|Property type||guest house|
This newly renovated manoir is just 3 minutes outside of the historic village of Sainte Marie du Mont, one of the first villages liberated on D-day. The house boasts a turret and beautifully laid out gardens. Its peaceful location in the middle of the 101st Airborne drop-zone will provide a great central point from which to explore the region. Utah Beach with the Landing Museum and Sainte Mere Eglise with the Airborne Museum are just 10 minutes from the house and Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach cemetery and Bayeux are a half an hour drive. Mont Saint Michel can be reached in an hour. Situated between the ferry ports of Caen and Cherbourg and 10 minutes from the railway station of Carentan, La Princerie is easily reachable.
Your host, Ivor, a retired engineer, will make your stay a memorable one. Very knowledgeable about the region, he will gladly help you plan your day trips and reserve local restaurants for you.
Gerald Town purchased this guest house in 2006
I fell in love with this region almost immediately and decided to spend time enjoying the bucolic lifestyle this region has to offer. My interest for the D-Day landings added to the attraction, but the beautiful unspoiled country side with its famous hedgerows and its hundreds of miles of stunning coastline made this region a very attractive option to live.
The manoir is very conveniently located in the heart of the Cotentin Peninsula. It will make a perfect starting point to explore the many attractions of this region.
An excellent place, can not recommend highly enough. Ivor was a welcoming and helpful host, very happy to do all he could to help us, and to supply an excellent breakfast of our choice! The property itself is lovely and very well thought out - comfortable, homely and smart, spacious and airy. Having the fridge and microwave was a big plus. And as for the swim spa.....luxury! The location is good - plenty to see and do in the area, but also so near to Cherbourg that it would be ideal either for a short break or a stop-over. Thanks Ivor!

This is the most amazing place to stay; comfortable, quiet and relaxing. Ivor, the host, is the most amiable person one could meet, a great character and cooks an excellent breakfast! The location is very close to Saint Marie du Mont and Braecourt Manor, and for WW2 fans is right in the heart of all things interesting. I cannot give a higher recommendation, and would strongly recommend. We toured Utah beach, Saint Mere Eglise, Azeville, Crisbecq and Maisy Batteries (The latter we found the most amazing, as it remains an archaeological dig in Grandcamp Maisy), as well as Chateaux Bernaville. What a wonderful time!!!
Ivor was the perfect host, in a beautiful home set in in a great location. Placed a short distance from the lovely village of Sainte Marie Du-Mont. You will not find a better place to base a holiday or short break, would happily recommend La Princere, we both look forward to returning in the near future, try you will not be disapionted.
Special interest holidays:
This area is famous for the D-day landing beaches. Sainte Marie du Mont was amongst one of the first villages liberated on D-Day. The house is situated just 3 minutes from the town centre where you will be able to visit one of the most impressive churches in the area. The German invaders used the high steeple gallery as a look-out post as the church dominates the surrounding country side. Utah Beach and the famous town of Sainte Mere Eglise are just 10 minutes drive from the house. Both Utah Beach and Sainte Mere Eglise boast impressive museums, the Invasion Museum and the Airborne Museum. This is the heart of the infamous "hedgerow" country that made the battle on D-day so difficult. You will see many of these lanes still today. Next to the house is the famous "Brecourt Manor" as depicted by the series "Band of Brothers" in the second episode.
Utah Beach, besides being the location of the D-day invasion, is also a lovely holiday beach, for swimming and walking. The beaches in the west coast of the peninsula like Barneville-Carteret are renowned for their beauty, fine white sand and crystal clear water.
Nearest airport: Carpiquet Caen 79 km, Nearest railway: Carentan 12 km. Nearest ferry ports: Caen 90 km, Cherbourg 45 km. Car is essential.
Sainte Marie du Mont 3 km, Utah Beach 6 km, Sainte Mere Eglise 8 km, Bayeux 50 km, Mont saint Michel 130 km, Omaha Beach cemetery 43 km.
There are many lovely restaurants nearby that we will gladly recommend. Most towns have a weekly open air market. Horse back riding and golf, cycling and walking are all well organized with good information at the local tourist office providing guides.
