Fabulous place. Will 100% be returning!
This is the second time we have stayed in this beautiful little cottage. Martin and Kim are such warm welcoming hosts not only to us but to our little dogs as well. On arrival there was a cake, bottle of wine and some doggy treats which is such a nice gesture. We found the cottage to be exceptionally clean and fresh, we could tell that it had just been thoroughly cleaned for our arrival. Although small this cottage has all of the appliances you would find in a larger cottage all of which worked. We found sweet rose cottage absolutely perfect for us and our little dogs lovely and cosy. The information that Martin and Kim provide is exceptional everything you would need to know about where to go for days out, eat and drink, they have even gone as far to mark out where all of the dog friendly beaches, pub etc are. All you have to do is turn up relax and enjoy your stay. We really cant thank Martin and Kim enough for their outstanding hospitality. We look forward to returning. Mark, Kirsten Minnie and Ted.
It was a pleasure to have you and Mark stay again and this time with your lovely Minnie and Ted! We always aim to give a great experience and the welcome goodies are given just to say a 'thank you' for choosing us over others - we do appreciate our guests custom.
We are so pleased you loved Sweet Rose again and found all the updated information helpful. There are so many gems nearby but we wanted dog owners to find them easily within the information folders and so introduced the 'paw marking' next to those attractions, eateries and beaches that are dog friendly - this has been a great help.
Just because you are going away as a couple into a one bedroom cottage doesn't mean you can't have the modern day amenities associated with a bigger home; we just designed with that in mind.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we look forward to seeing you all again, but no 6 year break this time we hope.
Very best wishes,
Martin and Kim
A SIX STAR HOLIDAY COTTAGE
This was our third stay at Pilgrims Rest Cottages and it certainly won't be our last.
From booking right through until after leaving at the end of our break Martin was brilliant as usual.
The only problem was we couldn't stay longer!
This time we stayed in the cosy and lovely "Sweet Rose" and found it to be just as fabulous as the others. We wanted for nothing on arrival and following a friendly greeting from Martin we were soon relaxed and enjoying our break in our "Happy Place"
The bath in the bedroom was a lovely touch and the even our Boston Terrier, Beryl was thought of by our hosts.
We love the position of Pilgrims Rest as only 5 minutes walk away you have local shops which provide for any self catering needs. Its location makes it perfect for exploring in every direction be it by car or on foot.
We loved our latest visit so much that we have already booked a week in November, the next time we are free from work and we know we can drive to Torbay and switch off, confident of the perfect chill out break in a cosy, pretty cottage. We no longer bother searching for other options in the area as it would be impossible to beat for any kind of break.
Thank you so much for your hospitality Martin!
Peter and Karen Prior (Eastbourne)
It was lovely to see you, Karen and your lovely Beryl again; this time in our Sweet Rose as Honeysuckle was already taken and so glad you enjoyed her as much as Honeysuckle. The slipper bath is a definite winner with so many guests and a special extra over Honeysuckle!
It's great to hear you once again found the peace and relaxation you love at your base, whilst popping out and exploring or a quick nip upto the shop for your needs.
Thank you for your kind comments about us personally. We do enjoy welcoming our guests and you guys are a joy to have.
See you again in November.
Very best wishes,
Martin and Kim
What a let down
We was so looking forward to our stay in the cottage having read all the glowing reviews then one really bad one but I hoped it was a one off how wrong.
I asked if we could arrive early but was told the cleaners would not have finished they obviously forgot our cottage. As it turned out the cleaner didn't turn up the cooker was dirty you could write your name in the grease there was no way I could use it windows and door glass dirty, outside plants growing through kitchen window a dirty door curtain hanging on a bit of string upstairs the carpet in the toilet smelled of urine. I could go on but after having complained. On the Tuesday ( We arrived Saturday) the cottage was cleaned there was a curtain pole and curtain hanging at the door not five star clean there was also flowers wine and beer and a gift voucher left for us as an apology. We made the most of it and when we left we cleaned up after ourselves stripped the bed put pots and dishes into dishwasher. How this can be advertised as a five star is beyond me.
Sweet Rose was the perfect little cottage to spend our first holiday together without the children. Everything was as described and the roll top bath was just heaven. The welcome pack was detailed and informative and the goodies we had were a wonderful treat. Thankyou Martin and Kim. We will definitely be back.
Time away to relax and play and be spoilt. So glad Sweet Rose gave all you wanted and more; certainly the roll top bath has been a massive hit for guests for that extra pampering on top of everything else. With so much to do and enjoy nearby, we wanted to give our guests a guide to the special places and hence the information folders - next time you come you can try others as well as the ones you feel in love with this time. Thanks for taking the time to write a review and see you again soon. Very best wishes, Martin and Kim
A Cottage With Style
On are recent stay at Sweet rose cottage the cottage had everything we needed for our stay ie Washing Machine, Dishwasher,Fridge and much more we loved the rolled top bath in the bedroom on arrival we found the cottage to be very clean and we found the garden at the side great for eating alfresco and the grassy area for your dog. less than 2min walk to the bus stop to go into torquay and 5min to the local shops Tesco,co-op,local bakers, etc the owner Martin and family was welcoming they even sent flowers for Susan's Birthday we will definitely be going back
Dave and Sue
So pleased you had such a lovely holiday with us at Sweet Rose. When we designed the cottage, although just a one bedroom, we felt it should still have all the mod cons that can make for an easy stay, although, as you found there are numerous places to eat out or take a meal in! The local shops, within easy reach, has certainly been a hit - unlike many historical places being in the middle of nowhere, we have the benefits of great local shops but still feeling in the countryside with its peace and quiet, within the garden and courtyard.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and certainly look forward to seeing you again next year on Sue's birthday. Kind regards, Martin and Kim
Booked as a gift for parents & did not disappoint!
We booked Sweet Rose for our mum & step dad so they could recharge their batteries & that's exactly what they did. They both looked very relaxed when they got home, even thier dog Bliss had an amazing time.
Mum said it was a home away from home & the extra touches made it all the more special. The property was exactly as described & shown in the pictures, but still they were surprised at how lovely it was.
Martin was very nice & helpful on things to do in the area but also gave privacy so you could relax & enjoy the holiday.
There are a few more holiday properties on site but you would never know really as it's so quiet there which adds to the peacefulness of it all.
Our mum & step dad would definitely recommend Sweet Rose & are even planning on booking again with the whole family next year
