The nearest supermarket and filling station is two miles away in Plumeliau.
A charming nine-hole golf course with reasonable green fees is found two miles from the cottages in the grounds of a ruined chateau.
Fishing is very popular on the river and nearby lakes for which a fortnightly permit has to be obtained for adults. We can assist with bait and rods.
The village is a central base for excursions to nearby beaches and historical sites with many interesting visits a short car-ride away.
We hope to make your stay with us a wonderful memory
Wife Patricia and I have lived in France for many years and had successfully let our two holiday cottages to couples and families until we decided to retire and travel the world. After several years of travelling we have now decided to once again settle in St Nicolas des Eaux making it our home and let our two lovely cottages. We hope that our guests will enjoy the village and surrounding area as much as we do. We live five doors away and are always on hand.
Michael Hunt purchased this cottage in 1997
We originally bought the cottages because we loved the area. The river is very pretty and tranquil and the walks and cycle tracks along the tow path are lovely. Guests can also cycle along the level tow path for miles in both directions. A holiday here can be as active or relaxing as you wish. The area is very popular with both artists and anglers, fishing rods are available for loan. There are many opportunities to sketch and paint the beautiful local scenery. The cottages exhibit the several of Patricia's paintings.
The benefits of the two properties are that that they are not part of a gite or holiday complex although we have put a heated swimming pool in the garden and also two full sized swings. The large gardens are separate but the pool and swings will be shared at the top of the gardens. You are immersed in life in a real Breton village. It can be as peaceful or as active as you wish. You could spend a week without needing to get in a car. There is a shop that supplies many essentials a 3 km bike ride away and a baker delivers excellent bread every day to the cottages at 8.15am every day except Monday. There is a meat and fish delivery van that visits several times a week at noon, he toots his horn loudly to announce his arrival. A real escape from the hectic grind of daily life and work.
Lovely stay here, a good base to explore the area.
Josselin a must see, also Quiberon.
Fantastic beaches all around the coast.
Good food and wine at the supermarket in Plumeliau.
Mike and Patricia lovely hosts, made us very welcome.
The accommodation was a real home from home and no effort was spared to make us comfortable. The children loved the b ikes and trips on the river in the boat.
Wonderful cottage in a quiet little village not far from bigger towns. Very well equiped. Owners were very welcoming and gave us loads of useful information. Nothing was too much trouble. The pattiserie lady coming round in the mornings was a real treat as was the local Bistro. We enjoyed using the heated pool and the rowing boat on the river a short walk away. Very relaxed atmosphere around the village. The locals are very friendly.
We had a wonderful two weeks staying at Blavet cottage. The kids (5 and 8 year old boys) loved the garden, rope swing, swings, swimming pool and outdoor games as well as the rowing boat and the visiting baker (pain au chocolate every morning - definite diet for me now!). We took the boys bikes and borrowed the adult bikes that the owners had available, we loved the bike rides alongside the beautiful river tow path. There were lots of treasures to be found like the chapel in the rocks and secret tunnels. So much wildlife and good food. The house was lovely and had every home comfort you could think of including English TV, beach towels and hairdryer. You really could just turn up with your clothes! Patricia and Michael couldn't be more friendly and helpful , always at hand if we needed them, living only a couple of doors down. They recommended places to go and things to do. Having two small children it was nice that an English couple familiar to the area were close at hand in case of emergency especially as our French is so bad! We recommend taking up the owners offer of dinner on the first night it was delicious and a great start to the holiday after a tiring day travelling. Overall I can see it would suit all ages as it is an old village which is peaceful and beautiful but with so much activity with all the provided equipment and local sites such as Karting, high ropes, interesting markets, châteaux and places to see. We loved the mOving metal sculpture museum in Lizio - so magical we spent hours there and the parc de prehistoire ar Malsanac which showed life size dinosaurs and then showed scenes through to moder human in an old slate quarry setting. So many others things to mention its sufficient to say we had a great time. Thank you so much for a relaxing and wonderful holiday. I am sure we will be back again ☺
Really enjoyed our stay here .
lovely village , lots of places to visit which are not too far to drive to.
