About Suzanne Crown

We are offering our luxury home in France as a special place to stay and take in all that Normandy has to offer. The place was bought in 2006 and has been lovingly restored to a high level of comfort in 2010.

The Barn is a great escape from the daily rat race ... and is a place filled with calm and tranquility.

It has been enjoyed by Honeymoon couples and those wanting a special place to stay.

We enjoy our own time in France, and are always planning the next project!

Suzanne Crown purchased this barn in 2006

Why Suzanne Crown chose Sourdeval

We love the area, it is close enough to the ports and airport to make travelling there easy, yet it is in an unspoilt location.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful, we are still exploring in all directions!

It is not in tourist trap, and the smaller villages around retain their character even today. The locals are mostly French, friendly and welcoming. The country feeling abounds in the produce available in the local shops and markets.

What makes this barn unique

The property is not just a place to stay .... it is a home.

You can enjoy the quiet, peaceful area and yet be in the middle of a bustling town market within minutes.

The countryside changes throughout the seasons and each one brings a different feeling to the house.

In summer it is bright, open and sunny .... and in winter, warm and inviting ....

We offer quality accommodation to enable you to explore and enjoy this region of France.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Suzanne

The barn is absolutely lovely. Everything we could possibly want is here. You have done an absolutely amazing job converting an old stone barn into a lovely house.

Helen and I have stayed in about 14 apartments and houses in England, France (mainly) and Italy over the last 5 years.

Yours is by far the best. We promise to treat it carefully.

Thunderstorms today, but good weather forecast for the rest of our stay.

Regards - Ian and Helen

Hi Suzanne

We are home and just wanted to let you know how we got on.

We had a Fab time and fell in love with the area.

The barn is beautiful and very easy to live in. There is everything that you could possibly need and more. We give it 5 stars! What wood are the stairs made of, they are beautiful?

The area is lovely and we were amazed at all the flowers everywhere. We didn’t use either of the quilts as it was so hot. The garden is and looking lovely. The hedge is also growing well.

A very attractive property in a quiet country location, fully equipped and tastefully furnished.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a most enjoyable 4 weeks at the Apple Barn during May 2018.

The property has been renovated to a very high standard and is equipped with all the appliances necessary for a comfortable stay. The standard of decoration and furnishings are to an equally high standard. The house is located in a quiet setting in the heart of the Normandy countryside, yet is reasonably close to the facilities available in Sourdeval, Mortain and Vire and the major attractions including the DDay beaches and museums, the Mont St Michel and many others are within an hours car journey.

The area is spoiled with choices of good restaurants, ranging from local gourmand cuisine to more basic, yet interesting, food.

We played golf on several courses in the area and would particularly recommend Golf de la Dathee, near Vire. This course presents a real challenge, without being too long, and the scenery adjacent to the lake is really beautiful. Although we did not take advantage of it, there are many rural walkways and cycle routes to hand and the sites of historic interest are well presented and are readily accessible.

We were sorry to leave and would unreservedly recommend this property to prospective visitors.

Beautiful holiday home in idyllic surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We have recently spent a week at the Barn and can state that all previous reviews are entirely accurate. The property is luxurious and so much attention paid to detail. Whilst we ate out on a number of occasions we also enjoyed barbecues and cooking in the well appointed kitchen. The gardens and patio are so peaceful and you are surrounded by nature . We regularly saw deer only a short distance from the barn. Suzanne is so helpful and ensured that any queries were promptly answered, thank you again Suzanne.

Lovely barn with everything you need for very comfortable stay in a beautiful rural location.

  • 5 of 5

Found the barn easily and everything as described or even better. There is plenty of outside space and you can move around for sun or shade as required and we ate outside for almost every meal. Local towns good for shopping with plenty of patisseries.

We found going south best for quiet and rural countryside with some lovely villages and small towns such as Lassay de Chateau. Granville and Averanches very busy.

The Moulin restuarant at Brioude was good and has a pleasant river walk too.

A great holiday!

A truly luxury property in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this stunning property. Just rural enough to be peaceful, but not far from the local towns and restaurants. The property has been renovated to the highest standard, quality fittings used.

Each bedroom having its own en-suite is a big advantage, and the log burner was very efficient.

All in all, a great property. Not the cheapest, but worth every extra penny to enjoy luxury.

Well done, Suzanne, for creating a stunning property.

Gite made in Heaven

  • 5 of 5

A superb barn renovation ensured this gite was the best we have stayed in. Delightful area, especially Sourdeval; a lovely place to spend an hour or two watching the world go by. Domfront offered a glimpse into the past plus we ate a delicious lunch at Bistro St Julien; l'Abbaye de Hambye was so interesting with a very human background story. Wherever we went we met with friendliness and a desire to help.
