The house has a comfortable, open plan sitting room with satellite tv and wifi connection. There are ceiling fans in every room including the terrace. The house is set in a peaceful and tranquil location, conveniently located close to beaches and the lhistoric town of Galle and international cricket pitch. The wide veranda at the front of the house allows you to relax on the sunbeds and take in the atmospheric sounds of the birds and wild life. Chants from the nearby budhist temple can often be softly heard in the background .
I live in England UK. I love travelling and have been to many places in the world. My favourite place is Sri Lanka which I now consider to be my second home.
Julie Fewtrell purchased this villa in 2008
I have friends in Sri Lanka who I met when they were studying in the UK. I had visited them many times before deciding that I would buy my own place.
I chose the area because of its serenity and beauty. It's well worth the long journey. One can go back home feeling fully rested after a vacation at Frangipani house.
Although it's off the beaten track it is still easily accessible to the main places of interest including the beach.
I love having breakfast on the terrace and listening to the sounds of the birds and the wildlife. The soft chants from the Buddhist monks from the nearby Yatagala Temple can often be heard in the early evening.
The fresh fruit can be plucked from the trees in the garden and everything tastes better.
The people are so friendly and will go that extra mile for you.
I have wonderful, trustworthy staff who make you feel special.
I spend most of my holidays in Sri Lanka now because there is something for everyone here.
The place is very quiet and close to the beach. Nature surround the villa is beautiful. The cooking of Ranil is excellent! Better than many restaurants around.
If you are looking for peace and tranquility this is the place! Surrounded by nature and serenity, this is the perfect location to chill and relax. The hospitality shown by Ranil is second to none. An excellent cook and mixes great cocktails. Very good resting place and retreat. Best holiday in years and would love to come back.
We really enjoyed our stay at the villa. A beautiful, peaceful location. We enjoyed walking to the temple and to the tea plantation. The birds are so beautiful but we should have brought binoculars! Ranil has made us a great breakfast every morning and he took us to the market and Fort in Galle. The weather has not been wonderful but we have been out and about in a tuk tuk whatever the weather.

This is a fabulous property, off the beaten track but easily accessible by taxi or tuk tuk. It is surrounded by lush woodland and, given the temperatures, you can eat al fresco all the time and watch the many types of wildlife pass by the veranda as you do so. There are monitor lizards, monkeys, peacocks, palm squirrels and many many more creatures right before your eyes. Ranil, the manager, is a fount of local knowledge and a cook of quite superb quality. He was happy to take us to local markets, help us to buy food and then cook it back at the house. We enjoyed some of the best food ever, better even than the food we ate in local restaurants. It is the perfect place to visit the rain forest or from which to plan a safari and within walking distance an ancient temple and mangrove swamps. Perfect for couples and families, and very safe for children.
Frangipani house is off the beaten track. It was not easy to find. The house has lovely sized rooms which allow the breeze to waft through when very hot. Comfy bed, and nice areas to sit and read through the day.
Ranil visited virtually every day to check we had all we needed. He also arranged a phone for us to contact a reliable tuk tuk driver (lovely Wilson). Ranil is your 'go too' man for trips etc he also cooks if that's what you want. We enjoyed heading to Galle fort most nights (15 -20 mins in tuk tuk).
The wild life is lovely to see especially enjoyed the beautiful birds. We enjoyed having Bobby (dog) around, he apparently goes with the house.
We do have enjoyed our 3 nights in this wonderful villa in Unawatuna. Magic views on the rice plantation. Tuk tuk available to drive us to beach (10 mins) or to Galle (15mins). Excellent welcoming by Ranil, house conceived with really good taste.
A short tuk tuk (3 wheeler taxi) ride away, approximately 10-15 minuets will take you to Unawatuna beach, one of the many beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka. Unawatuna has some great restaurants and bars along the sandy beach. There is safe swimming and snorkelling here. Glass bottom boat trips and SCUBA diving can also be arranged.
The house can be reached from the Southern Expressway in approximately 10 minutes.
The journey from Bandaranaike Airport via the new Expressway is now approximately 2 to 2 and a half hours. A small toll has to be paid in Sri Lankan Rupees to use the Expessway. Distance from the airport is 96 miles.
Transport can be arranged upon request in air conditioned vehicles.
Unawatuna railway station is 1.3 miles from the house.
Galle town centre including the famous, historic Galle Fort and Ramparts are approximately 15 minutes away in a tuk tuk. The walled city bears witness to the past through it's architecture and grand old buildings, street names and Dutch churches. The Fort has many interesting bijou gift shops and jewellers who sell amazing designs.
Turtles can be seen in the sea from the Rampart in the early evening.
Sri Lanka's cricket ground can also be viewed from the Rampart.
Tours can be arranged through the manager. Yala National Park is well worth a visit while visiting the south. From the safety of a jeep, visitors can watch leopards, elephants, monkeys, crocodiles, deer, boar and bears roaming free in the 800 square miles reserve.
