About Kate Kirsopp-Reed

I was born and brought up at Old Town Farm, which has been in our family for centuries now! Although I have lived and worked overseas, Otterburn is my home and I cannot imagine living anywhere else in the UK. My family also live on the farm, or nearby, so it is still very much a family concern.

I am Massage Therapist and a Freelance Gardener with a passion for outdoor life and activities.

Kate Kirsopp-Reed purchased this barn in 2000

Why Kate Kirsopp-Reed chose Otterburn

I inherited the property in 2000. In 2013 I decided to renovate it because of the east facing views down the Rede Valley and also, I just enjoy a challenge!

I love the location because it is our family farm. It is wild and remote (but not isolated) and, in my opinion, the most relaxing place in Northumberland.

What makes this barn unique

It is a peaceful farm location within easy reach of many of Northumberland's finest attractions and a multitude of rural pursuits including: mountain biking, hill walking, sailing, star gazing, fishing, horse riding and golf. The farm is located with the newly designated Northumberland International Dark Skies Park and on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. The Granary also has a fabulous flower-filled garden, the likes of which you will rarely find in a holiday cottage.

There is so much to see and do on the doorstep but the Granary has a lovely outside space to relax in or why not book a massage with myself, Kate. I have a work studio on the farm. A Thai Yoga Massage or Hot Stone Massage can revive aching limbs and provide a perfect holiday treat!

Beautiful and peaceful with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

The property is stunning. We loved the fact that the living accommodation is on the first floor in order to really benefit from the views. Similarly, waking up in the morning and watching the array of birds feeding was the best way to start the day. The cottage is fully equipped with everything we needed and perfectly located for visiting local sites and walks. Kate, the owner, was extremely helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome from the outset. We spent a lovely, relaxing 4 nights here and will definitely return. We visited during February half-term so some sites were not yet open for the season but still plenty to do and see. Cannot recommend the property and Kate herself, highly enough.

Lovely cottage in a lovely location.

  • 5 of 5

The granary had everything you wanted for a holiday and more, you could live here.

The location is so peaceful on a farm overlooking the fields/sheep and hills. The garden is a bird watchers paradise from great spotted woodpeckers on the nut feeders to willow warblers and fly catchers flitting about after the insects.

The location is perfect for walking and getting into KIelder water and Hadrians wall.

Kate is a lovely host, on hand, but not intrusive and would definately recommend her massage. Would stay here again.

Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage convenient for all amenities but still in a rural location. Full of character and a proper home from home. Kate made us feel so welcome and was there when we needed her for advice on things to do and her thoughts on local attractions was invaluable.

My daughter loved the massage and this made her holiday.

Would love to stay again, I can find no fault with m stay at the Old Granary

Realxing week at The Granary

  • 5 of 5

The property is superb, well presented and the views are brilliant. Nothing to fault at all with this property or the owner. The location is great for exploring Northumberland and The Borders with a lot off history to soak in as you wander about. We had a very enjoyable stay and both of our dogs had a great Time.

Beautiful holiday home in gorgeous setting

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a lovely break between Christmas and for new year at the Granary. The property was accurately listed and we soon got used to the 'upside down' layout which meant we had a lovely view of the birds feeding from the ground floor, first thing, and then an even better, panoramic view of beautiful countryside, as we ate breakfast from the kitchen upstairs. We walked each day in the adjacent woods and down to the stream; this was perfect for our lovely four-legged family member, George. Each evening, we cooked in the well-equipped kitchen and had everything we needed, although we were reassured from the warm welcome and from others' reviews and comments that Kate was on hand should we have needed her. The cottage was clean and cosy (we lit a fire in the wood burner a couple of times) and in all, very comfortable and extremely peaceful, just what we were looking for. We'd strongly recommend to friends or relatives looking for a similar type of break and we're sure George would love us to return! Thank you, Kate.
