Cottage in East Prawle, Nr. Salcombe, South Devon, England - Direct Access To Coast Path With Many Coves And Sandy Beaches A Short Walk

A terraced house in a row of ten that were built in 1904 for the coastguards and their families - the lookout is still in use a few minutes walk from the house. The cottage is warm and comfortable with room to spread out, has a lovely garden and glorious sea views. Thrilling on a stormy night and with its naturally dark skies, the perfect spot for stargazing when it's clear. A great space for families, friends and couples. Whether you like walking, birdwatching, a bucket and spade holiday, swimming or just relaxing this is a place to escape to - you really feel as if you're on the edge of the world!

Why M Bolton chose South Hams

We have holidayed for many years in the village, staying in holiday cottages and on the camping field. We love it so much that when the opportunity came up to buy a house, we had to go for it! There is something about this particular area that is very inspiring - it's slightly remote but not too remote, it's quirky and extremely beautiful plus the pub is the best in the world!

We stayed in the cottage over New Year. The location is amazing, metres from the coast path and with a view out to sea from all three floors. Fantastic walks straight from the door, great pub in the village and the cottage is equipped with everything you need - plus the massive cosy bonus of not one but two log fires and electric blankets. Absolutely Beautiful!

Although getting to the property was a bit hair-raising (only for me that is!) navigating the small Devonshire country lanes (hubby drove and did brilliantly 😊), on arrival we were blown away by the stunning views and fell in love with the area immediately. Then we entered the cottage...

Wow! What a beautiful cottage it is. Much bigger than we had expected, which was a lovely bonus with three of our children in tow. Excellently equipped, I can't think of anything that was missing at all. Pete and I commandeered the loft bedroom - much to the annoyance of our 11 year old son (as if we were going to sleep in bunk beds, I ask you...!). We thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the window seat looking out to see each morning and evening.

Beds were all very comfortable, and no skimping on the quality of everything in the cottage was to be found. Not he area is just perfect for walkers and beach worshippers alike. We drove to Dartmouth, Bantham, Bigbury/Burgh Island (my personal favourite place) and Salcombe during the time we were there. An added bonus for us this year was that the sun shine all week :-)

We can highly recommend this cottage and the area. I can't say enough about it without it sounding gushy so book it for yourselves and enjoy.

We will definitely return so thank you again Mark and Sarah, we are so glad we found you.

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

There are some pretty, rocky coves within sight of the house. Follow the coast path in either direction for 15 minutes walk to sandy beaches. Macely's which is a bit of a climb down is very beautiful with white sand, turquoise sea - you could be in the Med! Gara Rock is 35 mins walk or 10 mins drive and is also wonderful with a great restaurant/café at the top for a well deserved lunch or sundowner.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Exeter about an hour away. A car is recommended although not essential. Trains go to Totnes, 40 mins away and a taxi to the house costs about £40.

Distances:

East Prawle village is one mile away and has an amazing pub, the Pig's Nose Inn where bands occasionally play and a true atmosphere of English eccentricity prevails. They serve food too. There's also a shop and café on the pretty village green - these open from Easter to the end of October. Smart, yachty Salcombe is 10 minutes drive plus a five minute ferry across the estuary and is a great place to people watch and spend all your money. Kingsbridge, 15 min drive, has shops and supermarkets

Further Details:

Waitrose deliver as do Riverford Organics. Britannia @ The Beach at nearby Beesands has amazing fresh fish and will also deliver. The seasonal shop on the village green has lots of weird and wonderful items plus useful basics, so if you've forgotten to bring snuff or a pith helmet, you know where to go!

Salcombe is the place to visit for sailing and boat hire including power boats. Also daily yacht charters. You can book your children on to sailing courses too. Birdwatchers will enjoy spotting the Cirl Buntings which are quite particular to this part of the world

25% deposit payable on booking with the remainder due around six weeks before the holiday. We also ask for a £400 cheque against damages which will either by torn up or returned after your stay as long as all is in good order.

Notes on accommodation: We may allow one small, well-behaved dog plus basket and bowls but not more and definitely not large dogs as the space really isn't suitable at all. They are absolutely not allowed upstairs or on the furniture. They must also be up to date with their flea treatment and not moulting! They must not use the garden as a loo. Please enquire when booking. Dogs are £25 extra and we reserve the right to keep some of the deposit if any of these rules are breached. Sorry for the hard line but there is history on this regarding a previous apparently 'well-behaved' canine guest!! There is no mobile reception but we do have a phone for guests. Evening and weekend calls to landlines are free but we do ask for a contribution towards calls to mobiles etc - more details on booking. Outside: There's a lovely, terraced garden with a gate onto the coast path and grassy field which is usually full of friendly sheep. A patio area at the top has a dining table, chairs and barbecue. We also have a portable BBQ in case you fancy dining or breakfasting on the beach! There's a good sized shed at the back of the house for storing your beach equipment, surf boards, inflatables etc. Utility Room: Washing machine and freezer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Egyptian cotton towels and bed linen are included as is the cleaning. We do ask guests to bring their own swimming and beach towels.