The owners were very welcoming and helpful.
We took up the offer of a home cooked meal on arrival which was very good, and most welcome after a long journey.
The cottage had everything in it we required .
Outside is a patio table reclining chairs and barbeque .
The new heated outdoor pool was an added bonus as was the use of the bikes and the rowing boat.
There are a couple of nice restaurants within walking distance, and plenty of places to walk / cycle along the river .
All in all very enjoyable and thoroughly recommended.
The cottage is set in a beautiful village with a lovely river running through it. Lovely for walking, cycling and kayaking. The owners are very friendly and helpful and it is situated in a good position to visit towns and sites.
Thanks you for a nice stay.
This small two bedroom house is located in lovely St Nicolas-des-Eaux, right in the middle of the Breton countryside. It is about 12 km from Pontivy and ca 50 car minutes from some excellent beaches, i.e. Carnac, Erdeven, Guidel plage etc. St Nicolas lies on the river Blavet which invites visitors to paddle, kanoe, walk, cycle or even take a dip. Its banks are lined with beautiful trees and meadows and it is ideal for picnics or a leisurely stroll past the interesting locks. Every summer avantgarde artists display their latest works in the numerous chapels, which might be of some interest to art lovers.
We used to come to this area when our children were growing up and they enjoyed the absolute freedom to roam around the fields and the river with their French friends.
After a long break we decided to return to this peaceful corner of the world but this time it was just the two of us. We decided to rent a property and. our choice turned out to be excellent. The owners, Patricia and Michael Hunt, were most welcoming and helpful and can provide 'newcomers' with countless suggestions as to what to visit, where to eat etc etc.
The house itself is very cosy and extremely well stocked with all necessities in kitchen and bathroom. It even has a walk-in-wardrobe and a utility area!
The garden is large and benefits from a plunge pool, loungers, two coal barbecues and a big cherry tree giving shade.
The adjacent property belongs to Michael and Patricia too. Both houses are separated by a fence which opens up at the back of the gardens to allow a share of the pool. This would make it an ideal holiday spot for two befriended or one large family. The only suggestion for improvement would be to install some kind of cooling unit or air-conditioning in the bedrooms as they tend to become very hot.
Special interest holidays:
The River Blavet attracts anglers and has fishing competitions, we can supply some fishing equipment to those who are interested, a fortnightly permit has to be obtained be obtained but this is very reasonably priced. There are also several fishing lakes locally and we can arrange for visits to these.
The area is well known for being of interest to artists and photographers because of the stunning scenery, your hostess is very interested in watercolour and can advise on where to get art materials and good subjects for drawing and painting locally, she would be happy to help or advise where she can. There are many interesting walks in the immediate area especially along the river which is only 100 yards away. Cycling is enjoyed by many people and we can provide bicycles free of charge for those who wish to take advantage of this. Canoes can be made available. Horse riding, Go carting and Archery is available very close by.
There are good local markets fairly close by, the best are in Vannes, Locmine, Hennebont, Carnac and Auray to name a few.
The nearest seaside destination of Port Louis with its fine sandy beaches about a 35 minute drive. The popular beaches of Carnac, Quiberon and the Gulf de Morbihan are about a 45 minute drive. Lac Guerledan is 25 minutes drive and has beaches and watersports as well as stunning scenery. Many excellent seafood restaurants can be found in this area. There is the Parc Accrobranche Adventure Forest in Camor which is about 12 kms from the cottages which offers exciting activities for the family. www.camors-adventure-forest.com. There is the Kart Centre in Plumeliau only 3kms away which will surely appeal to Dad's and teens. Poul-Fetan is close by and is about 20 minutes drive away, this is a restored 19 century village with many examples of the lives of Breton people in times gone by in which all the family can participate. We are close to many interesting sites including the magnificent standing stone of Carnac. Come and experience the history and beauty of our area or just relax.
