About Gill & Geoff Barton

Gill and Geoff Barton are the new owners of Rough Close House and Coppice.

Having recently retired, we are excited to be able to live in the heart of the Lake District in a beautiful location. We have worked in the area for over 30 years and have a background in sport and outdoor pursuits, so we know how to enjoy it and where to go, even pubs and coffee shops!

Gill & Geoff Barton purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Gill & Geoff Barton chose Ambleside

Knowing the Lake District very well we looked over the whole of the area before choosing Rough Close because of it's fantastic setting between Grizedale forest and Esthwaite Water. It is a beautiful location in any weather and at any time of year.

What makes this cottage unique

It is quiet and picturesque, yet very close Hawkshead and central to some of the Lake Districts' finest and most famous visitor attractions. The Coppice has been luxuriously updated and will certainly help you to make the best of your stay in the Lake District.

Just lovely

We had a wonderful week here and even managed to stay dry all week. The cottage was perfect for our needs, a lovely tranquil spot, well equipped, walks on the doorstep and the comfiest bed after a long day walking. It really is a fabulous place to stay and we are already looking at when we can book again. The welcome basket and chocolate brownie treats were great too, thank you!

Oustanding property in all respects

  • 5 of 5

This is without doubt the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in. The warm welcome we received made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The quality of the accommodation made it a 'home from home' for the entire week. We have enjoyed better weather in previous trips to the Lakes but we have never had such outstanding accommodation. We simply cannot recommend it highly enough.

A home from home - Just wonderful.

Another fantastic week at the Coppice.

What can we say that hasn't been said before - we could mention the wonderful hosts, the spotlessly clean, toasty cottage, the location, the views, the great walks from the door, the list is endless, but don't take our word for it, try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you Gill and Geoff X
