

Great property - we loved it

  • 5 of 5

Spent a week here in late July/early August. The property is well decorated throughout. Each bedroom has a TV and a bathroom/ensuite. The kitchen had all we needed including a dishwasher and washing machine. Great location for the village of Cartmel which has 4 pubs, a priory, a mirco-brewery (Unsworths), a Segway tour (good fun) and is the home of "sticky toffee pudding". Any downsides? i) The property is a bit south of the main lakes area, but in our view the village of Cartmel is well worth staying in and is near Grange-Over-Sands which is also good to visit (we liked the Hazelmere Cafe for afternoon tea) and it's not too far to drive to the south lakes. ii) You pay a lot but then you get a lot for it. Would we go back? Yes.

Exceptional Cottage

  • 5 of 5

So unusual to find a rental cottage or house that ticks all the boxs, great interior, very clean and a lot of thought has gone into furnishing the cottage with everything a person would need, amazing surroundings a stones throw away from Cartmel village, needless to say we had a lovely weekend and didnt want to leave.

Beautiful well appointed cottage with great views

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in the centre of cartmel with great views over the racecourse. It is well fitted out and was beautifully clean on arrival. The welcome pack was comprehesive and greatly appreciated.

There is plently of opportunities to explore from the cottage either on foot or by car. the village itself had great pubs and restaurants and the local shop provided both essentials and luxuries (ie sticky toffee pudding). All bedrooms were a good size, bathrooms well appointed and living rooms spacious.

Owner's Response: Hi Lesley, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a nice review. Chris Evans described Cartmel as a "thimble full of gems". For a village of it's size, it does have a lot to offer. You were our perfect guests and we hope we might be able to welcome you again in the future. All the best, Steven

Quality with no corners cut and the welcome pack, we thought these were a thing of the past.

  • 5 of 5

It was just perfect for all of us and very impressive. That is the opinion of all of us not just me and of course the girls Ladies over 60) were taken with the tasteful decor. We brought home more than we have ever done as not even logs to buy for the fire. Brilliant! However we would like to keep this our secret as we do not want it becoming to popular. We are considering a repeat visit in late October if diaries of everyone can do this. Many many thanks.

Owner's Response: Wow, thank you so much! There is a lot of competition out there and we never take our guests for granted. I still feel the same need to please as we did with our very first visitors. We will be more than happy to welcome you again. Wishing you all the best, Steven

Map

Travel:

Cartmel is 20 minutes from J36 of the M6 Motorway. Grange over Sands railway station is 2 miles away. London is less than 3 hours away and Manchester 90 minutes both by train. Although Cartmel itself is easy to explore on foot, we do recommend a car for travel further afield and to take full advantage of the Lake District.

Distances:

Grange over Sands 2 miles, Windermere 5 miles

Further Details:

Cartmel Village is built around the 12th Century Priory and is home to Simon Rogan's award winning 2 Michelin star restaurant, L'Enclume and it's sister restaurant, Rogan's. It is also home to the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding shop. With five pubs selling real ales and serving good food, Cartmel is fast becoming a food destination. There is a small convenience food shop and Grange over Sands, a mere 5 minute drive away, has a supermarket, award winning Higginson's Butchers, Fletcher's fruit and vegetable shop, 2 excellent bakeries and various Banks and Cashpoints.
