Casa das Laranjeiras (Orange Trees) is a modern 3-bedroom villa situated in a quiet development with views to open heathland. It has 2 first floor bedrooms, a double and a twin, each with en suite bath/shower and spacious balcony. On the ground floor is a twin bedroom and a shower room and an open plan living area including kitchen, with plenty of room for 9 people. The villa is cleverly designed and makes excellent use of all available space. Bedrooms have plenty of storage. Patio doors from the living room and the ground floor bedroom lead into the garden which has a terrace, pool, garden furniture and orange trees. The pool that can have the water heated, has an additional cost of € 75.00 / weekly, to hire this service.
You have to go down steps to get to the front door and there are stairs inside the villa which are not suitable for wheelchair users or those who find stairs difficult. For others we hope you will enjoy staying here and exploring the Silver Coast which is not yet well known, and will decide to come back to Casa das Laranjeiras for many years to come.
Casa das Laranjeiras, which has a couple of orange trees in the garden, is a few minutes walk from the shore of the Obidos Lagoon, good for children with its beaches and calm shallow water. There is a water sports centre on the far side of the lagoon where you can windsurf, kayak, or sail.
The centre offers sailing instruction. Walk 5 min to the lagoon, call, and they will collect you. A short drive will take you to the Atlantic coast with miles of beautiful beaches and the best surfing at Baleal and Peniche.
Top class golf courses are at Bom Succeso (5 min drive); Praia D'el Rey (15 mins) and Campo Real (30 min).
There is a walkway round the shore of the lagoon which is ideal for a gentle stroll, a brisk walk or jog, or a cycle ride, or for a spot of fishing or bird watching.
There are several different restaurants within 5-10 minutes drive and others at Bom Successo which is not far away. More information is in a folder in the house.
Obidos, about 20 minutes drive, is a fascinating walled and fortified medieval town which is well worth a visit - a magnificent castle, lovely winding old streets, fascinating shops and a great choice of cafes, bars and restaurants. There is a Pingo Doce supermarket on the outskirts.
Porto Sao Martinho is a delightful resort town which has been a favourite holiday destination for the well-to-do from Lisbon for over 100 years. It has a very pretty scollop-shaped bay, long sandy beach, plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants, and an Intermarche supermarket.which is well signposted.
For military history enthusiasts the Lines of Torres Vedras are about 30-40 minutes drive away. Here in 1809-10 the Duke of Wellington defended Lisbon from the armies of the French Emperor Napolean; but bring your own maps and guide book.
There are restaurants and cafes between the villa and the entrance to the lagoon, about 5 mins drive. Rio Cortico overlooks the mouth of the Lagoon and is recommended.
These are nearest. There are several restaurants at Bom Succeso including one on the beach.. Across the Lagoon are interesting bars and cafes at Foz do Arelho.
Peniche is a fishing village and has delightful fish restaurants.
A nature reserve borders on part of the Lagoon, and you can sometimes see interesting birds there. The islands of Belanga, a boat ride from Peniche, are a haven for birds, as is the Swamp of Tornado, near Caldas da Rainha.
