About the property

Ca de Muito - Idyllic setting for relaxing family holiday or romantic getaway. Mercatale village 6km no white road. Excellent value.

Situated on a hillside on the Tuscan side of the Niccone Valley, Ca de Muito has a delightful location with breath-taking views and yet quick and easy access to the Niccone Valley and the village of Mercatale di Cortona where there are shops, cafes, gelaterias and a great trattoria. It is ideally placed for seeing Umbria and Southern Tuscany whilst enjoying the peace and beauty of the countryside. The garden is really pretty, well-maintained with flowering shrubs and trees and really fantastic views over Sorbello and Reschio castles, the lush and beautiful Niccone Valley to the mountains beyond. The pool area is paved and has large umbrellas and sun loungers and deck-chairs, there is a changing room at the far end. The house is on three floors and retains the the charms of the traditional country cottage while having modern comforts including free wifi internet. There are several outside dining areas with a covered area directly outside the kitchen. The master bedroom and the sitting room both have generous balconies enjoying the lovely views. The 2nd bedroom has 2 single beds and bunk beds. The bathroom has shower only. The ground floor has outside doors to the kitchen and living/dining room. On this floor are the kitchen with dishwasher, oven, hob and fridge-freezer and a dining room/living-room. There is a wooden staircase to the next floor with a comfortable sitting room with sofas, chairs and a Smart TV, the double bedroom, which has a door onto a balcony with steps down to the garden and the shower-room bathroom. A steep flight of wooden stairs from the sitting room leads to the attic bedroom (note there is no door to this bedroom). There are 2 single beds here (can be made up as a double) and a set of bunk beds. The house is attached at the rear to another house used sometimes as a holiday home, the house and its garden are not visible from the house or garden of Ca de Muito which because of the hillside position is on a terrace above. The garden and pool area are entirely private and not over-looked. Free wifi .

Ca de Muito is rented exclusively by Gorgacce Rentals: renting houses since 1993.

About Martin and Emma Daykin

I am the booking agent for the house, my name is Emma and I live nearby in the Niccone Valley, with my husband, Martin, two daughters and our cat and dog. We run a small rentals agency called Gorgacce Rentals, named after the first house my parents owned here which they bought in the 1980's. In those days before the internet they were very successful at renting their house to holiday-makers and their neighbours asked if they could rent their houses too and from this grew our rentals agency. Seeking a better life Martin and I (with our then one year old daughter, Isabel,) moved here in 1999 and have taken over most of the running of the rental business although my mum still keeps the accounts!

Why Martin and Emma Daykin chose Umbertide

This house is an absolute gem. Fantastic views, lots of places to sit out, in the sun or the shade. A simple yet perfect house.

As booking agents who live nearby we want all our guests to enjoy their stay at Ca de Muito. You can book knowing that we are on hand to deal with problems that may arise during your stay, we are always available by phone, text, WhatsApp and by email.

What makes this villa unique

We invite all our guests to a wine tasting evening at the local vineyard. This is a regular event run by by husband Martin Daykin who passed his Italian Sommeliers Association exams in January 2016.

Enjoyed by all the family

  • 5 of 5

The house has a rustic charm and is very comfortable. The garden and views are just wonderful and well looked after. The kids were thrilled to find the wifi was faster than we have at home in the UK! Everything we hoped for and more.

Beautiful rustic farmhouse in a stunning setting

  • 4 of 5

My husband, my three girls (10,10,9) and I had a lovely two weeks here. The house is in a stunning setting and if you're happy to sit back and relax, watching lizards and bats, this is the place for you. The kitchen slightly lets the house down which is why I've only given it four stars but everything else is great. The house is a lovely traditional house and the garden is beautiful, carefully maintained by the friendly gardener, the views from everywhere can't be beaten and there's plenty of trees for shade. There's another house attached to the back of your building so very occasionally you can hear another family talking quietly but that didn't bother us at all. There are numerous places to eat, including a lovely covered terrace (underneath the main bedroom balcony), which we used on our second to last day to watch the impressive electrical storm - other than day that we'd had blue skies and sunshine. The local village is a lovely friendly place with everything you need (bakers, butchers, couple of cafes) and a restaurant. We would definitely stay here again - there are plenty of gorgeous places nearby well worth a visit.

Authentically Tuscan. all one could want from an Italian holiday: amazing views over olives and vineyards and castles and stone houses. The house is comfortable. I would recommend for families or friends.

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

Ca de Muito afforded us seven perfect days in Umbria/Tuscany that we will never forget. The pictures are so accurate that it might be difficult to believe that such a place in fact exists. But it does. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. (I am married to a well-respected landscape contractor.) Rosemary and lavender hedges beautifully scroll toward an exquisite pool, and stone work patios abound for outside dining and drinking in the essence of the most beautiful countryside imaginable. (We did a number of day trips that were glorious but never compared.) The house is perfectly appointed. The only exception is in fact a plus: The master bedroom is billed as having a double bed, but this is actually a queen (which would have been a possible deal breaker for two tall Americans, the female of whom was prepared to sleep on the upper floor just to get the house). Martin's wine tasting at a restaurant in Umbertide is not to be missed. From vine to cask to table, the evening was perfect in every way. If you did no other tasting in the region than this one, you would have experienced the best. We are just beginning our next life chapter of traveling and are working to be discerning when it comes to commitments in soon-to-be-experienced cultures, and we are more than proud that we nailed it from the start with Ca de Muito.

This is the Garden of Eden.

  • 5 of 5

Ca de Muito is the essence of perfection in the Umbrian countryside. The property is graced with hedges of rosemary and lavender that gently carve their way to a beautiful pool and surrounding slopes of natural wonder. The house is charming: well appointed with all necessaries, clean, and graced with lovely surprises, such as the stone basin under the upstairs window and balcony off the bedroom. The pictures are accurate. And because they are, I knew that it would be a tough home base to leave for day outings. I was right. The grounds remained unsurpassed in their beauty for all the day tripping that we did. As for accuracy in its description, all matched the promise, except that the bed in the master bedroom is in fact queen size. Billed as a double, this was almost a deal breaker for our tallness, but I was prepared to take the upper berth to be able to stay in the house. Martin and Emma are consummate professionals, immediately responsive to ensuring that our stay went without a hitch. And, if you take in no other wine tasting other than Martin's at a vineyard down the road, you will have experienced the best. From field study of the vines to a visit in the cellar, replete with one of the best dinners we've ever had, this evening was the mindblowing piece de resistance of our perfect stay.
