We have a little house in France* and over the years have been collecting furniture and other items we've found in Brocante shops and markets and bringing them back to England. Our décor includes some of these pieces and mixes vintage French country with fabrics and colours from familiar names such as Laura Ashley and Annie Sloan. It's very much a 'home from home' with a lived in feel - if you're looking for bland, soul-less or flat-pack uniformity, then you'll be disappointed!
The house itself was built around 1870 and features in some of the original Victorian paintings of Ventnor. It stands at the foot of St Boniface Down and overlooks the rooftops of the town down towards the sea. We've lovingly converted the ground floor into a romantic, private and thoughtfully equipped space, just for couples.
You have your own front entrance, private parking plus full use of the garden (which you can access via the side gate or through your own back door). It's a great place for relaxing and watching the antics of Fred, Ginger and friends; our regular red squirrel visitors who raid our hazelnut feeder daily and cause much entertainment!
The focus really is on comfort so the apartment is spotlessly clean and offers special touches such as a choice of slipper bath or walk-in shower, high quality linens and toiletries and a well equipped kitchen to help you feel 'at home' straight away. We've thought of the practical things too with complimentary WiFi, Sky+ and central heating throughout - a perfect place to cosy-up for a winter break.
After a day of exploring, you'll have the perfect place to sit and relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea. The Downs are literally at the end of the garden path and if you're a nature lover, you'll enjoy seeing our regular wildlife visitors throughout the seasons including a wide range of butterflies, birds and bees.
Ventnor really is the perfect location for a romantic break. The town has individuality, character and everything within walking distance; perfect for strolling on the beach or on beautiful downs, wildlife spotting, seeking out rare flora and fauna at the Ventnor Botanic Garden, water sports, sea safaris, tennis, golf and of course challenging cycling routes. Ventnor hosts its own carnival and several festivals throughout the year; the Isle of Arts in May and the Ventnor Fringe Festival in August. And with it's famously temperate climate, Ventnor is also ideal for a Spring or Autumn visit.
If you take the coastal path from Ventnor or walk down through the Ventnor Botanic Garden, you'll discover Steephill Cove, a hidden gem inaccessible by car. In the other direction, Bonchurch is also just a short stroll away and offers a wealth of pretty walks. You can relax in the Pond Café, visit the pottery studios, explore secluded coves along the coastal path, tackle the more challenging footpaths weaving their way up the undercliff or take the gentle stroll along the waters edge stopping at the SeaPot for fresh crab pasties at Wheeler's Bay.
While there's a lot to keep you in Ventnor, Bonchurch and Steephill Cove, you'll also be conveniently located for visiting other favourites such as Shanklin Chine, Godshill and The Needles plus events such as the Isle of Wight Festival, Cowes Week, walking and cycling festivals and even a Garlic Festival!
Nothing is too far away on the island and we'll even share a few lesser known gems that visitors don't always find.
So whether you're looking for a few days of quality time together, celebrating a special occasion, or have weeks of water-sports and hiking planned, rest assured that we'll do everything we can to make your stay memorable - for all the right reasons!
We're welcoming guests this year for short off-season breaks and longer summer stays.
