About Kate Kirsopp-Reed

I was born and brought up at Old Town Farm, which has been in our family for centuries now! Although I have lived and worked overseas, Otterburn is my home and I cannot imagine living anywhere else in the UK. My family also live on the farm, or nearby, so it is still very much a family concern.

I am Massage Therapist and a Freelance Gardener with a passion for outdoor life and activities.

Kate Kirsopp-Reed purchased this barn in 2000

Why Kate Kirsopp-Reed chose Northumberland

I inherited the property in 2000. In 2013 I decided to renovate it because of the east facing views down the Rede Valley and also, I just enjoy a challenge!

I love the location because it is our family farm. It is wild and remote (but not isolated) and, in my opinion, the most relaxing place in Northumberland.

What makes this barn unique

It is a peaceful farm location within easy reach of many of Northumberland's finest attractions and a multitude of rural pursuits including: mountain biking, hill walking, sailing, star gazing, fishing, horse riding and golf. The farm is located with the newly designated Northumberland International Dark Skies Park and on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. The Granary also has a fabulous flower-filled garden, the likes of which you will rarely find in a holiday cottage.

There is so much to see and do on the doorstep but the Granary has a lovely outside space to relax in or why not book a massage with myself, Kate. I have a work studio on the farm. A Thai Yoga Massage or Hot Stone Massage can revive aching limbs and provide a perfect holiday treat!

Realxing week at The Granary

  • 5 of 5

The property is superb, well presented and the views are brilliant. Nothing to fault at all with this property or the owner. The location is great for exploring Northumberland and The Borders with a lot off history to soak in as you wander about. We had a very enjoyable stay and both of our dogs had a great Time.

Beautiful holiday home in gorgeous setting

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a lovely break between Christmas and for new year at the Granary. The property was accurately listed and we soon got used to the 'upside down' layout which meant we had a lovely view of the birds feeding from the ground floor, first thing, and then an even better, panoramic view of beautiful countryside, as we ate breakfast from the kitchen upstairs. We walked each day in the adjacent woods and down to the stream; this was perfect for our lovely four-legged family member, George. Each evening, we cooked in the well-equipped kitchen and had everything we needed, although we were reassured from the warm welcome and from others' reviews and comments that Kate was on hand should we have needed her. The cottage was clean and cosy (we lit a fire in the wood burner a couple of times) and in all, very comfortable and extremely peaceful, just what we were looking for. We'd strongly recommend to friends or relatives looking for a similar type of break and we're sure George would love us to return! Thank you, Kate.

Fabulous holiday

  • 5 of 5

Just had a fantastic weeks holiday in this beautiful home from home cottage. The views are stunning, the cottage very tastefully done with all the comforts of home. Great central location for exploring the surrounding areas. Kate is always around if you need her but equally lets you get on with your holiday and respects your privacy. Lovely little touches on arrival like beautiful scones. Will definitely be staying here again. Thank you Kate.

Wonderful Stay at The Granary

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place to stay for our first visit to Northumberland and we found and The Granary through Owners Direct. We thought the cottage looked nice on the web and when we arrived we were not disappointed.

The cottage has been refurbished to a high modern standard and has the living room/kitchen diner upstairs. We sat in the kitchen diner for the most part taking full advantage of the wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

The Granary is comfortable and well appointed with all you need for a relaxing stay. We only stayed for a few days and didn't have the time to sit out, we wished we had time to use the wonderful summer house, but that will have to wait for next time.

Kate was great giving us a warm welcome, making sure we were comfortable and providing nice cheese scones for us upon arrival.

There are so many things to do in the area, we visited Alnwick Castle, Wallington Hall, Woodhorn Colliery & Museum (County Archives are there), Hadrian's Wall - Sycamore Gap and had a quick drive into Scotland returning via Kielder Water, phew an energetic few days!

We will definitely return to The Granary when we next visit Northumberland. Thank you Kate!

Granary and Hemmel Cottages

  • 5 of 5

We had never stayed in Northumberland before and we certainly dropped lucky picking Kate's cottages. Both properties are absolutely fab in every way, the location is peaceful and stunning in equal measure. Kate is lovely and a truly wonderful host. From the moment we arrived we relaxed into the beautiful countryside, helped by Kate's fresh homemade cakes and warm smile.

Using the cottages as a base we then explored the areas great beaches and ridiculous number of tourist attractions (both natural and historical).

Basically so good we have already booked a return trip.

If you go you'll love this place.

A great family holiday.

David, Kat, Callum and Ruby the dog.
