The Coach House does not accept pets and has comfy rattan seating in the sunny courtyard. We have known people to go home with a tan in March!. As we only take children of 13 years and over the environment is very calming and 2 people have told us tht they have not had to take sleeping tablets during their stay with us. People have commented that when you are in our little haven it feels like it is giving you a big comforting hug, but you can judge that for yourself! That is one of the things that we noticed when we bought the property but it is nice that other people have felt it too. We opened in 2014 and have already had guests returning again and again. A complimentary bottle of wine is left for each stay. From January 2017 we shall be able to take cards over the telephone.

My husband who is a retired bank manager and myself purchased the property and have put our heart and soul into creating 3 beautiful cottages, of which 2 are doggy friendly, all in an idyllic setting. We are offering luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. Our friends thought that we were mad to take on such a large building development and after a while, when the builder had told us that he didn't think anyone would have taken it on unless they were a builder, we began to think our friends were right but it seemed a good idea at the time! We were very naive but we soon learned how to project manage a development of this size and quickly understood that there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights involved. Because I had a romantic vision of how my little hamlet should look and nothing else would do, the budget, as you see on TV programmes was blown out of the water but second best simply would not do in my mind. I hope you will be impressed with the results.
Julie Milnes purchased this cottage in 2014
Great location!!!!!The setting is peaceful and feels like you are away from it all, yet you are handy for Whitby (4 miles). Other beaches like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are only a short drive away. We are close to local tourist attractions such as Goathland ( "Heartbeat country") and Grosmont where you can catch the steam train of a bygone era. You feel like you are far from the madding crowd but can be amongst it in no time at all. we are nestled in the valley which is a very sheltered position, with beautiful views over the hills of the National Park.ALL COTTAGES TRIMMED FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER.From November to March the cottages are priced to entice couples for a winter break.
The cottages are newly converted with full gas central heating and all up to date thermal regulations, making sure your winter stay is very cosy. There is also the added benefit of a log burning stove for that romantic feel but you will not need it to feel warm.
A dog washing facility has been installed from January 2016 for the cottages that take a dog.
The cottage was beautiful, well equipped and luxurious. The kitchen had a double oven, washer, dishwasher and all mod cons, it was fully equipped. The lounge was comfortable and elegant The master bedroom and bathroom was a treat and there was lovely double bath in the second bedroom.
Robert and Julie, the owners of the cottage were lovely. There was a welcome bottle of wine waiting on our arrival. There was everything there that we could need.
The location was ideal, it was quiet and secluded but only 10 minutes from Whitby. A perfect get away for anyone looking for luxury, comfort and value.
Lovely property, very welcoming and Robert and Julie were extremely helpful. Would definately return
Robert greeted us on arrival and was extremely friendly and helpful. he showed us round the property and then left us to enjoy our stay. The cottage was beautifully presented and really cosy, perfect for the current wintery weather. the under floor heating was particularly nice and the dogs just slept all day in the warmth!
The main en suite bathroom was perfect and we took advantage of the big bath on Sunday afternoon when we got back from a dog walk all cold and wet, perfect!!
My only very slight complaint was the bedding. Unfortunately by girlfriend is allergic to the woollen blanket thing and we had to take it off so by early morning we were a bit chilly.
Other than that, Robert and Julie were perfect hosts, the cottage was beautiful and so nice to find somewhere that allows two dogs, they loved it too. Hopefully we'll be booking again soon.
A beautifully appointed property in a quiet situation but convenient for the North York Moors, coastline and Whitby. The owners were helpful, warm and very welcoming.
Recently back from Drakes Cottage; what an amazing place. We had a wonderful chilled out 4 days with friends to celebrate a 60th Birthday.
Robert and Julie were such lovely hosts, not at all intrusive but always on hand if needed. It was a nice to have a quick chat with one of them whilst they were on their way to feed the horses!
A great welcome from Robert, who showed us around the beautiful cottage and even took in our Asda delivery for us!
Cannot fault Drakes Cottage at all, everything was quality from the furnishings to the fittings. A free standing roll top bath for both bedrooms and the shower in the en suite bathroom was amazing! We have missed it!
The kitchen was great and had everything at hand that you may need with a table big enough for 6 people; we even cooked a lamb roast so we could make the most of our time at Drakes.
We spent most mornings discovering the local area and then it was back to Drakes for a chill out. Even Millie the dog was provided with her own blanket! The log fire was a real boon after a chilly morning walking along Whitby & Scarborough and the butchers/deli in Sleights sell bags of logs for £5. That's also worth a visit if you're thinking of eating in - great selection.
Would highly recommend Drakes and Ralphs Cottage is just next door if a larger group were to all go.
Can't wait to return early next year!
