It has always been our dream to live in France and that dream was realised when we bought Green Shutters. We love France, the food, the laid back way of life, the scenery and, of course, the wine and have spent many years holidaying in France, usually renting gites. It's our holiday experiences that have helped us in putting together all the elements that we think make a great holiday - a clean and comfortable house, well equipped kitchen (as we love cooking!), a private pool and privacy within the grounds but not too far from the village boulangerie!
We look forward to welcoming you to Green Shutters and feel sure you'll have a memorable holiday in our comfortable farmhouse.
Angie Spurrier purchased this farmhouse in 2014
We hope the extras we offer help us to stand out from other gite rentals, with cycle hire for all the family and a baby-sitting service!
Angie and Rick were so accomadating especially as we booked last minute, even able to let us stay from Friday to Friday for which we were most grateful. The gite itself has been beautifully arranged and although only two of us felt so homely. We would definitely recommend couples to book you will not be disappointed. The house is well equipped for self catering and we enjoyed cooking a few meals when not eating out. Angie and Rick happily provided good local information and their recommendations for restaurants and places to visit were a bonus.
We particularly enjoyed the use of bikes as the area is perfect for exploring and the friendly village is a gentle 10 minutes ride away or a 20 minute walk.
The games barn and pool all add to a wonderful experience as does the very private decking area which stays in the sun all day and into the evening.
We will definitely return to Green Shutters and offer Angie and Rick our deepest thanks.
I visited green shutters with my wife and 2 kids. The house was very spacious and very clean. The bed rooms were lovely and the beds were very comfortable. The pool was very good and cleaned daily before we woke. We were a little nervous about privacy with it being a gite but It felt as we had the house and grounds to ourselves, we only seen the owners when we needed them. We hired some bikes one day and had a lovely ride round the local area, the roads were very quite and I felt my children were safe. Overall we had a lovely holiday. We would highly recommend green shutters you would not be disappointed with your visit.
We have just spent a glorious week at Green Shutters – grandparents, parents and 3 active boys – and cannot praise the gite more highly. The spacious rooms are beautifully furnished and well equipped; the garden was large enough for games of cricket and football, and the pool with its numerous inflatables was in constant use. The games barn saw many highly contested games of darts, table tennis and table football in the evenings.
There were plenty of places to visit, both pretty and interesting local villages and, further afield, La Rochelle and Les Sables D’Olonne.
All in all, we could not have wanted a better venue for our family holiday. Angie and Rik were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We would highly recommend the gite for a brilliant holiday.
This is a super villa in immaculate condition, well-equipped and beautifully situated. We stayed as a family of five for a week and hired two top-notch bikes at bargain rates to cycle the countryside - very much to be recommended. Great games room, lovely garden, nice pool, superb house ... lots to do, but for us the weather was not great, and unfortunately you are not quite far enough South for sun to be guaranteed!
We had a fantastic time at Green Shutters. The farmhouse is very spacious, including a very well-stocked kitchen, plenty of living space and four good-sized bedrooms. Linen, towels and equipment are all excellent quality. But as good as the house is, the garden was the showstopper. Enclosed and private, with plenty of grass for children to run about; a good size pool and a great, shaded decked area for eating out, with a bbq too. Nothing was too much trouble for Angie and Rick, bringing round extra fans when we had a heat wave, and even the neighbours popped round with supplies when they discovered we had a little baby. There's also plenty to do with our without children within an hour or so of the farmhouse, whether you want seaside, countryside, quaint villages, or theme parks. We can't recommend this gite highly enough. Thanks so much.

Well equipped, well described gite - the photos matched with the reality. We were the first guests of the season and everything was pristine. The property is laid out in such a way upstairs (two sections each with 2 bedrooms) that it lends itself to 2 families. The beds were extremely comfortable -not something we have always encountered! Angie and Rick live on site and were always willing to put themselves out for anything we wanted. The garden, with its pool and games room (and space!) make it unnecessary to venture very far but trips to the coast at La Rochelle and Les Sables d'Olonne were very worthwhile and for a really peaceful afternoon we found Le Parc Oriental at Maulevrier (just SE of Cholet) a good choice. Friends have seen the photos since we returned home and are making noises about maybe booking for themselves at some time - what better recommendation?!
Special interest holidays:
Want to get out and explore the Vendee on two wheels? We can supply cycle hire for all the family - we have a range of frame sizes for adults, children's bikes, child seats, tag-alongs and baby buggy trailers for infants from 8 months - all bikes and equipment are well maintained. We also hire car cycle carries, which take 3 bikes and fit most hatchback and estate cars. We can recommend cycle routes for all levels!
We're within easy reach of beaches and would definitely recommend a trip to Les Sables d’Olonne, just a 1 hour 15 mins drive from the house. It offers a great family day out with its beach, zoo, fishing port and world famous marina, home to the Vendee Globe the world’s most prestigious single handed around the world yacht race held every 4 years; departing November and returning in January. As well as enjoying the sandy beach, there are numerous restaurants along the beach front and marina.
